Charming country mill with gentle animals and a great hostess
We had a wonderful time and would definitely return if we are in the area again. The gite was spotlessly clean, well maintained and nicely furnished. It was very comfortable. The weather was very nice so we made use of the outdoor patio. Isabel is very friendly and helpful. Her dad was visiting from Quebec so we got to meet him as well as her daughter Havana. They provided us with fresh eggs every morning for breakfast. This was a great base from which to explore Burgundy/Jura. It was a peaceful oasis to return to after a tiring day touring. We were always welcomed home by Diego...the friendly, gentle labradoodle
Relaxing week out in the country
Isabel and her family are excellent hosts, and we enjoyed our stay at their little farm very much. Isabel had great recommendations for places in the area to visit, on both warm days and on rainy days. We really appreciated having fresh eggs when we got there for our first breakfast, and the plum jam was amazing.
Our two-year-old really enjoyed meeting and feeding the animals every day, as well as playing on the trampoline, the swing set and the slide. And the salt-water pool provided a great way to cool off on the hot days.
The apartment is very well designed and beautifully decorated, with skylights that provide nice lighting throughout. (Isabel assured us that nothing was terribly expensive or fragile, so we were comfortable giving our kid pretty free reign.) The beds are comfortable, and the shower is excellent. We would have preferred a larger refrigerator, as we ended up preparing most meals at home. Having an outdoor grill was great, and we ate outside almost every night.
A very relaxing stay in a beautiful gite
Isabel and her family were amazing hosts for our week-long stay in a beautifully presented, well-equipped and comfortable gite. Our children (9 and 12) particularly enjoyed the zip wire, trampoline and the chance to make friends with all the animals on the island. We had a thoroughly relaxing time and certainly enjoyed Diego and Che's company. All in all a great week!
Lovely county getaway!
Tucked away in the countryside, not far from a small French village, this accommodation was just what we wanted as a country escape with our 2 young girls. The accommodation was in part of a beautifully restored old mill building alongside a small stream. My girls fell in love with the animals - ducks, chickens, goats and our course their lovely dog Diego. They were also kept entertained with the great play equipment. The apartment was very clean and quiet, and has everything you need for a comfortable stay, and the hosts were perfect - so welcoming and friendly. We weren't planning to do much touring, but managed to visit Beaumes les Messieurs, Louhans market, Chateau Chalon and other small towns within an hours drive from the gite. Everything was very quiet as it was mid winter, but charming none the less. I would definitely recommend this property to other families/couples wanting a quiet rural retreat.
Hello Kylie & Scott,
Thank you so much for your kind words! It was really nice to meet you and have you here at the mill. We sincerly hope you will come back again in the summer months.
Good luck with your new life in Australia!
Perry, Isabel, Havana and, of course, Diego ;-)
Great week in Burgundy / Jura
We are a family of 5 (children aged 11, 8 and 6) and we have just returned from our holiday here. We all had a wonderful time. The area is beautiful and Isabel, the owner, had many ideas and suggestions for days out, keeping both mum and dad and the children happy - we even went to a child friendly vineyard with a tourist train, family sized cycles to tour the vines, mini golf and a children's menu in the restaurant. The children also sampled the local grape juice whilst we sampled the local wine! The gite itself was well decorated, well equipped and situated in a tranquil location. It provides a taste of the real France for those who do not want to be in a tourist trap. The children really loved the pool (which is different to that shown on the photos - certainly bigger), the trampoline, zip wire and feeding Hugo the goat, Bob the sheep and the chickens. These animals are on a separate island accessed by a small bridge so if you don't want to get involved with them that's fine too! There is a dog here - Diego the labradoodle - who was delightful and so gentle we wanted to bring him home! We have travelled to France many times staying in gites but we have to say that Isabel was a brilliant host - she and her family really made us feel welcome. Oh, and the weather was great! We would love to return one day.
Stylish and charming place, perfect for kids
Our whole family, two adults and three kids aged 8, 11 and 16, really enjoyed our stay. The house, an old watermill, and surroundings are beautiful and incredibly charming. It has a small island full of animals and fishing places - simply perfect for kids. The host Isabel is so kind and helpful (and speaks English fluently).
We highly recommend this little pearl if you are looking for a charming house in the countryside.
Thank you so much for your lovely comments!
We really hope to see you again either in France or in Denmark ;-)
