Molino Malagon stands alone in its own Andalucian valley, very peacefully situated next to its own stretch of river in an acre of secluded and private land with many idyllic walks around the dramatic countryside surrounding the Mill. This 19th century Flour Mill has been lovingly renovated and tastefully furnished in a rustic contemporary style. Many of the original Mill artifacts can be found placed around the house and garden. There is a large (9m x 4m x 1.5m-1.8m) swimming pool for the use of the house guests. There is also a shaded dining and barbecue area pleasantly situated next to the pool. Molino Malagon is very spacious and accommodates up to ten people comfortably. For different sized parties PART RENTAL OPTIONS ARE AVAILABLE.. The two bedroom self-contained option (Casa Rio) sleeps up to four and the larger three bedroom self-contained option (Casa Grande) sleeps up to six. For further information about the various rental options please see our website: www.rural-retreat-spain.iowners.net
Looking for an adventure and searching around Andalucia, we fell in love with a ruinous 19th Century Flourmill in a fabulous location. A few years later and after expending much blood, sweat and tears along the way, the final result is what you see now - our wonderful Molino! We hope you like it as much as we do.
It was the peace and tranquility primarily, that grabbed us and wouldn't let go - such a unique setting with a building oozing so much character - like the face of a typically weathered Spanish farmer (of which there are many in these parts). The River San Juan wraps itself around the land surrounding the Mill and the birds are many and varied - nature personified!
I did not forget Molino Malagon and my kids neither. How could we ?
We spent a very wonderful time last august.
The house (the castle should I Say) is warmly furnished : blankets, seats, tables, old pieces in wood, curtains…
We felt instantly welcome and peaceful.
The light, the wind, the noise of the river close, the birds, the sound of the figs fallen full of sugar… every day shows us something new : a new smell, a new view…
We wanted calm, among our 5 kids (from 10 to 16, 3 girls and 2 boys). It was perfect : girls had a big room to play upstairs, boys had the landscape to climb, the paths and their bridges to jump over (we even saw crayfish in the river)… We discovered all the fruits and almonds, and figs around, and the stars by night...
It was a real pleasure to take care of this beautiful place : water the plants, sweep the terrace as real owners may have done it…
And the swimming pool with natural river water. How could I say the pleasure I had to swim and felt how the freshwater was good for the skin. The pool is at the good place, where we can see a bit of skyline. Everything looks like a style life magazine.
How can I tell you how I Often think about Molino ? When I'm too stressed… I just see myself over there, in the middle of the spanish countryside, in your beautiful house.
The Mill is approximately one hour from Granada Airport and one hour and fifty minutes from Malaga Airport. The nearest village of Sabariego is 1 km (15mins walk) from the Mill along an off-road track. The track is rough, bumpy and narrow in parts but passable by ordinary vehicles. The scenery as you cross from village to Mill is dramatic and well compensates for the bumpy ride. See our website www.rural-retreat-spain.iowners.net for further information on how to find us.
The lively nearby towns of Alcaudete (fifteen minutes), Alcala La Real (twenty five minutes) and Priego de Cordoba (thirty mins) all have historic Medieval castles and plenty of cafes, supermarkets, banks and restaurants etc. The magnificent cultural centres of Granada, Cordoba and the less well know but equally beautiful World Heritage sites of Ubeda and Baeza are within easy reach. The Mill is ideally placed to explore the beautiful, historic and unspoilt Province of Jaen.
