About LaRue Wait
Natives of NC and SC with a number of family members living in points North and West.
LaRue Wait purchased this House in 1962
Why LaRue Wait chose Topton
The house was built by our father and mother when there were only a few houses on the lake. The land it was built on was part of a large tract of land that our parents bought back when the Nantahala Lake was known to only a few local mountain folk. It has been in our family ever since. To say that there are countless memories of visits and gatherings of family and friends is a huge understatement. We gather here during three seasons (it's a bit cold in the winter so it is generally closed then) and enjoy the wonderful scenery and all that mountain fresh air. This house is a true treasure and was built by our father and other local mountain men. The stone steps to the lake were laid by a local mason. The trees, including two apple trees and a pear tree, were planted by our father. And to this day I tend to and add to our mother's wonderful selection of native plants that add different colors to the landscape throughout the year.
What makes this House unique
Nature, the lake, the fresh mountain air and communion with loved ones.

Great lake house!
We liked this house so much when we stayed two years ago that we jumped at the chance to stay again. It was just as we remembered--clean, well-equipped, and perfect for relaxing with friends and family. We love the open floor plan, easy lake access, and friendly management. Thanks for sharing your home with us!
Excellent no complaints at all! Great family fun atmosphere...Gid less you.
Excellent fun family atmosphere. Rent the pontoon boat and have additional fun. Marina food is awesome too.
Great quiet lake house
The house was exactly how it looks online, very quiet and peaceful. Would go back again.
Although this property can sleep well over eight guests, It was just me and my dog. We had a great time. The lake was beautiful and the patroon boat rental was great fun. My only suggestion would be to please get Wi-Fi. :)
I love this place!!
Rustic well furnished clean and a view to die for! And the lake a few steps away!! Thanks to Bev and Chris for being so kind and helpful!! Loved their boat it made the trip even more perfect! Kathy and Micheal
Beautiful area, wonderful property management!
Couldn't be happier with Bev!
Some of the best whitewater in the USA is within 1-3 hours driving distance. Also, fantastic road and mountain biking, as well as hiking are accessible within minutes. The Appalachian Trail is 7 miles away, and Bartram Trail is within 2 miles. The Nantahala River is 12 miles away.
Fishing on the lake and in nearby rivers is also very good. Plenty of local advice can be had through local tackle and outdoor stores.
The Cherokee Indian Reservation is a 1 hr drive and has a casino, souvenirs and a wonderful, family-friendly performance called Unto These Hills documenting the Trail of Tears.
