Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Gaucín - Los Pisos (CR/MA/00799)

2 or 3 bedrooms, bathroom, shower room, sleeps maximum 5

Beautifully renovated Townhouse upgraded to a very high standard and furnished accordingly. Registered with the Junta de Andalucia as a Casa Rural reference CR/MA/00799. Two double bedrooms on ground level with large bathroom. Large open plan living, dining and kitchen area on first floor with two traditional balconies together with large shower room. Spacious terrace room and large terrace on second floor with magnificent uninterrupted views south to the coast and Africa beyond. The terrace room has a comfortable sofa bed if required. There is a lovely wood-burning stove in the living area and heaters in each room making the house ideal all year round. The house is always immaculate being looked after by our neighbours in the village who are on hand if needed during your stay.

The house is maintained and furnished to a high standard and is a home away from home. Spanish television and a slection of free UK channels (including SKY News) are available as is wi-fi internet access throughout the house and terrace.

Local Activities: Gaucin is a wonderful location for bird watching being on the migratory route from Africa to Europe. There are two horse riding centres close by and organised walks take place regularly leaving from the village.

The river running through the valley is ideal for swimming, fishing, diving and generally exploring.

Festivals and Fiestas: A number of festivals take place during the year including the Semana Santa (holy week) processions. The running of the bull on Easter Sunday (a big highlight attracting large crowds).

The feria in August has a fairground, music and dancing.

Getting Around: Whilst car hire is recommended for exploring the locality it is not essential as we can organise taxi collection from the airports and local transport for day-trips etc. Once in the village all amenities are within walking distance.

About Graham Wood

I was born in Fife, Scotland. I am a chartered accountant and work as a company accountant in Dundee. I am in the fortunate position of being able to work remotely some of the time and able to spend this time in the wonderful village of Gaucin.

Graham Wood purchased this house in 2004

Why Graham Wood chose Ronda area

Having holidayed with family in the summer of 2004 we returned in the autumn to look for a possible holiday home. We chose this property because of its location high up in the village with the full Gaucin view. The house was in need of complete rebuild and finally ready in the spring of 2006. We have made the most of the property over the years with family and friends and it has been a home from home.

What makes this house unique

The views from the terrace are incredible and take the breath away everytime.

'Just writing to say how much we enjoyed our stay in your house.

The views were stunning and the house was extremely comfortable and tastefully furnished with all mod. cons.

We will certainly recommend your property to our friends and colleagues as we had such a wonderful holiday.' July 2006

'Just a note to express our sincere thanks for the use of your house. The house was everything we expected, and more, you seem to have thought of everything.' Sept 2006

'We´ve thoroughly enjoyed staying at your place and would readily recommend it to any friends intending to visit Spain.' May 2007.

Au sommet de l'Andalousie !

  • 4 of 5

Wonderful Holiday House

  • 5 of 5

The house was as advertised. It was clean and had everything we needed for our two week stay. The layout is unusual compared to what is normal in the UK. The ground floor has two large bedrooms and a bathroom. The first floor is open plan with sitting, dining, kitchen and a shower room. The top floor has a smaller room that can be used as a bedroom and a very large roof terrace with a shaded area, sunbathing area, tables, chairs and a BBQ. The ground floor bedrooms worked well for us, being much cooler and dark even in the very bright sunlight due to wooden shutters. We did not have any noise problems. The streets of Gaucin are very narrow, we did not drive to the house, but parked in a larger road some 100 yards away, this was not an inconvenience. The roads are steep in places, I have seen some people complain, the clue is in the name - its a white hill village. The local bars and restaurants were good, ranging from simple to sophisticated. Travelling to places like Seville, Jerez, Cadiz is easy, but takes quite a long time. We went to Gibralter, about 90 mins, it can be seen from the terrace. I would return if the opportunity arose.

Beautiful Village House in Beautiful Village

  • 5 of 5

Three of us had the most wonderful week in this very comfortable & pretty house in a glorious setting. It proved to be beyond our expectations & had so many facilities that it was like being at home. In spite of 30 degrees of heat the house remained cool & with the shade over part of the roof terrace it was never too hot to sit up there. That was our favourite place with incredible views & watching the eagles flying overhead & putting on a display for us every day. The centre of the village was only a five minute stroll away & all Graham's recommendations for places to eat & drink were good. Sitting under an umbrella enjoying delicious tapas & sipping vino blanco in a square filled with flowers & life couldn't have been any better ! We would definitely recommend this house & village & hope to go back again soon. Very many thanks.

Exceptional village house!

  • 5 of 5

I stayed in this village house with my neice for two nights in September. My only regret is that it was'nt for longer. I have rented several properties in Spain over the years, and this one was exceptional! Brilliantly renovated, attention to detail was second to none. Beautiful wooden shutters, excellent layout, and beatifully furnished. It really is'nt the usual rental. It was so well equipped, everything we needed in the kitchen, which was a first for me! The terrace was lovely, and the views amazing. It was a wounderful place to sit at night with a glass of wine. The position in the village was excellent, everthing within a short walking distance.

Gaucin is a stunning village, and my favourite by far! The views down the valley to the coast are incredible, especially when it's clear enough to see Gibraltar, and the Rif mountains of Morocco. There are some great bars and resturants in the village, and local shops to stock up from. Things to do around the village are numerous. Stunning walks, swimming, riding, to name a few.Theres a large book in the lounge provided by the owner, Graham, which has information about walks, places to visit, whats in the village, it's a mine of helpful information! What's nice, is that people who've stayed at the house have added their own suggestions, and comments on their experiances.

In summary, it's a fabulous house, in a fabulous village! Graham made the booking very easy to do, and at a very reasonable price. Theres help at hand with a contact in the village, but everything in the house works so well, I doubt you would need them! I would highly recommend this property to anyone without hesitation, and needless to say, I will be back!

Fantastic White Village Views

  • 5 of 5

We stayed here for five very enjoyable nights last November. The three-level apartment is well designed, well maintained, well appointed and modern – while blending in beautifully with the rest of Gaucin, a traditional white village. The bathrooms and bedrooms are furnished as a home. There is plenty of room for the kids to move, as well as lots of kids games and DVDs. We arrived after dark and were greatly relieved to find bread, wine, coffee and other basics waiting for us in the modern kitchen. It was then easy to find great quality local vegetables, beer and wines and to enjoy copying some of our favourite tapas.

The views from the rooftop balcony are spectacular – on clear days we were looking over Gibraltar to Africa. Gibraltar itself is about 45 minutes down the mountain, with Rhonda the same distance in the other direction. Both are great day trips, but take your own map or GPS - Graham leaves detailed instructions, but we found them hard to follow :)

We found Gaucin to be as friendly as it is beautiful. I will never forget the night in one of the bars when a local farmer came in with his own home made wine to share with everyone (and I hardly know any Spanish). We recommend La Fuente Restaurant, where we had a lovely meal, while Maria babysat the children for us (all contact details are provided in Graham’s book).

Car: necessary

The house is situated high up in the mountain village of Gaucin in the Serrania de Ronda within convenient walking distance of all village facilities. Gaucin looks out towards Gibraltar and Africa beyond and the views from the house are particularly stunning. Ronda is 40 minutes by car and the coast and beaches 30 minutes. The airport at Malaga is 90 minutes away. The train station at El Colmenar is a 15 minute car journey away and trains run towards Algeciras in the South and Ronda and Granada to the North through beautiful countryside. There are numerous golf courses on the coast. The coastal resorts of Marbella, Estapona, Sotogrande etc. are easily reached as is Gibraltar. Tangier in Morocco is easily reached by fast ferry from Algeciras and is a wonderful day trip. Seville and Granada are just over two hours away. The village has a number of small supermarkets and other shops. There are also plenty of bars and restaurants all within a short walk away.
