Rose Cottage Guest House

  • 4 of 5

My husband & I stayed at the Rose Cottage Apartment right after Christmas until New Years Day. It's a wonderful apartment. It is within walking distance to the middle of town and the main thoroughfare - Lauren's Street. The bed we found to be very comfortable. The pillows were outstanding! It's one of the first places we've stayed that didn't have feather pillows, which are always so mushy. There is a Keurig coffee machine, which is also another first for us. This we found to be a very good experience. There were already a few different pods there (regular coffee, de-caf coffee & hot chocolate)...we did buy some flavored de-caf pods for our stay. We weren't a fan of the washer/dryer combo machine. There was an instruction card on top of the machine which we didn't find helpful. We found the owners manual to the machine & read that which wasn't overly helpful either. We were trying to operate the drying function of the machine only. It wasn't an easy task. The air conditioning was on when we arrived...it was unusually warm & humid during our stay. There is a musty smell that is immediately apparent when you walk up the stairs. I did read in a previous review someone else wrote about this as well. I think the apartment is very clean, so I wouldn't say the smell is from lack of cleaning. I'm thinking the combination of an older building & the many beautiful antiques in the apartment may have something to do with it??? I can't be sure. As I said, we had the A/C on the whole time we were there. We had a couple come visit us prior to going out to dinner one night while we were there and they noticed the smell as well. We are planning to move to Aiken sometime in the next couple of years, but we will keep visiting until we move here permanently and we would stay in the apartment again.

Rose Cottage Antique's ...Apartment.

  • 3 of 5

This property is located over the owners Antique Store. There was not much privacy as the owner was present most of the time. More simular to a bed and breakfast without the breakfast! There is an alarm on the apartment which is disarmed before you arrive yet beeps very loudly each time the apartment door is opened or the antique shop door is opened. The apartment was decently furnished. It had a wonderful flat screen television with extreme high definition. The beds were a little hard. The refrigerator is new but almost unusable due to the location, the doors will barely open enough to squeeze a dish into the frig. The apartment smells musky, needs to be aired or throughly cleaned. There were several antiques in the apartment that were great conversation pieces. The towels were plush and very much appreciated. The tap water was undrinkable or use able for making tea. The topper...the owner, conveniently forgot to tell us about a street festival that closed off our parking the last two days of our stay forcing us to park a block away, created noice all night long the night before we left and made packing the car to leave quite a chore. The owner obviously was well aware of the festival since he was involved selling wares. I would have appreciated a cleaner apartment, a slight bit more privacy and truthfulness from the owner concerning the inconvenience that would be placed upon us.

Owner's Response: We are sincerely sorry you were not happy with the apartment during your stay. We would have hoped you would have contacted us so that we could address those issues. We attempted to reach out to you when we read the review and there was no response to phone calls or email. In response to the privacy concern … I have never had a complaint regarding privacy. The reference to a bed and breakfast without the breakfast will be misleading to the reader since B&Bs have common areas like eating, dining, and living while the apartment is totally private. In response the beeping noise … I did discover that the door opening in the store will cause the alarm panel in the apartment to sound and I apologize for not knowing that and that it will be corrected. If I had known it was a problem, I could have disabled the beeping noise. In response to the bed comment … It is very difficult to select a mattress that will accommodate different taste in softness or firmness. The mattress is a $2,000 memory foam mattress that is less than one year old. In response to the refrigerator comment … The opening of the refrigerator with both doors open is 14 inches which seems to adequate for placement of items in the refrigerator. In response to the cleanliness comment … The apartment was thoroughly cleaned by a professional cleaner prior to your arrival. I keep the AC on during non-occupancy times to minimize the moisture in the air since we do live a warm humid climate. The comment implies there is a mold and/or moisture problems which there is not and is misleading to the reader. In response to the comment about the water … Although the taste of water is subjective, the water in the apartment is representative of the city water supply which has never been described as “undrinkable”. In response to the comment regarding festival … About a month before your arrival, I sent you an email letting you know that your stay would coincide with a street festival. The intent of your comment implies I purposely did not inform you of the festival which is untrue and is misleading to the reader. My wife and I have worked very hard to provide a comfortable and enjoyable stay in our downtown rental. We been told by all our previous guests that they loved the accommodations and the proximity to the downtown area. Although we did discover the door beeping noise and could have been distracting, the remaining comments do line up with reality.

Unique Apartment

  • 5 of 5

Wanting to explore Aiken's downtown area, this apartment was ideal. Walking distance to downtown but on the edge of the downtown area (less traffic & noise). The apartment is very nice, clean with many antiques. The owners have done a great job with preservation of the original apartment and adding beautiful accents.

Wonderful Stay

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed this slice of heaven in Aiken, SC. We were in town for four days three nights and this place was perfect. The owners are very active and respond quickly to any question we had. There is plenty of room in this well decorated apartment. When traveling back to the area we will stay here again.

Wonderful Apartment

  • 5 of 5

This apartment was an ideal escape for the two of us to enjoy. We were commuting to Augusta for the golf tournament and stayed in Aiken to try something new. Aiken's downtown, an easy stroll away, is scenic and has many enjoyable evening spots. The apartment's location was quiet and peaceful. Everything in the apartment was very clean, neat and the antiques were fun to study. Additionally, the owner was easy to contact and extremely helpful. I would recommend this rental for anyone needing a pleasant and unique getaway to a town with much to offer.
