Good but needs a few improvements

  • 3 of 5

We thought that overall this is a nice rental, with a good location if you are looking to get away from the busy Lahaina side of the island. We had a problem with mice for the last couple days of our stay. The owners responded quickly with mousetraps but they did no good. The other negative at the current time is the fact that a whole subdivision is being built immediately behind the property with work beginning at 6:45 AM Monday through Friday. There were also a couple lights burnt out in the kitchen. The sofa has to be the lumpiest one ever designed by man and is not what you would call comfortable. Other than that the property was a good bargain for the price, in a nice neighborhood, attractive grounds, adequate parking, and the shower had plenty of hot water.

Owner's Response: Aloha, We so appreciated the call you gave us on the mouse and it was the first report of a mouse since owning this property since 2006. Very unusual as we have an insect and rodent contract to keep things at bay. On top of setting the traps- We contacted Terminex right away also and they responded as soon as possible ( which was your checkout day) they rebaited out door stations. We still have not caught a mouse- ( anywhere on site- so think he made it back to the field where he belongs. And we sealed the area behind toilet you thought the access might be. I Talked to all other guests and no one had had similar issue. I am very sorry to hear the noise is ongoing at the property behind us. We were told this was wrapping up in January and have had no other complaints. Sadly we can't control the county and their work hours. We agree that early hour is ridiculous. They had told us 9-4 when it was addressed but we thought they were past the noise and in the quiet phase now. I am so sorry! As for couch- the cleaners are supposed to update us on any furniture problems and I will remind them on checking those things and of course they should have replace any burned out lights. We spoke often- I wish you had mentioned the lights or couch being lumpy - when you were here or we would have replaced it during your stay. We appreciate your stay with us and apologize for the issues you mention. We love to keep our guests Happy and your feedback helps us do better. Aloha Kathy

Overall a pretty nice place to stay

  • 4 of 5

The apartment was clean and fairly well stocked. We planned to cook many meals in the apt but the location was not best for that. We ended up coming back for dinner and just stay for the evening because we didn't feel like driving back to Kihei or Lahaina or wherever. My husband and I agreed we both prefer the Kihei area over the north side (that's where we stayed 10 years ago.) This apt isn't very close to most the island has to offer.

The kitchen was pretty well stocked but basic condiments, cooking oils, seasonings, plastic wrap, aluminum foil, leftover containers etc would've been nice.

They only give a starter supply of toilet paper and garbage bags so be prepared to buy more.

The bed was decent. A little on the hard side but I ended up sleeping pretty good. The couch which was the only soft seat in the house was awkwardly uncomfortable. Each cushion bulged up and there was a major cave in between.

There was construction going on right behind the building so sitting on the back Lanai wasn't too relaxing. Lots of machinery noise, talking, music etc. Starting at 7:00am.

Also there is no AC so the apt was warm and muggy some of the time.

The beach towels and small cooler came in handy. The owners were quick to offer a lighter blanket when I asked if there was anything that wasn't so hot.

Overall a pretty nice place to stay but just thought I'd point out some of the negative characteristics.

Quiet apartment was perfect for our stay. It was cozy.

  • 5 of 5

Everything I needed for cooking was in the kitchen. The owners are very nice and are literally a phone call away. Thank you so much Rich and Kathy for making our stay such a good experience. Twin falls is only 10 minutes away which leads to the road to Hana and Lahaina is about a 40 minute drive so I’d say staying here was perfect for traveling all throughout the island.

Nice location, uncomfortable bed

  • 3 of 5

We enjoyed the proximity of this stay, but the bed was so HARD, it was troubling trying to fall asleep at night. I wish there would have been simple things like salt and pepper in the kitchen, but there was not. The internet went down a few times, (about 5 mins) but it always came back. The grounds were kept up nicely. The apartment seemed overall pretty clean.

Owner's Response: HI Ester, I am so sorry to hear of your discomfort. We cater to a lot of Europeans who like a firm bed but we keep on hand lofty toppers for those who like them softer- so if you would have mentioned this when you were here - we would have remedied that situation immediately! A good nights sleep is very important. Usually there is Salt and pepper in the kitchen. We put in the travel picnic type. In case guests like to take on th e road. Perhaps they were empty and cleaner forgot to put new ones in. I am so sorry for that tiny mistake. We dont keep other spices on hand as most people don;t want to use anything that has been opened. Again - If I'd known we would have also provided the salt and pepper right away. I will talk to my girls and make sure this doesn't happen again. As for internet service- We use the highest rated cable company in Hawaii- Spectrum and we did speak to you about it while you were here and we thought the problem resolved itself quickly. Our sincere apologies- we aim to please . Next time around always talk to the Owners asap if you have any needs. We would have done whatever it took to make your stay more pleasant. Aloha Kathy

It was as I expected, a comfortable place to shower and sleep.

  • 5 of 5

I much prefer the wet (east) side to the hot, dry, and crowded West side. The Puukoa rental was perfect for us. Bright and open apartment with all we needed to cook, sleep, and shower.
