Overview

Photos and Description of this 2 bedroom holiday home in Ile d'Oleron

Meals, groceries and household products. Pets allowed

A glassed artist studio on three sides, separated from the sea by a narrow street and a small dune. Comfortable in all seasons, winter by a wood fire. Live among works of art, paintings and sculptures, punctuated by the sound of the waves and the birds in the garden, in a gentle and poetic decor. White wooden walls, a floor and a metal ceiling and colourful fabrics. To minimize the luggage you carry, the workshop is a 'mountain retreat': all food and household necessities are provided including meals and snacks in the freezer. The products are available and each is responsible for maintaining stocks. Leave your car behind and walk to the market, the village or the beach. For peace of mind, I will help you prepare your sports and tourist activities

Suitability:
  • Low Allergen Environment
  • children welcome

  • smoking allowed

About Martine Rousset

As a former painter, I have worked in different fields, such as engraving, exhibits and at the Historical Monuments in Paris. Currently, work in a new medium less acrobatic than painting atop scaffolding: the "Digigraphie" a digital equivalent of lithography (you will find information on this new art form in the attached link of my email). Living in the region for the last fifteen years, I have a second workshop in La Rochelle. I teach painting and applied arts.

Martine Rousset purchased this house in 2003

Why Martine Rousset chose Ile d'Oleron

I have known the island in all the seasons for a long time. I chose a sheltered location alee of the winds for living the sweet winter days in the garden or on the terraces. I prefer the sheltered sea view which does not allow outdoor living so frequent. I also chose this beach for its variety of sand and flat rocks. As the workshop is being fixed, I had to settle for the last available land strip that stretches over 100 m. The workshop was designed with the least possible amount of walls to reduce the separation between inside and outside.

What makes this house unique

Another of my requirements was to live protected from traffic noise. The alley is away from traffic. The soothing waves and bird noises, is immediate and all around. The area has retained its natural, antique charm.

A truly enjoyable and relaxing experience!

  • 5 of 5

We stayed as a young couple (both students) in Martine's villa for a week in spring.

The villa is spacious and furnished with delicate artistic taste. It is very comfortable with plenty of cozy spots, bright and sunlit and has anything your may need during your stay.

The area is an ideal place for a holiday. The villa is buried in verdure while a wide white-sand endless beach is just in front of it. We enjoyed ourselves a lot taking advantage of the morning low tides and going to the sea to collect mussels and oysters. Furthermore, a market situated nearby offers a marvellous selection of seafood including the famous Ile d"Oleron oysters of different types.

Martine is a very pleasant, kind, helpful person and host. She picked us up with her van, helped with our luggage, showed the area around and her villa and remained exceptionally helpful during our stay. As we did not have a vehicle, she even brought us to the ferry and helped with our luggage on our way back.

We had a truly enjoyable, relaxing and peaceful time and would like to thank Martine once again for that!

Très Charmant Séjour

  • 5 of 5

The home is just like its hostess: warm-hearted and artistic ! The sea edged with a wild beach, in 30 metres, the countless ballades on foot or in bike in the middle of marshes or grapevines, the port villages, and decorative internal coloured, timeless (particular honour in the bathroom's paving) are so many trumps which made of our vacation's week a bunch of very pretty memories, an invitation to peace =) Thanks for Evrything

  • 5 of 5
