Typical seasonal residents are owners and renter families that have been coming for decades to enjoy a step back to simpler times where daily swims, sunning, walking, fishing, clamming, boating and friendly impromptu gatherings abound.

We grew up in the New Haven area. We have four kids. Two are in high school, one is in college and one is out of college working. Our parents have a cottage on Leete's Island as well.
Bill & Maria Shank purchased this cottage in 2014
We have summered on this land-access island for 30 years. We recently sold our previous cottage that was situated nicely with waterviews. Our intention was to sell and share our parents' cottage intermittently. There was an opportunity to purchase this waterfront cottage with rare access to the water and more living space. We are renting it when we can to help cover the costs of this luxury. We live in the cottage during July and August. We rent in May/June and Sep/Oct while our children are still active with school activities. We live locally in the same town year round. This is not an investment property for us - it is our way of life.
When we stay on the island, we quickly shed our daily lives. We wear old shorts, T-shirts and flip-flops. We relax mentally but are always 'on the go' boating, entertaining, fishing, doing cottage projects and celebrating family events with cookouts. We watch DVD movies but do our best to limit e-mail and internet while we are there.
Our kids have grown up on the island. They have lifelong summer friends where they spend long days in bathing suits swimming, wakeboarding, jumping off the cliffs, clamming, playing cards and games, painting shells and dreaming up other ways to enjoy life. Last summer, they got their boating licenses so can now take our boat out on their own. They are more disconnected from the normal distractions of media because they are outside all day and night. This has allowed us to more easily get them to sit down and read versus watch television or text.
Coffee in the morning during the silent sunrise while sitting on the water is one of two favorite attributes. The second is listening to the water lap up on the rocks as you go to sleep; it's like having one of those relaxation CD tracks only the real thing.
The property is absolutely gorgeous! We were fortunate to be there during the peak colors of the fall. The drive from the interstate to the house was actually a treat everyday. The house was comfortable and perfect for both relaxing and enjoying the views and the changing tides as well as entertaining our many friends and family. I cannot express enough how wonderful our stay was. We had some difficult family decisions and tasks to deal with during our 8 days but they were definitely made a little easier with our sweet beach house retreat! I hope to stay again in the spring.
We rented June 17th through the 24th. I first have to say how amazingly accommodating the owner is the home is rented with one tv but he put a second tv in to accommodate my needs. The home is beautiful, quaint and exactly what I imagined a Connecticut beach house would look like. What is in the pictures is exactly what you get and more. This home was perfect with so so much to do. I have a 14 year old son who was busy the whole time with all the amenities offered at this property. It was truly the best vacation I have had. I even had a BBQ with family and friends who live in the area and they all fell in love with the home just like we did. I will most defiantly rent again. I do have to mention that the neighbors should do a better job of keeping their dog in out of the yard. We stumbled on dog feces a few times and since this is a rental property the neighbors should be respectful of that. This is not the fault of the owner just something I have to mention since I am also an animal owner and keep my animals in my own yard to respect my neighbors.Other than that I would happily step in dog mess next time we rent because we will be back. Take some advice from me, a person who stays in 5 star resorts OFTEN if you are reading this review and looking at this home stop right now and BOOK it because you will LOVE this place.
This cottage really helped to make our holiday over in Conneticut a very memorable one. We were over for a week in May to attend our sisters graduation and the cottage was a wonderful place to celebrate with other family members. It was beautifully and simply done inside and had everything we needed for our stay - there was even a small boat and kayak for us to make use of. The owners Bill and Maria were incredibly helpful and encouraged my sister to visit the property beforehand to see what all we might need. But the most amazing thing about it was the setting, waking up to that view every morning was fantastic, and helped make up for the fact we were all jet lagged and kept waking up incredibly early! The area surrounding the cottage was also lovely and great for taking walks and runs in, with small beaches and wooded areas and a tiny little play area which our two year old loved.
We had a couple of evenings were we invited some of my sisters friends over after the graduation, one of whom was from Conneticut and claimed it was one of the nicest views in the State.
We did visit a few places around the area, and there is plenty to do, Guilford and Branford had loads of lovely restaurants and coffee places which we took advantage of, but the most enjoyable thing about the holiday was just hanging around together in the cottage. There was a small private beach which was ideal for us with young children who had a blast playing in the sand.
I feel we found a real gem, and Im glad we found it when we did as they have only recently put this property forward as a holiday rental, and given a couple of years I'd say it will be constantly booked out by people living nearer by who could more easily return. Unfortunately for us we live too far away to be back anytime soon, but if we did this would be our first choice for accommodation.
Babysitting: There are plenty of teenagers on the island that can be trusted. We can assist in finding a suitable babysitter for you to interview and hire.
