Recently renovated traditional village house offering authentic relaxing rural Spain experience.

Bedrooms 3
Space 1,614 sq. ft.
Property type cottage
Minimum Stay 1 - 5 nights

About the property

This recently renovated traditional village house has a light and natural feel throughout. Located in an unspoilt valley with wonderful views to the sea.

Only a short 15 mins drive inland away from the hustle and bustle of the Costa Del Sol, and 25 mins from historic Malaga city, lies the sleepy, untouched hamlet of Benaque where the road ends. Set in a picturesque valley amongst olive, almond and mango trees, ‘La Forastera’ is a lovingly renovated traditional rural house located on the dramatic ridge of a hill on the outskirts of the hamlet, and is the perfect place for a relaxing, authentic Spanish holiday surrounded by stunning countryside.

The house has beautiful uninterrupted views of the sea in the distance in front and of a dramatic uninhabited valley behind. The property has a very light and warm natural feel with terracotta tiles, exposed stone walls, traditional oiled wooden doors and shutters and hand made decorative tiles used tastefully throughout. Two private terraces and a garden provide ample opportunity to enjoy the sun and views, or go inside to the open plan living/dining room and relax in front of the wood burning fire on a chilly winter evening.

The nearest beach, Benajarafe is only 15 mins away and is very quiet with many beach restaurants.

We welcome 1 pet, 60 euros. In stays of 28 days or longer, guest pay electricity, gas and wood. In the summer there can be ants, really only a few, if any, please do not leave food around, or dirty dishes, and close packets well, then ants will not come to get food.

House is really roughing it!

  • 2 of 5

We rented this house to try something rustic, it was in a very small area that not many people knew where to find it. The house itself is really cute, the rooms are small and stuffy with exception to the master bedroom. The linens are awful and the accommodations by the owner were minimal. If you're looking for a very rustic feel living up in the country this is the place for you! When we had to leave the property early due to a complete infestation of fire ants the owner told us "this is typical of southern spain this time of year". The responsibility was washed off and we were left on our own to deal to with it. The windows have no screens and there is no real air ventilation so sleeping with the windows open and getting bite by bugs all night is your best option. I know he has received good reviews but I have to question who has been writing these reviews. If I was camping up north in Canada I would have been better off. I'm sorry to write such a terrible review but I wish I would have read about all of this before we booked so I knew what to expect.

Owner's Response: Anyone reading the review above should know that there is another story behind this horrendous review! Please ignore this review! As you will see from other reviews of our property, none of these other ‘problems’ that this couple talk about have even been mentioned! The truth is that originally this couple were coming on holiday with their children and they were all going to stay in our house together. For whatever reason their kids couldn’t come but the couple decided to come anyway, even after we offered them the option to cancel their booking if necessary. They obviously decided that the property wasn’t for them once they were there by themselves and decided to leave 4 days earlier than they were booked in till. They then came up with this ‘ant infestation' story after they had left, only informing us of a problem once they had gone (so we had no chance to resolve their ‘ant infestation’ problem - if there was one) and wanted us to refund them their money. They actually threatened that they would write us a bad review if we didn’t refund them the 4 nights that they had cut their stay short - and here it is above! We wish we could add the photo here of the ‘infestation’ of ants they sent that they claimed had scared them off - around 10 tiny ants around a knife with peanut butter on it! Really sad and pathetic. Yes, in the summer, in the countryside, in the south of Spain you should expect to see SOME ants, but certainly not an ‘infestation.’We take our responsibilities as hosts very seriously (as hopefully our OTHER reviews show) and try to provide the best comfort for our guests. This couple should be avoided like the plague - please disregard their nasty review!

"What a wonderful house, ...

"What a wonderful house, with the most perfect surroundings! If you want a quiet, restful holiday in the 'real Spain' (but with the beach within a short drive's distance) this is the place for you. I cannot recommend this house highly enough. For a couple, or a family, it is very well equipped and perfectly situated for sunny morning breakfasts, and cool evening meals out on the terrace. Perfecto!"

"Great house, great surro...

  • 5 of 5

"Great house, great surrounding, very helpfull and positive owner. House is located in beautifull and very calm, peacefull rural and mountain area. Drive to the beaches is quick and we could reach busy turist destinations in 15 minutes. There is also plenty to see around. Generally it was very comfortale to stay in the house when outside was 36 degrees Celsius. House has great circulation of air. It has also terraces at the front and at the back so we could eat and drink in the shadow. House has its own atmosphere which we liked very much. We will be back:-)"

I strongly advise for the ones who find peace and relax!

Gemütliche Unterkunft in ruhiger Lage

  • 4 of 5

Fly to Malaga Airport - 'La Forastera' is only 35 mins drive away.

Simply drive 25 km drive East along the coast on the motorway towards Málaga and then Motril or Almería (A7), then you come off the motorway (exit 258 )and turn inland towards Macharaviaya. You will drive on a single road for 8 km and you will be in Benaque.

• Detailed directions will be sent upon confirmation of booking.

Benaque has sub tropical temperatures similar to California. The valley itself is famous for it's production of muscatel grapes. Olive, Almond and Mango trees are also grown.

The valley is popular with both hikers and mountain bikers and those seeking tranquility.

Benaque was the birthplace of the poet Salvador Rueda, to whom a small museum is dedicated in the village.

Over the summer months the nearby tranquil outdoor communal swimming pool opens and costs just 1 euro for a full day.

A giant paella is cooked at Benaque's festival, on the first weekend of Sept and an open air stage and bar provide night long local entertainment.

Just 1.5 km away, Macharaviaya is an historically important and picturesque village. The historical center of this village has a preservation order on it. Some Spanish and foreign artists, ceramicists, painters and writers live among the villagers.

The historic city of Malaga is a 25 min drive, with many places of interest including the moorish castle, bullring, Picasso Museum, impressive Cathedral and historic centre.

Just 15 min away is the pretty coastal resort of Rincón de la Victoria with the nearest main shops, banks and supermarkets. Also here is the only cave of sea origin known in Europe (Cueva del Tesoro) whilst the internationally renowned dramatic Nerja caves are just 30 min East and well worth a day out.

A large water park (aquavelis) is a 20 min drive away at Torre del Mar.

The nearest golf course, Añoreta Golf, is just 10 mins away.
