I grew up in this area and my husband spent his high school years on his Grandmother's property in up state New York.
Tim and Carolyn Godfrey purchased this cabin in 1998
When we saw this property we fell in love with it. I grew up in this area and all the woods and river reminded my husband of his Grandmother's place in New York
When we first viewed this property it was all grown up with brush, trees, no road, electricity, water, etc. but we knew it had great potential. After a lot of hard work and Gods blessings we have a beautiful home and a couple cabins to share with others. It's so beautiful here and private a great place to get away from every thing and enjoy the quiet and beauty of the woods and river.
Carolyn was able to fit us in on a weekday visit after Christmas but before New Years and she responded back very quickly to our questions and request. The owners gave very good directions and the place was easy to find even though it is off the beaten path (just the way we like it). We really appreciate the owners (who live on site) giving us privacy so we could enjoy our couple time together.
The property has a lot of nice well thought out touches by the owners. For instance, a pull wagon to take your items to the cabin from the drive up the well maintained path; the side table next to the grill so you can prep your meals; a large fire ring with lots of seating and a well supplied kitchen. Especially liked the deck size and the glider furniture on the deck and if it hadn't been so chilly we would have done a fire too.
The Queen bed was very comfy and the linens very fresh and clean. The entire cabin was very clean which really is hard to do when the country means leaves, dirt and bugs. The interior of the cabin is very large and roomy so if you plan on sleeping 4, I think that would be easy to do. The heater worked well and was relatively quiet.
The path down to the water view is a bit steep but is well maintained. Anyone in reasonable health should be able to make it down there to the viewing platform which gives a great view of the river. We heard the owls hooting on the other side and the place is overall very peaceful and quiet.
BTW be sure to pack groceries, especially good stuff for their gas grill! The kitchen is well stocked with equipment but you will need actual food especially if you don't want to go back into town. However, pots, pans, silverware, glassware and even marshmallow toasting forks are provided!
Grand Lake is near by. Miami has some antiquing and the Casino. We personally headed up to Joplin (about 30 minutes away) to go antiquing and spend the day. It would be a good stopover if you are headed further up to Springfield MO or down to Tulsa OK.
My wife and our 2 kids had a wonderful time. They loved the trails and water view. Great get away location if you want to enjoy the outdoors. We'll defiantly be back
We were in the area for my niece's wedding. I am originally from Fairland but have lived in Texas for many years. It was so nice to be able to give my kids a taste of fall. Thanks!
We were in Miami Ok. to enjoy a movie at the famous Coleman theatre and chose this little cabin to stay in for a few days.
Shortly after our arrival, the Godfrey's stopped by to greet us. We were warmly welcomed and made to feel at ease concerning all accommodation concerns.
The view of the "Spring River" was expansive and we enjoyed many individual experiences there...including a whitetail buck swimming across the river in close proximity, pelicans and other wildlife presenting themselves often for a personal viewing, and in the morning as the sun broke over the tree line, the
fish sounded like popcorn popping in relation to the number and frequency of their jumping...lovely time.
We spent nearly a whole day in nearby Commerce Ok at the antique mall and enjoyed lunch (and a local history lesson) at the "Dairy King" at the end of the main street there. (their "Route 66 cookies" are shipped all over the map...so they say).
We continue to enjoy the Amish butter and hand picked produce from a local store nearby! I should have picked up more homemade bread and rolls for the freezer!
Simply and surely..our kind of place!
We'll be back!
Thanks for having us!
My family stayed here over the holiday weekend this month. From the moment we arrived at the property it was obvious this was going to be the escape we were looking for! The cabin was incredibly well cared for and many of the items were clearly made by the Godfrey's. They live just down the road and welcomed us to their firewood and fishing poles. I have two boys (7 and 18 months) and it was perfect for my older guy to go on down to the bank to fish and myself and little guy could watch from the overhanging fishing deck (which Mr. Godfrey built!). My boy caught two fish! We absolutely could not have asked for more from this getaway but among my favorites were the fire pit, the handmade red wagon, the gas grill and the peace and quiet (besides my boys sometimes haha).
We can't wait to book again!
My daughter and I spent a weekend at Cabin #2 and with all certainty attest I can attest that you will find no stone unturned when it comes to these cabins. You will find peace, quiet, and solitude along with beautiful views, the sounds of a rustling river, nature unfolding, and the rise and fall of the sun unlike anything you'd experience during a typical day in the city. What completes the scenario is you will want and need for nothing that isn't already provided. The thought and care that has gone into setting up these cabins is no less than going home to visit your childhood home. Everything is where you'd expect and you spend zero time searching for or needing anything. As an example I can tell you I left home with a backpack of clothes, a tooth brush, and a hairbrush... and I wanted for nothing from the kitchen to the bathroom they covered it all. (I never even used the hairbrush, ha!) Barely had to pack. I appreciated the attention to detail in each of the items placed to create a home away from home experience. Kitchen is stocked from glassware to casserole dishes. Bathroom towels are whiter than snow and the shower was so hot I didn't want to get out. The beds... Oh my goodness those were every bit worth the day we extended. The living area... Rocking chairs and a ceiling fan... Amen to that right there. If I got tired of rocking indoors I went to rock out on the deck. I admit to falling asleep on the deck twice. I didnt get a chance to use the firepit mostly because the livingroom rocking chair deduced me to a vegetative state...but it's an awesome set up. The walking paths are nice and well prepped if you're willing to leave the aforementioned rocking chair, :) Did make it down to the fishing area. There's a decent level of difficulty getting down there and back up but it's really a beautiful and well thought out area. We even had a weenie dog visit which made it easier being away from our own dogs. The cabins are wonderful, the Godfreys will treat you like family, and you will not want to leave. When it's time to depart I highly recommend doing it before the sun comes up and before your completely awake... Or you'll keep extending, haha. Thank you Mr. & Mrs. Godfrey. We made memories that will last a lifetime.
Our cabins is located on 4+ wooded acres with Spring River running along the west side of our property with and excellent view of the river and a covered sitting deck on the river's edge where you can fish or just enjoy the view. It's 1/2 mile off a paved road so very accessible and within 5 miles to a casino, convenient store, golf course. We are 8 miles to a fitness center, 9 miles to a grocery store, churches, shopping, 26 minutes to horseback riding.
