About Ralph and Chris Coleman

Ralph and Chris Coleman; Therapists for 30 years; this is a second career in a related service area - seeing guests enjoying their vacations, in-between life-challenges. that we all experience!!

Ralph and Chris Coleman purchased this chalet in 2014

Why Ralph and Chris Coleman chose Mount Rainier

Our son, a Realtor, located this Inn. He thought it would be an excellent second career for his parents and he was correct!! We have enjoyed renovating the Chalet Inn and are restoring the Historic Inn, on the same property. One of us first visited this area, at about age 5, while climbing a wildflower hillside with their grandparents/parents. Then, we continued to return to Mt Rainier ever after...

What makes this chalet unique

We fell in love with this property, as it is located on a beautiful, old-growth, park-like setting, with Cedars, Douglas Firs, and Maples. Then, there are two enchanting Chalet Inn, with Private Suites and a 1910 Historic Craftsman Home, that is being renovated to restore it's total charm. It is also in the Mountain Village of Ashford, with excellent restaurants, shops, stores and further amenities. We enjoy being on the property; being in the Ashford Community; as well as, being so close to Mt. Rainier, the second National Park in the Nation.

Wonderful Chalet and Great Hosts!

  • 5 of 5

This chalet was perfect for our family of 6. We were able to split up into our own private suites (2 in each suite) and were very comfortable. The location is wonderful if you are interested in staying near Mt. Rainier. It only took us a few minutes to reach the entrance to the National Park and it was a beautiful drive. We did a lot of sight seeing in other areas (Seattle, Olympia, Steilacoom, Tacoma) and we did not find the location of the chalet to be an issue as it was only an hour to an hour and a half drive to our destinations. The chalet does not get cell service and the wifi is pretty spotty, but we really enjoyed not being tied to any of our devices while out there. Chris and Ralph are phenomenal hosts and were extremely accommodating. We couldn't have had a better experience. I will note that I brought my 10 month old baby with us and we didn't struggle to entertain her. She slept in the bed with me but if you plan on bringing a baby and do not like to bed share, I would suggest bringing a pack-n-play.

Three Rooms, Four Bedrooms

  • 2 of 5

We thought that we were renting a house with four bedrooms, three with bathrooms. Instead, we had rented three motel rooms each equiped with a kitchen sink, a small refrigerator and a microwave. One "suite" had 2 small bedrooms each with a bed hardly large enough for two adults. This building also includes a garage that was not available for guests. The house in the online picture is next to a real house with three large bedrooms with large queen beds, large living room, large dining room and large kitchen. The two houses together are appropriate for a large group needing up to seven bedrooms.

Owner's Response: We truly apologize, that the Chalet did not seem to meet the needs of some of the guests, in this party. (Other guests, from this party, provided really positive feedback). We will try to clarify any concerns below: The number of guests, listed on the reservation made was 7adults and 3 children...actually 9 adults and 3 children arrived. It is meant for 10 guests at a maximum, for comfort and enjoyment. Also, at best it is meant for 3 groups (one for each Suite) and yet the guest wrote me sharing, that it was difficult, because he had four families with him (when it really is meant for three families or groups at the most). Also, there are a total of 4 bedrooms in the three Suites listed in the write-up presentation we have. One suite has two bedrooms (each with full-bed) a second suite has a queen-bed and full-bed and the third Suite has a queen-bed and twin-bed. Plus, we brought in a roll-away twin bed. These are all normal size beds for their description...for example, the full-size bed being a normal full-size bed and all. So we are sad to say, that the concerns listed were more self-created by the the person making the reservation, by bringing extra guests and a fourth family. The garage is not to be used, as it is necessary to have for storage for supplies. The Inn, next door that we also rent, had been already reserved by other guests, prior to the reservation for this Chalet. It just seems that this Guest was perhaps upset, that they hadn't reserved the Inn, in time. These guests, in the Chalet, state they would like to return in a year and utilize both the Inn and Chalet at that point. So, it doesn't seem as if the Chalet was the real issue, so much as the number of guests they decided to bring with them...we only request, that guests please keep within the number of guests requested or it truly will be more challenging.

A Home Away from Home!

  • 4 of 5

We really enjoyed our stay. The room was the perfect size and it was very nice having the little kitchen area. The coffee grinder added a nice touch to have fresh coffee in the morning.

There was just the right amount of privacy, it was nice having access to the hot tub in the evenings. I appreciate how informative you were regarding any questions we had. Excellent service if I must say so!

We will definitely consider staying again when we make our way over that way some day.

Mountain Meadow Inn Chalet, near Mr. Rainier

  • 4 of 5

We had a wonderful family vacation at this lovely inn near the Mt. Rainier Nisqually Entrance. The owners were so friendly and helpful with tips on navigating the area, before and during our stay. They were quick to reply as well. The suites were clean and comfortable and it was great to have our own kitchens plus heat in each unit. The hot tub was a plus, and it is in a beautiful outdoor setting. The price is so reasonable - better than other similar properties in the area, and far more space than hotel rooms. We wished that there was a central gathering room between the suites so our group could more easily gather for cards or games in the evening, but we were still able to do so in any of the suites. Internet connection was a bit spotty/slow at times.

Owner's Response: To Future Guests... We do have High-Speed Internet. It is able to be utilized in all Suites and on the park-like grounds. The Ashford area is close to Seattle and yet remote enough, 6 miles from the Mt. Rainier National Park, that Internet is not as consistent in the entire area. We are fortunate to have it as excellently as we do. We find, as in any location, that the weather will impact usage some and that the number of guests in the Chalet, using Internet at one time, can stress the process some. We try to share this, especially when we know that there are many people who may use the Internet at once. Then, they have the opportunity to stagger their use some, then it works far better (for example 2 guests at a time in each Suite, say, rather than 3 to 4 each Suite). Hope this helps!! P.S., For some reason, Internet on phones often comes on-line quickest, then IPad use, etc...

Family weekend

  • 5 of 5

We booked this getaway for a long weekend with our kids and grandkids. There was plenty of room for the group and everyone had a good time. The kids couldn't do much playing outside because it was pretty muddy around, but that is to be expected this time of year. Looking around, it seems like it will be beautiful to hang outside in drier weather. It is also very close to the park to go play in the snow in the winter. The owner, Chris, was very responsive and helpful. I would recommend it to any group.

Relaxing and Inviting property!

  • 5 of 5

Our group would absolutely stay here again. It was peaceful, close to the park and clean. We really loved it. I would recommend this property to any large group looking to spend time as one and retreat into your own rooms for the evening. This property was clean, welcoming and the rental attendants were available and very helpful to us. Mount Rainier park is really close and easy to get to. This rental was easy to find, the owners were really helpful. Bring your group here to reconnect and recharge.

We are located in a park-like setting. The Historic Home dates to 1910 and was the Superintendent's Home, for the largest mill west of the Mississippi at that time. Then, we have a Chalet, with three Suites as well. We have deer and elk who enjoy the property. We are within walking distance to Ashford, a really enjoyable mountain community. Then, we are 1/3 of a mile from a 50-mile trail system (Mt. Tahoma Trail Association). We are also only 6 miles form the entrance to Mt. Rainier National Park. There are many, many trails and hiking experiences within the Park. There are guides in the area, who also will assist people with ascending to the top of Mt. Rainier. Once inside the Park, there is Longmire, which has trails, café/restaurant, store/art shop and museum. Then, a little further in the Park is Paradise, which has a Lodge (operational in the summer), with a Deli/Pub, Dining area, coffee shop area, store/art shop and two huge fireplaces. You will love this entire area, for all of the experiences one can have. Hope you join us soon for an experiential and destinational stay!!!

The Chalet is in a park-like setting, that guests enjoy, before and after their sight-seeing and hiking at Mt. Rainier. We are only 6 miles from the entrance to the National Park. Then, within six more miles, there is the Longmire area, with trails, museum, gift shop and a restaurant open year-around. Then, in 12 more miles is Paradise...if it is a clear day, it is recommended to always go there first. There are many trails, a historic building with a restaurant and a cafe in the summer, as well as near-by Reflection Lakes (where beautiful pictures can often be taken, of Mountain Rainier, in the reflection of the Lakes). Also, we are only 1/2 mile from the mountain community, of Ashford, with a Sports Store, Espresso shop, two restaurants and two small grocery stores (one with a gas station). Then, within 4 miles of Ashford are several more excellent restaurants (moderately-priced). There are several art shops as well... You will love this area and the Chalet!
