I spent 10 years abroad (Germany, Ireland and specially Uruguay) and I bought this flat when I arrived in Caen. Now, people of all around the world are coming to my flat and I love this way of life!
Marie Faggiano purchased this apartment in 2000
I fell in love with this flat when I came back from south America. I bought it in year 2000 and I occupied it with my family during nearly 10 years. I appreciate so much this area of Caen that I live now in a house 2 minutes away from this flat.
The flat is both original and charming. A nive and spacious living room and kitchen make the flat easy to live. With its 2 separate stairs, it is a kind of doble duplex.
Myself and my husband stayed here with our two kids aged 6 and 3. They absolutely loved the bus bunk beds and having a desk to sit at. It was hard to get them to leave the room! The apartment is in great condition and felt very clean. The layout is strange to begin with as there is no sink near the toilet but we got used to popping up the stairs after. Good for our fitbit steps!
The stairs are fine. There are two sets. Ourselves and our kids had no problem with them at all. The kitchen is well equipped though we only used the microwave and hob. Our kids loved the little mugs with faces on and wanted a different colour each morning!
We got fresh baguette and croissants every morning from the bakers downstairs. Delish!
We used this as a base to explore Caen, Bayeux and Point du Hoc. Marie was great st showing us around her apartment and happI'll spoke French to my husband and English to me. Would recommend this to friends.
This condo head all the amenities and very comfortable beds but the layout was very awkward. One bedroom kitchen and dining room and small toilet we're on the first floor. In addition there was a bunk bedroom on the first floor for children . The second bedroom with a shower and double sink (no toilet)were up one stairway on the second floor and then there was a TV room/living room living room up a different stairway on the second floor . These two second floor rooms were not connected . It would work nicely with a family with 2-4 kids. Awkward for two couples.
The apartment is very spacious and well-appointed with a full-sized (and equipped) kitchen. Although not located near the downtown area, there are many shops in the pedestrian street (baker, grocery, florist, post office, bank). Excellent location for visiting the war memorial museum. Very quiet (except for the early mornings when the bakery trucks arrive, but it isn't too noisy and quite a wonderful smell to wake to). Owner is very responsive and accommodating.
Also, the location is very easy for getting off/on the autoroute (highway). We used it as home base for visiting Mont-St-Michel, Honfleur and the D-Day beaches.
The only downside is it may be a challenge for anyone with mobility issues. The shower is located on the 2nd floor with very steep stairs. I was nervous to carry our 3-month old up & down the stairs for bathtime, but my husband was able to with no problem.
We very much recommend this location for your stay in Caen .
"A lovely apartment - ideal for visiting Normandy. Nice accommodation for a family - we were three adults and 2 kids, plenty of space for everyone. Shops and amenities close by. The owner was extremely polite and helpful throughout our stay. Thank you!"
"Marie is a great host, full of information and advice. She is very warm and friendly, and keeps in contact with you throughout. The accomodation is about 2k out of Caen centre, very clean and tidy and indeed comfortable, for our party of 8 people. We used the accomodation as a base for our 3 day WW2 Beaches trip and it was ideal and centrally located. Overall excellent"
"The owner of this property was extremely helpful and assisted us with some lost property. The rental property was a welcome sight. The only negative with the property was no electric kettle to boil water for a cup of tea. Also the lack of a washing machine to wash clothes was an inconvenience. Overall great home away from home."
Easy to find: between CHU Hospital Caen and Memorial of the second world war.
Follow roadsigns 'Memorial' and 'CHU' when you arrive close to Caen. On the Caen ring, take Exit nb. 6 'Vallée des jardins' or nb. 5 'Chemin vert'. then 'Centre commercial Folie Couvrechef'. Go to the very end of the street and park near the church. Here we are!
I provide a homemade guidepage of restaurants and visits I recommend.
