Bed & Breakfast in a Mansion - Viterbo

Bedrooms 2
Space 807 sq. ft.
Property type chateau / country house
Minimum Stay 3 - 4 nights

About the property

The B&B Farinella, established since 1999, found its aim in bringing new life and preserve to abandon a wonderful country house whose structure kept wearing down rapidly.

We made the decision to restore and then open it to guests, up to six, who prefers to stay in a proper and fascinating old country house.

Our hospitality is way far different from the classical hotel one: we bring more familiarity as well as intimacy in our service. Inspired from and as for the classic Irish B&B, you can enjoy a different and more characteristic atmosphere: you’ll never wake up at the noises of traffic, more likely you could be awaked at birdies singing on the horse-chestnuts by the garden.

Finally, a chance for a different stay in the middle age city of Viterbo in a peculiar, charming and, last but not least, quiet environment.

Countryside and architecture, not to mention the wide garden laying by the country house: host to several old horse-chestnut among other trees, you can have there a promenade, rest on the benches, have a beer as well as read a book.

Exceptional stay

  • 5 of 5

We were the first guests to visit from this website so don't be put off by the lack of reviews. This place is special.

We have 2 holiday apartments in London and this is exactly the type of place we love - relaxing, comfortable and beautiful. We had a very warm welcome from Laura (Maurizio was on holiday) and she took great care to make sure we were happy throughout our week there. At our breakfasts she was always cheery and very willing to offer local info or to make suggestions of places to visit.

The house itself is dignified, clean and beautiful and our room (the pink room) was too. The furniture and decoration are extremely tasteful and there is a calming view over the countryside from the room. You could also stay in the chalet separate to the main house with its own terrace and this would be an equally good option.

The house is located on the edge of Viterbo and we drove into the town from there. The walk would have been perhaps 15 minutes.

Later in our holiday we were in more touristy areas and realised how reasonable prices are around Viterbo, especially for eating out. We never experienced a bad meal.

We particularly enjoyed the thermal baths and the Etruscan history in the area.

From Viterbo drive towards Bagnaia (directly east) on Viale Trieste to the suburb of La Quercia. Just after the AGIP station turn left on Via Capodistria past houses to the end of the lane.

The area know as the Tuscia is probably one of the lovelist parts of Italy still relatively unknow to the foreign visitor. It offers much to be discovered with unspoilt countryside, ancient towns and villages, archeological sites, natural parks and woods and lakes. Horsediving in the Cimini hills, excursion to the Etruscan and Roman sites at Ferento, Blera, Tarquinia, Vulci, Castel d'Asso and Norchia, visits to town such as Tuscania with is many churches, Calcata the artists's town, Civita di Bagnoregio "the dying city", Caprarola and the Farnese Palace, the monster park of Bomarzo, nature trails in Barbarano Romano, medieval Sutri and Vitorchiano are all to be enjoyed.

Then there are the lakes for water lovers: the smaller and wilder Lake Vico and Lake Bolsena with its islands and lakeside villages of Capodimonte, Marta, Gradoli and Bolsena itself.

Lake Bracciano is further south towards Rome. The sea is only 45 kms away and it is an easy drive of 60kms to the coast of south Toscany and the Argentario promontory. At the heart of the Tuscia there's the walled city of Viterbo with its medieval streets and squares and towers and fountains and the Papal Palace. Nearby are the hot sulphur springs of Bullicame, mentioned by Dante in the Divine Comedy. The Villa Lante in Bagnaia, one of the finest Renaissance gardens in Italy, the basilica of La Quercia and the Cistercian Abbey of San Martino are all in the neighbourhood. Further afield but under 2 hours drive from Farinella are the cities of Orvieto, Terni, Assisi, Todi, Siena, Perugia, Rome and Tivoli.
