Excellent! 4.6/5 -

35 Acre Santa Fe Estate
average rating of 4.625 based on 16 reviews

Wonderful Stay!

  • 5 of 5

what a spectacular place. Everything we needed was at the house. Beautifully furnished and

very clean. Gas grille for some great meals and wood to burn for cozy fireplaces and chiminea

at night. Amazing place for star gazing while listening to coyotes sing. An easy 15 minute drive

to the Plaza, and short drive to the Four Seasons for dinner and drinks and anything that you might want. I hope to return some day.

Nona and all her

guests thank you!

Nice Place, but not well maintained (River 'O Sewage and Lighting Issues)

  • 1 of 5

MAJOR SEPTIC PROBLEMS, We enjoyed our stay and the home is very nice, but it was not well maintained. We had 12 people staying at this place and paid a hefty fee per night. At that rate we expect the place to be well maintained and house kept. Amanda was very curt upon arrival.

Maintenance Issues:

Septic overflowed and stunk up the whole area, inside and out. The outdoor patios smelled like an outhouse. The sewage problem did not stop there. The sewage ran from the main house to the guest house and washed away the guest house patio stones. So guests had to haphazardly cross a raw sewage stream and loose stones. I would upload pictures if I could.

Over Half of the light switches did nothing.

Many indoor and outdoor lights did not work. The weather was nice for being outside on the patios, but were difficult to enjoy at night and with the sewage smell. Bar-B-Que'ing in the dark is very difficult. I think there were 12 outdoor lights and only 1 worked. For the kitchen bar lights 1 out of 3 worked, for the master bath sink 1 out of 2 worked, none of the lights in the toilet room worked, etc ..

Both handles fell off the laundry door and could be easily fixed.

The owner/maintenance man really needs to fix these things before guests arrive. It's not like one bulb was out, many were out. Someone just needs to try and check these before guests arrive. The septic needs to be pumped every 2 years, don't wait for it to overflow and then try to bring in a pumper on a Saturday while guests are there.

I tried dealing with the lighting issue with the property manager (Amanda Ortega), but she was not able to help.

House Keeping Issues:

None of the outside areas were swept.

Some of the Towells were mildewy and none distributed to bathroom/bedroom.

Some of the beds the sheets were not tucked in properly.

Description Issues:

The property is more like 3.5 acres, not 35 acres. You have neighbors all around. One of the guest house rooms has a full bed.

Minor Issues:

Small Common Areas for a 7 BR place. Guest House is not really next to the main house. It's ~100 steps away down the hill.

The Good:

Many of the rooms had beautiful sky lights to bring in sunlight.

Most bedrooms were very roomy with big beds.

Many very cool outside patio areas.

In Summary, You expect more when you are paying A lot per night. The maintenance/PropMgr/Owner made a mistake and should refund some money since I did not get what I paid for.

Perfect Christmas setting

  • 5 of 5

We wanted to tell you how much we enjoyed your home in Santa Fe. The accommodations were perfect for our family, each area gave all family members space and privacy. The 35 acres gave us plenty of walking options and with the snow several snowball fights. The 360 degree views are amazing and your furnishings beautiful. I especially enjoyed the art work. Amanda and Fred were so kind to come and bring us another coffee pot, fire starters, and put dirt on the road after the snow. Thank you so much and we highly recommend your property!

Great stay in northern Santa Fe!!!

  • 5 of 5

Walter was wonderful. We stayed at his property on 35 acres. Perfect away from everything spot to work on our newest book as well as close enough to go into Santa Fe for an elegant dinner. Truly, the NM Southwest - with views of the mountains and desert from every window. Each night we looked forward to having a fire in the kiva type fireplace. As Italians, we use fresh produce at every meal...the kitchen had all the kitchenware we required to prepare our breakfast and lunch. The house and views are every bit as beautiful as the pictures ....and exactly what is required for writing and creative thought. Thank you Walter.. We will return. Giuseppe and Diana

Beautiful stay

  • 5 of 5

I stayed at this house and it was a wonderful stay. The bedrooms are great, the house is well maintained and the housekeeper, Amanda, is a sweetheart. She is very helpful and made our stay special. I would go back anytime.

Nice house with beautiful views but lacking

  • 3 of 5

We are a group of 8 women who travel together every year and have been doing so for almost 10 years. This is the first year where we stayed at a home where expectations were not met especially for the price paid. The house was nice on a beautiful property with lovely views and patios outside of Santa Fe; however, we had a lot of issues/problems. We met the manager, Amanda, who let us into the house on a very warm day and none of the windows were opened so it was stuffy and not very welcoming, as if we weren't expected. The house was also not very clean which the manager told us was because someone else had just left? So why the cleaning fee? We requested a DVD player and Amanda told us she would bring it the next morning by 9am. That time came and went so I texted her and she said she had forgotten and would bring it the next day. We had multiple cleaning issues: There were no hand towels in the bathrooms, the liquid hand soaps were either empty or just barely filled. We asked for more and got some partially filled ones two days later. Some of the bath towels/kitchen towels had a musty smell and there was no detergent to wash them. When we asked for detergent and dish washing soap (which there was also very little of), Amanda told us she did not provide "personal" hygiene products. There were multiple burned out or missing light bulbs and light switches that didn't turn anything on. Dirty linens were piled up by the washer/dryer. Refrigerator and oven were dirty. We started to have ants the second day. You get the idea.

We reported a broken toilet on the second day of our long weekend and Amanda came by with toilet paper and a plunger two days later. When she realized there would be more work involved she said she would return but never did.

We are surprised by the number of positive reviews of Amanda as she was less than helpful, and actually defensive and rude to our group.

This could be a great property with better upkeep, cleaning and a little TLC.
