Overview

About the property

In the middle of a magnificent landscape, located on “The Queens Route” from Ålesund to Geiranger, you will find Urke, a perfect place for an extraordinary and peaceful holiday. This region has, for more than a century, been an inspiration for tourists and artists. The site is stunningly beautiful with the majestic mountains circling the fjord, constantly changing in character with changes in light and weather. From the cottage there is a panoramic view to the fjord and the mountains.

The cottage, which is designed by an architect, is superbly adapted to the steep terrain. Running along the front of the cottage, there is a large terrace facing south. Part of the terrace is covered by a glass roof. From the livingroom and all bedrooms there are doors opening out to the terrace, and the kitchen have sliding doors to the sitting / dining area under the glass roof. There is also a small covered patio to the southwest.

The modern architecture has elements inspiered by older Norwegian building traditions; the visible beams, the turf roof and the stone wall in front. The long narrow shape is inspired by the old long-houses. The cottage was built in 2009-2010.

The cottage is situated 500m from the fjord.

A boat with outboard motor will be at your disposal, included in the rent.

The livingroom has large windows with panoramic view towards the fjord and mountains. Built-in fireplace, sofagroup, dining table with 8 chairs, internetconnection, TV and DVD.

The kitchen is well equipped with everything required for cooking and dining. It has a hot-air stove, microwave, 2 refrigerators, dishwasher, coffeemaker , electric mixer. Large worktop gives great workingspace and sliding doors from kitchen to terrace allows for outdoor cooking and barbecuing. Floorheating.

Bathroom with floor heating, WC and shower. Cupboards and drawers for storage of toiletries.

The largest bedroom is equipped with a double bed. Two bedrooms have comfortable and spacy bunk beds (2+1) for three persons. Over the bunkbeds there are lofts with 2 mattresses each. The lofts can also be used for storage of luggage. In all there are beds for 8 persons and an additional 4 mattresses, all with duvets and pillows. All bedrooms have good closet space.

There is also a wardrobe at the entrancearea by the kitchen.

Laundryroom with washing machine, dryer, basin, freezer, vacuum cleaner etc. Floorheating.

About Torunn Thrall

We are a lucky couple who found the place of our dreams and had the opportunity to build the cottage. We spend as much of our time as possible at the cottage, but our normal day life with children, grandchildren and jobs are in Stavanger, in the south/west of Norway. Ole is a journalist and Torunn is working with visual art.

Torunn Thrall purchased this cottage in 2010

Why Torunn Thrall chose Orsta

Ole is originally from Aalesund. For years we have spent every summervacation in the area, visiting friends and family and travelling around to see all the wonderful nature and spots. The first time we came to Norangsfjorden, we were totally stunned by the nature, and decided that if ever a summerhouse, this is the place. Two years later we saw an advertisment about the site, and we bought it unseen. Luckily the site has a wonderful view, and our summerhouse, designed by an architect, gives you a panoramic view to the fjord and the mountains.

What makes this cottage unique

The nature in the area and the view to the fjord and the mountains is just fantastic. All our guests have been stunned by the beauty. The cottage is close to many of the most spectaculare tourist attractions in Norway.

Maison moderne dans un cadre idyllique

  • 5 of 5

  • 5 of 5

This house is wonderful! It is big, clean, light and it has large windows and a huge terrace facing the fjord and the mountains. The views around are terrific! The road to the house (we were driving from Oslo) is all the way fantastic and picturesque. Our company of 7 people had a very good 1-week stay in the house, enjoying every minute of this peaceful and quiet place. Although the weather was not so warm in the beginning of May (around 10C), we loved our stay and would love to return one day, maybe this time in summer :)

  • 5 of 5

"The house was every bit as good as expected. The surroundings were breath-taking and the house designed so that none of the fabulous view was "lost". The cottage was in a quiet location and very well equipped with a small but very adequate store close by. The climb to the house, on a well kept road was easy by car. It may have been a little taxing on foot for some elderly people. We thoroughly enjoyed our time in the cottage and hope to return to this exceptional place."

Wunderschönes Ferienhaus in traumhafter Landschaft

  • 5 of 5

Vielen Dank an Thorunn

a perfect house in a beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

The advertisement really can't describe this wonderful house and the beautiful surrounding landscape! We spent 3 weeks at Thrallheimen, mostly on the huge terrace or in the living room with it's large windows, both with spectacular views over Norangsfjorden. Inside and outside the house we found everything we could think of, there even was a Weber-Barbecue. Everything was clean and comfortable. The communication with our host Torunn was very pleasant (her paintings around the house are really wonderful!). With the boat that lies in the small marina at Urke we went into Hjorundfjorden, we had wonderful hikes starting at the house, we went to see the glaciers of Jostedalsbreen, had a passage on Geirangerfjorden, went all the way up Trollstigen and into Alesund and and and.... The best was an evening at Union Hotel in Oye, where we had the best meal ever served to us! We really can't thank Torunn enough for very special holidays and do recommend Thrallheimen to everybody else!
