Dawn, David and Matthew : Just to say thank you for making us all so welcome at Chez Gabrielle. The gite, Jasmin, was just perfect - beautifully finished and so well supplied with everything a family could need on holiday. The surrounding area is lovely and so many places to see that 1 week was not really long enough. We will keep in touch and hope to see you again next summer.
Nuala, Mac and boys: Had a lovely, relaxing holiday in 'Jasmin' in Fontaine - Chalendray. Hosts welcoming, friendly and helpful.
Accommodation comfortable, spacious, clean and well - appointed. Children loved the pool, table - tennis and boules. We loved the countryside for cycling, safe and picturesque. Good memories.
Christine, Rob Em and Rebekah: It was a real pleasure to stay in such a beautiful home, Fleur ( even if only for a fortnight). We will look forward to coming back. Be in touch soon
Stayed for a week and it was so relaxing and quiet within the French countryside. The gite was clean and tidy and well equipped. The oven was a challenge however! But it added to its charm. So typically French with a balcony to the master bedroom. We had access to English tv which helped entertain the kids. The pool was delightful and was maintained by Jimmy on a daily basis. Overall a little slice of heaven.
The setting is peaceful but not to far from interesting tourist attractions. The accommodation was idea for young family members and the pool was great.
The place is perfect, we had a family reunion, it's really safe really homely, lots of bathrooms (we took both gites) close enough to amenities and places to visit! Manager very helpful. Would happily go back again! Perfect place!!!
We really enjoyed our stay.
The cottage is very quiet and the village is nice as well.
We particularly liked the fact that the household linen is provided (sheets, towels, pool towels, bath mats, tea towels). The cleaning products are also available.
The garden is closed, access to the pool is through a door that closes with a padlock, which is really nice with young children.
The couple who runs the property is very friendly and available.
We highly recommend this location.
Jasmin is a picture perfect gite, in a pretty perfect location. I was worried that the reality wouldn't live up to the pictures, particularly given how cheap it was, but I needn't have been concerned. The gite itself is beautiful. It is fully equipped with anything you would need, and very quickly felt like home. The gardens are ideal - not huge, but beautiful, and ideal for playing boules or badminton. The pool, too, is just lovely.
The location of the gite couldn't be better. Fontaine Chalendray is a gorgeous little village, lovely and peaceful, with fantastic views all around. It's under an hour to get to La Rochelle, and Saintes and Cognac are within easy reach.
We had a lovely time staying in Jasmin.
The owners of this pretty little gite that is set in a quiet village the vine country, were most accommodating in my requirements, which were slightly outside of the normal. They were most happy to allow me to take 3 dogs and even arranged for a dog sitter. They were agreeable for me take the gite mid week which I found very useful.
I was met by the caretakers who could not have been more helpful and welcoming. The gite was spotless and tastefully decorated, it was reasonably well equipped, especially for outside activities. The kitchen I found was missing some basic things and was only equipped with four of everything which was a little tedious as I kept running out of crockery and cutlery.
I would the stairs not suitable for very young children.
The garden was lovely, well looked after and completely enclosed and safe.
There are some fabulous walks in the area and some of the best beef I have had, try the Charolais steaks - delicious. The villages are pretty here but I found it best to get off the tourist trails and you see much more of real life. The best beach for walking dogs has to be the Cote Sauvage, - stunning with kilometre after kilometre of pine forest bordering the sand dunes, but possible not available for dog walking during the high season. The little seaside towns were lovely but again out of season.
Jarnac well worth a trip as is Restaurant La Ribaudière Bourg-Charente, which is absolutely superb.
I have recommended this relaxing gite to my friends and hope to visit again.
Set on a hilltop with superb views over the surrounding countryside, Fontaine Chalendray is in the heart of Cognac country. We are a 15 min drive from the market towns of Matha and Aulnay, where you will find supermarket shopping, and hypermarket shopping available in Cognac or St Jean d'Angely which is are around a 30 min drive. The Atlantic beaches of Royan,Ile d'Oleron and the chic town of La Rochelle, Futuroscope park at Poitiers, and the chocolate factory at Angouleme are all a pleasant hour's drive away.
Other Activities: table tennis, boules
Golf: There are 3 good golf courses within 50 mins drive of Chez Gabrielle at Cognac, Saintes, and La Rochelle (by the sea).
