About this property

4 Bedrooms & 3 baths on Quiet Cul de Sac, Walk to Beach, Bike Path Outside Door

This lovely four bedroom and 3 bathroom townhome is located in a beautifully maintained complex of Lake Forest Glen just a short distance from downtown Tahoe City. Although our room sizes are not large, the condo can comfortably fit a mix of 3-5 adults with 2-4 children, with no more than a maximum of 8 guests. The condo complex includes an adult swimming pool with a year round hot tub and sauna, a family pool with a tot lot and four tennis courts. Lake Forest Glen is located on the Lake Tahoe side of the main road and is within walking distance to either the Skylandia or Lake Forest beaches. The Lake Forest public boat ramp is less than 1 mile from our front door. You can bike or walk into town on the paved path that is just around the corner from our private cul de sac. Great hiking is abundant in and around Tahoe City and can be found as close as the meadow that is our backyard or a short drive to the west shore, Squaw or Donner Pass. For winter enthusiasts you are located within a 10 to 20 minute drive from from four major ski resorts including Squaw Valley, Alpine Meadows, Homewood and Northstar. Tahoe XC Center is located less than a mile, right up the road or cross country ski in the meadow right out our back door.

Within our lovely updated condo you will find four bedrooms decorated in a cabin/cottage style. The master bedroom has a queen size bed, and en-suite bathroom with shower and a beautiful view of the meadow. The second guest room, 'the pink room' also has a queen bed and shares the main hall bathroom (which includes a bath tub/shower combination) with the third bedroom. The 'cowboy bunk room' has a double mattress bottom bunk and twin size top bunk. The fourth bedroom is located on the main level where there is a full bath with a shower. The fourth bedroom creates the perfect space for any guests that prefer to feel a bit separated from the rest of the group or others not wanting to climb the stairs. All of the upstairs bedrooms have cable TV. The main living area has a beautifully updated galley kitchen that includes a ten foot long granite dining bar, a dishwasher and a stacked washer and dryer on the far end. The kitchen is outfitted with all the small appliances, pots and pan and utensils that a chef would need.

Out the back door we have a large deck with a table that seats six, as well as other seating and a bench that runs the length of the deck. We also have a gas grill that can be used year round.

Tahoe City is such a wonderful, quaint, little town that is really a community. It is the only 'walking' town around the entire lake. Although our little town is less than a mile long, this town has everything a visitor needs. Beside the two grocery stores, a CVS and post office for convenience there are many recreational and ski shops for all your activity needs. You will find ski and snowboard rentals, ski clothing, bike, kayak and paddle board stores. There is a gym that faces out over the lake and several places to drop in on a yoga class, even right on the lake with a rented paddleboard! Others may be glad to find great clothing boutiques, art galleries, jewelry stores and T-shirt/souvenir shops. There are two interesting museums in town and the historic Fanny Bridge to view the dam that releases the lake water into the Truckee river. You will find several great pubs and restaurants located along our main street and right on the lakefront around the Tahoe City Marina and Yacht club. Every Sunday afternoon in the summer, you will hear the sounds of live music coming from the lake front at the free concert on Commons Beach. There is always a fun crowd of local families mixed with visiting tourists and children of all ages. All are enjoying lite fare from local vendors, picnics brought from home or barbecuing right on the beach. If you are not a skier or hiker you still will find endless fun things to do. Sightseeing is abundant in Tahoe City and the entire magnificent Lake Tahoe area!

Great ski weekend!
We came up for a weekend of snowboarding at Squaw Valley. Very nice clean place. Comfortable with nearby shopping and food. Had a great time.

Overdue for some TLC/updating?
Location is fantastic (Dollar Point! Tahoe City!), and the owner was easy to reach and easy to communicate with. The kitchen is extremely well-appointed! In some other regards, however, the unit is showing its age. The wall paint is scraped and scuffed, the furniture is getting old, and the interior lighting is very limited, giving the unit a dark feel that is nothing like the photos. The mattresses and bedding, in particular, appear to be very old. This is clearly a well-loved AND well-used family home, and that may suit your needs beautifully. (For example, we LOVED that some food staples are left from visitor to visitor, rather than being stripped out to leave a sterile kitchen.) But a friend of ours stayed in a nearby unit that has seen a remodel since its original construction, and the difference was dramatic. One minor note: in summertime, this is a beach place. While the web description says beach towels are not provided, the owner's emailed instructions tell you explicitly how to separate and care for the unit's beach towels. It turns out the web description is the accurate one (no towels), and the owner's justification for this (that prior visitors trashed them) was disappointing--isn't that the reason for a security deposit? Renting out a Tahoe beach place, while expecting visitors either to travel with beach towels, or go buy them at the grocery store, struck us as unrealistic.

This condo was just a great fit for our family! So close to Lake Tahoe and town. Beautiful
Wonderful winter wonderland! Back door opened to a clear meadow of snow for endless play by the kids! So nice to be able to send them out in their gear and watch from the living room window! Kitchen had everything we could ever want. Bedrooms were plenty big with very comfy beds. Kids room was so great! Especially the tv in each room with streaming channels according to my 7 and 9 year old nieces! So close to every winter activity too. 2 minutes from the lake, town, snow parks, movies, and shopping. Would definitely book this condo again! Owner was so kind and quick to respond with any questions I had. Thanks for a great holiday! Amy, Santa Rosa, Ca

Great location, good for families
The condo was in a great location, walking distance from the lake and close to Tahoe City. There's a great bakery just a few minutes walk away. The condo was comfortable and clean, with the exception of the carpets which were a bit stained in some areas and a funny smell in the master bedroom and bathroom. The kitchen was well-stocked.

Convenient and roomy for family
Tricia's condo in Lake Forest Glen is a 4-bedroom that comfortably housed my husband and I, our adult son and daughter and their under 4-, 3- year old and 10 month old for 8 days. We love the location and condo facilities: family pool, quiet pool and hot tub, small playground, and plenty of space outdoors for bike riding in the complex. The home itself is in a quiet area near the entry of the complex. The view of a meadow off the back deck was a family favorite. The kitchen was well stocked with pans, pots, utensils and plates, etc. Beds were comfortable and bedding was fine. Two issues for our family had included: the back deck had boards and nails lifting up and were a bit treacherous on bare feet. The area rug in the living room was in need of a deep cleaning. Walking with bare feet left feet blackened. The stair carpet was also in need of a good cleaning. We do love this condo complex for our annual family trip to Tahoe. We liked the four bedroom floor plan, and hope to find one for sale in the complex in the future.

About the host

Hosted by Tricia Scarcia

Host profile image
We are Patricia and Larry Scarcia and we live in Glenwood, Maryland. We are avid skiers and fell in love with the Lake Tahoe area when our son moved here in 1997. In 1999 my husband and I decided to purchase a second home as an investment property in Tahoe City.

Why they chose this property

We get to experience the best of winter at the local world-class ski resorts and the best of summer in this picturesque town located right on Lake Tahoe. After 24 years of traveling back and forth from the east coast, we are now able to spend more time in Tahoe. Unfortunately, we cannot always be here, but we have decided to continue to share our dream place with others who decide to visit the beautiful Lake Tahoe area.
Please note * Tahoe is a beautiful and fun place to visit, but occasionally this area can be affected by extreme weather events. While we never want things like icy roads, road closures, or smoke from wildfires to negatively impact our guests, it can happen. We ask travelers to plan their vacation appropriately for the rural mountain climate and encourage guests to research all travel insurance options, as we cannot provide refunds for things outside of our control.

What makes this property unique

We were so happy to find a condo with not just three, but four bedrooms and three full bathrooms in our price range (as there were not a lot of listings in the spring of 1999)...so, we bought the condo site unseen on the advice of our real estate agent and our 20-year-old son. We were quite trusting, weren't we?!?! As it turned out this was the perfect condo for us. The location in Lake Forest Glen is quiet and private being one of the few condos located right on the meadow with great views of the surrounding mountains. Most of the other condos within our complex do not have as much privacy as our condo. Many of the units back up to the road or other units. A fourth bedroom on the main level is a plus that gives its guests extra privacy with the benefit of a full bathroom with a shower. There are very few if any other condos for rent in Lake Forest that have three full baths.
The Lake Forest Glen management does a great job of keeping our pools clean, our grounds beautifully maintained, and most importantly the snow cleared from our roads in the winter, so you can get out early to ski! As long-distance owners, Lake Forest Glen offered all the amenities any visitor or owner would want, without having to worry about any maintenance.
