Sightseeing: City of Almeria - visit the Alcazaba, an ancient Arab fortress built by the Calph of Cordoba.

City of Granada and the famous Alhambra can be seen in a days trip.

Alpujarras valley with its famous white washed villages and the cave houses at Guadix on the Granada road.

Tabernas Desert visit Mini Hollywood, the location of many a spaghetti western such as 'The Good, The Bad and The Ugly'.

Shopping: Great shopping in Almeria city. Only 10 minutes drive into centre. Good bus service runs locally.

Roqetas de Mar - has a big shopping complex, only 20 min drive from the apartment, free parking, lots of restaurants.

Great apartment, clean and well equipped. Private outdoor space and quiet road in gated community. Community is well maintained with garden areas, pool and paddle tennis.

Fantastic walks from the apartment along the coast and promenades. Beach clean and well maintained with good local beach bars and restaurants.

Local supermarket is well stocked to get all your supplies, easy to get to Almeria or Cabo de Gata national park and the unspoilt coastline this has to offer....we will be back to explore some more.

A holiday away from the crowds.......

Visited the apartment as a party of 4 - apartment is really spacious and very high quality furniture - plenty of room for us all - kitchen very modern with everything you would need. Much higher standard than other apartments we have rented for a lot more money! Although El Toyo is a small resort, there is everything you could need here for a relaxing holiday. Beach is very quiet and there are just enough bars and restaurants - if you are looking for English breakfast then this is not the place for you - it is very Spanish and hope it stays that way. Great choice of wines in all the bars. 4 star hotels across the road welcome non residents and we did spend a bit of time around their pool. Great garden area with the apartment and a very handy BBQ which we used a couple of times - the one local supermarket has everything you could need with meat and fish. This is not an English resort and english is not widely spoken - if you like a taste of real Spain then this is the place for you. Lovely walk from the apartment in front of the hotels along a decked promenade alongside the beach - 3 beach bars and we visited them all - all serve really good choice of fish. Would go back and stay at this apartment any time - we were mixed ages and all felt catered for. Very peaceful and relaxing and guaranteed sunshine. What more could you ask for.

Very well equipped, climatized flat with terrace, 10 min to the beach (absolutely not overcrowded). Appropriate infrastructure within 20 min walking.

Interesting surrounding for tourists interested in nature, small villages etc., otherwise close to Almeria.

Casa cómoda pero muy descuidada sobre todo los baños q tienen las duchas hechas polvo , la limpieza no es su punto fuerte tampoco y tened cuidado porq firmais por ai OS pasais con l aire OS lo cobran aparte, la zona d playa q vas andando son todo piedras mejor ir a otras calas y la piscina cierra a medio día así q no t puedes refrescar

Usted no se quejó durante su estancia y lo había hecho así que habría enviado un limpiador para inspeccionar el apartamento y rectificar sus preocupaciones. Por desgracia, perdió un juego de llaves y estos son cargables. La piscina cierra durante un corto período cada día para que el guardia de la vida tome un descanso. Las piscinas cercanas están abiertas todo el día. La playa es una mezcla de zonas de guijarros y zonas de arena. Es una playa natural no comercializada típica de esta parte de la reserva natural de Cabo de Gata. Hay muchos bares y restaurantes en la plaza y Retamar. Si necesita más, la ciudad de Almería y la playa está a un corto trayecto en coche. Thank you for your review. I am sorry you felt the apartment was not as clean as you would expect. You did not complain during your stay and had you done so we would have sent a cleaner to inspect the apartment and rectify your concerns. Unfortunately you lost a set of keys and these are chargeable. The pool closes for a short period each day for the life guard to take a break. The nearby hotel pools are however open all day. The beach is a mixture of pebble areas and sand areas. It is a natural un commercialised beach typical of this part of the Cabo de Gata nature reserve. There are plenty of bars and restaurants in the plaza and Retamar. If you require more then Almeria city and beach is a short drive.

la verdad es que genial!

El año que viene si se vuelven a celebrar los campeonatos, volveremos a repetir,pues la zona es perfecta y está al nivel de nuestras espectativas.

The ancient Andalusian province of Almeria has 200 miles of virtually unspoilt coast line and lies in the south east corner of Spain. It enjoys the warmest and sunniest climate in the whole of Europe, with mid day temperatures in January averaging 69F to 99F in August. The sun shines here for 320 days a year making it a virtually all year round holiday destination. Retamar is a beach front development located on the wide bay that joins the Gabo de Gata with Almeria. It is a typically Spanish resort, a welcome retreat with quiet promenades and unspoilt beaches. It is an ideal location to explore the famous national park which is one of the few remaining paradises in the Mediterranean, where you can find the most wonderful beaches and coves you could imagine. It is very handy for the airport and only a 10 minute journey into Almeria city with its shopping and magnificent Alcazaba, an ancient Arab fortress.

Golf: Excellent facilities on the Alboran Golf Course. 18 holes, newly built for the Mediterranean games in 2005.
