A design and confortable house, on a small and relaxed island, in the Gulf of Thailand.
A quiet area, an amazing sea view, an easy access... the perfect place for your next holidays in Thailand.
"We stayed at the house and it was our first time visiting Thailand. The house is a good 5 minute drive from Sairee Village and the final part is all uphill. A scooter is a must when staying at this house and we hired one for £60 for the entire 3 weeks from a small shop just down the bottom of the hill. Make sure you take pictures before you take the scooter away as the rental shops are renowned for charging tourists for the smallest scratches although we didn’t have any problems but were very prepared to argue our corner if they did try to charge us for anything".
The house itself gives possibly the best views that we saw of Koh Tao. The building is set at the top of some precarious steps with no banister to hold onto so you have to take plenty of care. There is a large outdoor balcony with tables and chairs, along with a BBQ and with it being south facing it had the sun on it from 8am until 4pm so it is perfect for sunbathing if you don’t want to go to the beach.
The interior is very modern, all open plan with a small kitchen, living room and then steps up to the double bed. Again the views are magnificent with patio doors giving un-obscured views out beyond the balcony and towards Sairee beach and Mae Haad. The kitchen is well equipped for simple cooking with a hob, kettle, toaster and fridge and we made good use of the BBQ although eating out is just as cheap and there are plenty of restaurants to go on the island. We would highly recommend Thipwimarn Resort which is down the hill and right. Get there just before sunset and it will give you one of the most breathtaking views over the sea. The food is amazing and we had 2 courses and drinks for less than £20.
The bathroom is also modern with a large walk in shower. You have to be aware that you cannot put paper down the toilets so there is a bin next to the toilet and you just empty it each day. Water also has to be used carefully as there is a tank sat outside that supplies the house and if it runs out it cannot be filled up any time quickly. As long as you are aware of this and take quick showers you shouldn’t have problems-we didn’t run out in the 3 weeks we were there.
If you do enquire and go onto book the house, Cecile who owns the property is so helpful and a wealth of knowledge on Koh Tao. We were a bit apprehensive sending our deposit via bank transfer to her Thai account but it is all legitimate and we only paid 40% this way and the rest of it by cash when we arrived on holiday. Cecile will be more than happy to answer any questions that you have before you go like we did such as getting transport to the island and where to stay for a night in Koh Samui. She also sent a lot of information by email a week or so before we arrived with info on the house and her recommendations on good places to eat and dive.
If Cecile isn’t in Koh Tao (she lives in France) her friend Shirley will meet you at the pier and will be your point of contact throughout your stay. She also has a wealth of knowledge on Koh Tao and will also give her recommendations on places to eat. etc. It is worth picking up a Thai Sim Card (we were handed one free at the airport) as it is cheap to keep in contact with anyone on the island and works out at about 10p/min to ring the UK. It is also easier to keep track on how much you have spent rather than a pay monthly mobile.
The only thing that put a slight (and only very slight) downer on the stay in the house was the wildlife. Although we were well aware we were staying in a tropical country and so we were likely to see creepy crawlies, we weren’t expecting to chase out Gecko’s (a large lizard with a squeaking call) out of the house the first two nights. Although they will not hurt you the thought of having them moving about the room when we were in bed wasn’t very appealing and it took us an hour and a half to chase one out the first night and then we found a further three in the house on the second night. We realised ...
