Overview

About the property

6-8 Bedrooms 3-4 bathrooms for 13/17 people 50 m from the sea (150 mt beach)

Surrounded by pines, oleanders, rosemary's and Mediterranean bush, Villa Montecristo sits in the south west coast of the Island, at 50mt from the sea, near the beautiful beaches of Seccheto (3 minutes on foot - it's just 150 mt), Cavoli (5 minutes on foot) Fetovaia (five minutes by car).

Villa Montecristo sits along the main road: this ideal location, so close to the beach and the village nearby, entails that - mostly during peak season - there is car passage especially when people go to and come back from the sea.

Villa Montecristo is an ancient charming Tuscan house with a spectacular sea view overlooking the isles of Montecristo and Pianosa, the bay of Seccheto and the ridge of Fetovaia.

Since 2017 Villa Montecristo offers a unique and stunning pool carved out in a ancient granite quarry, entirely made of stone: its infinity edge makes you feel like you are swimming in the open sea while you are swimming in the pool!

The Villa is lavishly furnished with antiques, paintings and prints; it is characterized by a wide beamed ceiling drawing room with granite stairs and wood gallery. The spacious garden has tree shaded and sunny areas; there is also a thatch covered terrace ideal for eating outside. The rooms have tiled floors and are spacious and furnished with 19th century antiques. Both the living room and the kitchen have doors leading into the garden.

During spring and summer we have two showers in the garden (cold water only) perfect for cooling after a long day on the beach!

The nearest village is Seccheto, to be reached in less than 5 minutes on foot.

About Fiammetta

My name is Fiammetta (on the left in photo), I am 33 years old and I am a lawyer in Genova, Italy.

Since I was a young child I used to spend my summer holidays in our family house in Elba that I love with all my heart. Since 2007 I manage rentings and I try to do all my best to make our guests feel at home at Villa Montecristo and to make them feel as I feel when I go there: relaxed and happy!

My mother, Cristina (on the right in the photo) is the owner of the house: she is a professional paintings restorer and an amateur painter and ceramist. She loves Villa Montecristo as me, and we both really enjoy to go there ofter to make house-keeping works as painting, fixing small things, gardening etc. The Villa is big and ancient, so there's always something to be improved and we never get bored there. For sure we two are the men of the house!

We love cooking (especially at Villa Montecristo, where we have a fully equipped kitchen and lot of time!) and animals, dogs especially, that are always more than welcome (if well educated :)

Fiammetta purchased this villa in 1850

Why Fiammetta chose Campo nell'Elba

Villa Montecristo belongs to my mother's family (the Mellini's, an acient roman nobiliar family) since XVIII century: it is a charming tuscan villa and it is furnished with ancient furniture.

In 1814 Emperor Napoleone Bonaparte spent few nights there, in the double room at the ground floor (that so we call 'Napoleon's room'), and he left two iron camp beds that we converted in two tables in the sitting room. In the whole house you can feel Napoleon, as my great grand father, my grand father were (and my father is) Napoleon's heirlooms collectors.

By the way, even if the house has an ancient history and a glorious past (if only it could speak I am quite sure it would have many things to tell…) it also has a present! The Villa sits about 50 meters from the sea: at just three minutes on foot there is Seccheto’s beach, and Seccheto village (and its shops) is less than five minutes walking; Cavoli’s beach, known as the most beautiful beach on the island, is less than ten minutes on foot, so you can have ready at hand almost everything you need!

The Villa and its garden are big enough for many people, so everyone can find his own quite spot to read a book, to sleep, to work, to have a glass of wine by watching the sunset on the sea in Fetovaia’s bay. But there’s also a terrace area with two long garden tables where we use to have lunch and dinner all together, eating Italian typical meals we cooked in the afternoon with fresh organic food or, why not?, to enjoy a great barbecue!

In 2014 we renovated a garden belt behind the house with a granitic table and a bench for solitary people that want to be alone with theirself to work or to meditate in a peaceful spot.

In July 2017 we made perhaps the biggest improvement ever: a spectacular and unique infinity swimming pool entirely built in the antique Roman granite quarry behind the house, to be published shortly in the major architectural magazines.

What makes this villa unique

A big garden with dining area facing the sea, a unique contemporary infinity pool carved into an ancient Roman granite quarry, the best beaches of the island and the village at walking distance, a 100 squared meters huge sitting room, Napoleon's traces, seventeen beds... What else?! :)

Guestbook comments from the owner

What a wonderful place!

  • 5 of 5

Villa Montecristo: what a wonderful place!

Our expectations before coming were very high, but in fact the reality was better than dreams.

After months of correspondence with the very kind and professional owner (where we made so many questions - maybe too many - but she always answered promptly and kindly) we finally arrived at Villa Montecristo. First we saw the blossoming garden facing the sea with its sunny spots, shady areas and wonderful terrace under the pergola where the dining area is, at that was marvelous.

The house inside left us without words: I am an architect and I use to see beautiful houses, but I've never seen something like that before: so charming, so historical, so good taste forniture, in one word: so beautiful! The kitchen preserves its antique charme but with all modern appliances needed, every room has its own soul and the sitting room is something you don't have the chance to see often in life and worth the journey. We were over the moon and we thought we couldn't be happier until.... we saw the swimming pool! I think it is unique in the world as it was a granite quarry the owners converted in a swimming pool. It has infinity edge so while you swim in the emerald waters you have the feeling you're swimming in the sea but what is incredible is that the original granite stone is untouched! I asked the owners and they explained me it took five years for the project and many months to realize because nobody made a thing like that before, but the result surely worth the big effort! What else? I think we can't asked for more and we'll be surely back for another wonderful holiday!

Beautiful, stunning, special and a happy house.

  • 5 of 5

We loved our stay at Villa Montecristo it was secluded enough that we didn’t annoy the neighbours with our music, but also stunning and breathtaking with plenty of room for everyone to relax. Two beaches are walking distance and beautiful, the village has everything you would need , all again a tiny walk away.

We didn’t want to leave the house as such a beautiful house. There were 17 of us and we ate outside every night and opened the front gate to watch the sea.

The pool is incredible, really difficult to put in words how stunning it was (we rent a lot of homes and villas and this one certainly was incredible) all correspondence was clear and precise . If your not Italian then it seems a bit of a faff to have to pay deposit, cleaning, electric, water and sheets and towels. But this is how it mostly works anywhere in Italy, so don’t be put off , the house is so worth all the little extra bits that need to be done. If I could go back every year I would. The family trust people to look after all the stunning art and furniture which we did. I’m not sure I could rent it out if mine!!! Amazing beautiful relaxing stunning fabulous. Thank you for a great stay

Tolle Yogawoche in Seccheto in einem wunderbaren Haus direkt am Meer

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

Great location

  • 5 of 5

Overall a great house to spend relaxing and calm holidays. A lot of space, amazing outdoor pool & very close to the beach. We were in total 12 persons - 6 of them children. We had enough space indoor and outdoor and enjoyed our stay very much. Also the little town, the beach as well as the restaurants, food markets etc. were reachable within a few minutes by foot. Thus I can recommend this house very much and I am sure that it won't be the last time we have been there.
