"The Lookout" overlooks the entire "Abbot Kinney District," the trendiest section on the Westside.. An upper duplex, studio unit with a clever layout that makes it perfect for one or two people. "The Lookout" consists of the rear, lower portion (plus a "pop-up" loft bedroom with an adjoining deck) of 'Charlie Chaplin's Old House,' an iconic, 1913 California Craftsman. EVERYTHING IS PRIVATE, private entry, private outdoor space, private secure on-site parking, automatic garage door opener, personal code keypad door entry, WIFI, washer-dryer, kitchenette with microwave, sink, garbage disposal and refrigerator (no stove), travertine bathroom, king size bed, Tempurpedic mattress, 55' HDTV, 12'x20' deck with director chairs, director table and canopy overlooking Abbot Kinney Boulevard adjoining the 'pop-up" loft bedroom. It's the best location imaginable and only 6 blocks from Venice Beach. "The Lookout" provides the best combination of affordability, location, comfort, convenience, access and security of any vacation rental in Venice.

About Don Tollefson

I reside in Venice and I'm referred to as a neighborhood developer. When I purchased the property in 1979, my friends thought I was crazy. Back then, Venice was a high crime, blighted area with little prospect of improvement. Now, everyone says I'm brilliant!. The truth is, I was simply lucky. The one thing I've learned over the years is if you have your choice between smart and lucky, take lucky.

Why Don Tollefson chose Los Angeles

This is a classic, 1913 California craftsman sitting on a promontory that protrudes (actually encroaches) out into California Avenue. Because of it's architecture and site, the property has become an local landmark. I always felt it was just a matter of time before the Abbot Kinney District would take off. I waited and waited and waited and waited. Finally, a few years ago it started happening. Today, the Abbot Kinney District is the trendiest section on the Westside. And Venice is becoming one of the top vacation destinations in the world. And it's only 6 blocks from Venice Beach, part of the largest, continuous, dry sand beach in the world.

What makes this studio unique

The combination of comfort, convenience, security, and affordability within perhaps the most unique, useable, small-space layout possible. Best of all? One, secure, onsite parking space with an automatic garage door opener. Check out the video.

A gem in the best area of Venice

First time staying at ‘The Lookout’, it won’t be the last !

Don is a master at providing comfort, convinience, efficiency & friendship. The location of The Lookout is probably the best in Venice. You literally are in the best location for Abbot Kinney. Additionally, the type of stores located within a 1-5 minute walk, are all you need. Self discipline is needed, as home made ice cream at the Salt & Straw plus Abbot Pizza are two of the ‘best in category’ i’d yet to find in L.A.

Pros: Location-security-parking-washer & dryer-refrigerator-views-huge TV-spacious patio with ultra comfortable reclining lounge chairs & table with separate set of chairs-affordability (best value-really should cost more considering comparable prices)

Cons: NONE

To sum up my experience, total relaxation & happiness !

Side note ; Don is a professional at anticipating, delivering & making sure every last detail of your visit is managed correctly. He is the definition of a hands on operator, passionately thinking of ways to improve his properties & providing local knowledge.

Truly had a most enjoyable stay & look forward to returning !!

Ideal location, has everything you need.

The super convenience of this location plus the fun of the rooftop terrace for people watching made a great combination. The bed is very comfortable for sleeping and lounging. My husband was able to really enjoy watching football on the big screen TV. We will be back !!

Wonderful

What a great find! So close to shops and restaurants. The lookout is clean and comfortable. The washer and dryer come in very handy. The rooftop terrace is amazing complete with lounge chairs to enjoy the sun. A comfortable walk to the boardwalk and beach. Bike rentals are across the street. Would highly recommend and I will be back!!

Visit Number Three!!!

Another terrific stay at the Lookout...such a superb value and ideal location! The effortlessness and familiarity really made it feel like home which made my stay even more productive and enjoyable. It's so nice to return to such a trusted place that has everything one needs and everything else so close by and lots of new finds since my last visit. Great to linger outside on the terrific deck and enjoy the cool breeze after a hot day in LA. Really quite a treasure! Thank you, Don!
