Great country location

  • 5 of 5

We spent a very enjoyable five weeks at this cottage in March and April. The accommodations are commodious for two people and very clean and comfortable. The setting is great for people who like the country, beautiful pastures and big live oak trees with Spanish moss. The area around the cottage is nicely landscaped and the pastures with the horses give a larger attractive setting. Jim and Patricia are very helpful, gave us a nice balance of privacy and visiting. They went out of their way to provide us with information and responded quickly to any questions or requests. The pool is beautiful and well maintained and was warm enough for the latter part of our stay. It is necessary to drive twenty minutes for good shopping but I-75 which is about two miles away gives high speed access to Gainsville, a nice university town, and to other parts of Florida.

This area of Florida is very unique. We had never really liked the highly developed parts of Florida but this turned us into possible future residents. The cottage is located in the middle of the thoroughbred horse country between Ocala and Gainsville where there is a staggering number of wealthy farms, huge expanses of groomed pasture, countless miles of classic wood fences, and many mansions and palatial horse stables. The live oaks are towering everywhere, scattered in pastures and forming arches over back roads. The best way to see the countryside is on a bike and there is a network of small roads near the cottage where you can ride with sometimes not seeing any vehicle for ten-fifteen minutes. There are also two towns nearby, MacIntosh and Micanopy, that rank at the top of old fashioned oak treed, Spanish mossed Florida towns. And there are numerous crystal clear springs with many spring run rivers for kyaking or canoeing within an hours drive.

We recommend this place very highly for people who are looking for a beautiful, quiet country location. If anyone wishes to rent here and has more questions about what to see and do in the area we will be glad to make suggestions.

Great introduction to Florida!

  • 5 of 5

We moved from New York to Ocala and spent a few weeks in this delightful cottage until we closed on the new house. Our hosts were wonderful and made us sure that Florida was meant for us. The cottage was very comfortable and the animals a delight. We would certainly recommended this to anyone who needs an extended stay - so much better than a motel room!

Enjoyable Stay

  • 4 of 5

The cottage is located in a quiet rural area convenient to both Ocala and Gainesville. The property is well maintained and the grounds are quite attractive. Patricia makes a real effort to meet the requests of her renters. Numerous state parks, preserves, forests and trails as well as the Florida Greenway and the Ocala National Forest are an easy drive away. We had an enjoyable stay. Jim and Janet Stewart

A hidden gem! Wow! A lucky find!

  • 5 of 5

Wondered across this listing by accident - a lucky accident! What do I say? The hosts were great, the setting sublime! Enjoyed the donkey and would return just to see him again. I had business in the area and this was very convenient to both Gainesville and Ocala. Will recommend this to friends and wish to return again! Clean, quiet restful place.

What a lovely place - we will be back!

  • 5 of 5

Friends told us about this place and they were right - it is a wonderful place to vacation! We rode our bikes, walked the quiet neighborhood, went to an amazing restaurant and enjoyed visiting the nearby small towns. Both the Gulf coast and the Atlantic are within a days drive.

Our hosts were great and thought a great deal about our comfort. The horses are beautiful and enjoy carrots and visitors. The dogs are precious. The quiet was so restful. Had no problems with the internet - seems fast.

Do not rent part 2

  • 1 of 5

To further my early post; the location is much to far outside any nice restuarants or really anything at all. The internet here although you will be upcharged $50 a month (even though they list that its included) is very spotty and constantly kicked my computer and devices off. The power here goes out at least once a day, so much that they will tell you not to leave your electronics plugged in. I had to use my personal hotspot and ran up my phone bill an additional $30 a month. They have no washer dryer and supplied me with smelly/musty towels and linens. Which I was really glad I had packed my own sheets and towels. The tv is like 12' which is really hard to view from the futon couch. The pool is attached to their house so even though you can use it, it feels more like you have to enter their property so I never did. The vacuum cleaner was spitting out dirt at me because the bag nor the filter were ever changed. I had to clean it out myself! All in all worst rental vacation ever!!!! By the way they kept my deposit!!

Owner's Response: Worst tenant ever. There are great restaurants around here. She seemed to prefer Wendy's from the sacks she left. We have never charged for internet and do not intend to. This is Florida's rainy season and power was out for a few hours on two occasions. The TV is 21 inches and is new. She brought her own 45 Inch TV with a special connection to movies. There is no washer or dryer and that is in the description. The sheets and towels were clean when she moved in. The pool is for use of the guests and some have used it. It is covered with a screen to keep out bugs. I have never had complaints about the vacuum cleaner before but will check it out. We kept her deposit as she left some expensive chase lounge cushions out in the rain and they were were ruined. The cottage is a non smoking cottage yet she smoked in it and it reeked of smoke (now removed) After being caught, she said she would not do it again yet continued to smoke inside the cottage. She would have drunken fights with her boy friend and physically beat him and then pushed him out of the cottage. Had to wash everything in the kitchen cabinets. Baked on food in the pans and even the self cleaning oven. Rip in antique quilt. Only charged her $200 as deposit which did not cover damage. Left some burn marks on furniture which will have to be retouched. We've never had this behavior from any other guests and hopefully will not.
