About Michon Schmidt
We are a family of four who live in Denver, Colorado. When the kids are not participating in soccer, baseball or other activities, we spend as much time as we can together in the outdoors.
Michon Schmidt purchased this House in 2014
Why Michon Schmidt chose Winter Park Highlands
We chose Grand County because of its proximity to Denver. Less than a 90-minute drive and no Eisenhower Tunnel. The house is on a peaceful, tree-filled-two acre lot, with lots of sunshine. It's a great place to relax. We’re centrally located and close to downhill skiing at Winter Park and Ski Granby Ranch, cross country skiing at Devil’s Thumb and Snow Mountain Ranch, mountain biking and hiking up and down the Fraser Valley, fishing and boating at Lake Granby and soaking at Hot Sulphur Springs.
What makes this House unique
We love the sun shine that streams in through living room windows, and enjoying the star-filled sky from the hot tub. The house has a downstairs that is perfect for kids to hang out and have their own space, while the adults can relax in the upstairs. It works great for two families.

Lovely house close to Snow Mountain Ranch which was the destination of the event we attended.

Amazing hosts and house
Great spacious and semi secluded house! Fantastic amenities and the hosts were very responsive and helpful. 10/10 would stay again
The property is very nice, lots of space, well equipped kitchen. Nice deck to hang out on. Neighborhood was pretty quiet, which was exactly what we were looking for over the 4th of July...no illegal fireworks boomers (well, there were 2 or 3, nothing like the insanity in Denver)
A few comments.. the stairs on path to entrance are not pet friendly, one of our dogs got its paw stuck in a gap, luckily I was was able to get it out with only minor scrape, no broken bone. The deck needs cleaning (bird poop built up) and the cold air returns in the bedrooms need dust build up removed. One of the burners on the stove did not work. If not for these things I would give 5 stars.
Are family really enjoyed the stay! Property was not hard to find at all and was secluded enough for us city slickers. We were a short drive to Fraser and 45 mins to Grand Lake. We really enjoyed the Monarch Lake Trail! Look it up!! Home was clean and fully stocked with cooking utensils and laundry soap. More than enough towels and the hot tub was amazing! The only downside for us was that pets were allowed in this rental. So we could pick up on the smell of pets. We didn’t mind much and our children with allergies did fine. We would definitely rent this home again!
Wonderful mountain getaway
We had a wonderful long-weekend stay in this home. Thank you Amy and Scott for being great and very attentive hosts. The space is perfect for 2 families- room for adults upstairs to hang out and enjoy beautiful views AND room for the kids to hang out in the family room downstairs. The property was peaceful and very beautiful. We were able to enjoy a wonderful snow and the kids loved playing/sledding right on the property. It was an easy drive to the Winter Park for a day of great skiing. Roads were clear and easily accessible, even with the snow. The home is very well appointed and had everything we needed. We will definitely be coming back!
The house was exactly as it was described, which always makes me happy.
The house was clean and cozy for our family. We loved the two family room spaces, which allowed the kids an area to play while we relaxed after a day of skiing.
I will say that if we go back I will certainly rent an SUV. There is no way the minivan would have made it up the hill to the house if we’d gotten more than an inch of snow.
