So cute! Very comfortable & nicely laid out
We had all our kids & their families come up to Foresthill for Christmas but we needed more accommodations. This was a perfect cozy option. Beds were very comfortable and between the wood stove & the ductless heaters everyone was nice & warm. Thank you for making it possible for all of us to be together for Christmas !
Still a great place to get away from it all
I stayed here in the summer of 2015 and again this year (2017). This is a great place to get away from it all. Comfortable master bedroom suite, fully stocked kitchen. The owners are incredibly responsive -- when I got there the large water cooler was empty, and they brought a replacement within a few hours.
A little slice of paradise!
Western States Trail Joy
Perfect location for enjoying a quiet weekend on the Western States Trail, in Foresthill or being close to Auburn. The house is comfortable - literally we all commented on the great sleep and mattresses! Michigan Bluff is not for everyone (my impression of some other reviews) that you need to understand the solitude of the area before planning a stay. But if you are looking to enjoy the outdoors, sunshine, and quiet relaxation this home is perfect.
Cute could use some maintenance
I was first surprised by the long-winding road. Not for the feint of heart. Made for a non-champagne participation at the wedding we attended! The overall stay was nice. The beds comfortable. The house was not in pristine condition could use better housekeeping. Lights not working, the dining room table was really wobbly and the smoke detector beeping in the middle of the night and then falling off the wall made for a challenging sleep. Many requirements about not losing your deposit but they did not seem to live up to their end. Don't ask for us to go the extra mile when you don't. I felt we left it cleaner than when we arrived.
I sent an e-mail to them about the things they could do to improve. The house clearly is under renovation with lots of putty on the walls not finished. i think they could use a new housekeeper, candy wrappers on the floor in the master? dirty shower curtains?
The view is delightful, the well-stocked kitchen nice although some outlets did not work so we all plugged into one outlet in the living room... The fire places are electric "fake" fire places so not a mountain feel.
You get my point. Had a great time but would have been nicer not to clean and do maintenance on my vacation
Comfy, Relaxing, Beautiful Cottage
My family absolutely adored the rustic yet carefully selected decor. The cottage was delightfully spacious and had lots of natural light. We all thought the beds were very comfortable. We appreciated the A/C and ceiling fans as it was quite warm. We enjoyed cooking breakfast in kitchen after picking up a few groceries and seasonings. Everything was neat and carefully laid out. The deck is a real attraction for its views. The town of Foresthill is 15 minutes from the cottage.
Just a few reasons why I am not giving 5 stars: Realized the hot water was out on the morning of our check out. We decided to work around this and I am sure the owner would have quickly taken care of this had I chosen to call for assistance. I would've liked to have been able to use the dishwasher but even if we had hot water, I didn't see any dishwasher detergent. Finally, the deck could have used a good leaf-blowing before our check in. We decided against having breakfast on it as we didn't have much time to put into dusting the outdoor furniture. I am aware these are mountains, it is the beginning of fall, and all that. I really don't think I'n a neat freak at all, but it really was quite dusty and we didn't want to deal with tracking it all back into the house.
Besides those few hiccups, we loved our stay and would certainly come back again!
