Description

Photos and Description of this 1 bedroom holiday cottage in Faubourg Marigny

Larger than it looks. Brimming with charisma & walking distance to all the fun!

This bright little cottage is a bit of the Caribbean hidden away in the heart of the Marigny--which puts it pretty much close to everything. The bustling, up-and-coming St Claude Avenue is one and a half blocks away. The Avenue is alive with funky dive bars, art galleries, junk and thrift shops, and even theatres. Coffee shops are all around! In our opinion, the city’s coolest courtyard is Feelings Cafe D’aunoy--just 3 blocks toward the river.

The entire rest of the Crescent City is easily at hand. We are 10 walkable blocks from the French Quarter.

Mardi Gras? The Season begins just 3 blocks from here with the irreverent Krewe de Vieux and ends in the same spot with the Ste. Anne Walking Parade--where EVERYONE is in the Krewe and the bar is set sky high for costuming!

Jazz Fest? French Quarter Fest? Chaz Fest? Oyster Fest? VooDoo Fest? It seems that we have parades, 2nd lines and festivals one after the other in close formation. Or maybe you’re here for a convention. There are oodles of them here every year. The CBD is just minutes away by cab or Uber.

Restaurants abound. From funky/trendy to 4 star: running the gamut from run-down-your-arm juicy poboys, thick gumbos and firey crawfish boils to the finest dining at Commanders and Bayona: from Baccanal at the far-end-elbow of the Bywater to Maurapas or The Three Muses on Frenchman Street. But even in this lush landscape, it’s sometimes just right to eat at “home”. You’ll have a spacious, fully equipped kitchen here to rustle up a home-made meal. With the Food Co-op just a block away, you can conveniently “make groceries” for whatever inspires you.

We’ll have information on all the above including plantations and swamp tours and everything in between available when you arrive.

ABOUT THE SPACE:

You’ll just enter through the security gate with coded entry, walk down the lighted drive to find your cottage and deck in the back corner of our good-sized back

yard. The entire colorful house is yours. With 800 cozy square feet, you’ll have one bedroom and one bath with a large kitchen/eating area, living room, front porch plus a deck for morning coffee or that last cocktail before you call it a day. This out-of-sight hideaway can be just the reprieve you need from the abundant action of the Crescent City.

Parking is on the street and rarely an issue. If you don’t feel like walking (which is a great choice), bicycles can be rented in several places nearby (a great way to get around the city) with a bike tour enterprise located just across the street! Buses are found on St Claude and cabs or Uber are a call or app away.

The large back yard is shared with us. We live on site in the historic front house. We have a workshop across the space from you and we have two dogs who will keep us company. They do not come into the cottage and they are never outside without us. Chances are that you will meet them! If you’re not a “dog person” another spot would probably be a better fit for you. The entire outside area is well kept and, depending on the time of year, filled with foliage and greenery.

A laundry shed is located behind our house and we are happy to share it with you.

Smoking on the deck and the covered patio is acceptable.

YOUR HOSTS:

Your hosts are two sisters. Stephanie has an extensive and creative background in antiques and furniture refinishing while Marna has been busy for years rehabbing as much of the historic architecture in New Orleans as she can manage. While we’ll give you your space and privacy, we ARE on hand with hopefully helpful information--or help--if needed.

Cozy, Charming Cottage that's perfect for exploring NOLA

  • 5 of 5

I really can't say enough great things about Marigny's Caribbean Cottage! My husband and I celebrated our first wedding anniversary in NOLA and stayed here. It was convenient to great restaurants, a short 20 minute walk to the quarter, and so homey, there were times we would've been happy to hang out and enjoy the accommodations- I could go on and on. Marna and Stephanie were such sweet hosts (even though we never had the pleasure of meeting them). Highly recommended, we're already discussing when we can go back and stay at the Cottage again. We loved staying somewhere less touristy and experiencing the city more like locals. You will not be disappointed in this stay-- I hope you love it as much as we did! We can't wait to go back to our little hideaway!

Owner's Response: You two were SO busy--I wonder if that had something to do with us not bumping into each other??? You know that we love to hear our guests are having such a good time that they're planning to return even before they leave. Y'all were so sweet--thanks for the great words and come on back anytime!

Everything was just right.

  • 5 of 5

The Cottage was exactly what we wanted - close to everything, quiet, great neighborhood. It was roomy and comfortable inside, very well equipped for visitors to the city. Marna and Stephanie were gracious hosts and so accommodating.

The location is great, we walked everywhere. Within a couple blocks we found a grocery, market, restaurants, bars. The new streetcar line is about 5 blocks away. The cottage is private and secure, tucked away behind the houses.

The cottage is spacious and comfortable inside. We felt like we moved right in and made it home for our stay. We found all the comforts of home, and helpful info for visitors. The patio and yard were a nice bonus. The dogs were fun and unobtrusive.

We felt we made the perfect choice for or visit.

Owner's Response: Holy cow, Folks--we couldn't have said it better ourselves! Thanks for mentioning all the good stuff about the location. The new Streetcar really is a real plus for us--so close and it gets you both downtown and the French Quarter in minutes. Also, appreciate that you noted how spacious the Cottage is. It's so much roomier than the photos can tell. You know we'd love to have you back!

We loved this place! Great location-close to everything . Many thoughtful touches.

We were glad we did not have a car- everything was close! Great neighborhood restaurants-try Mimi's for dinner and Who Dat? for breakfast. This space worked very well- great bed, roomy working kitchen, easy to hang out. Loved having coffee and breakfast in the morning on the patio in the great private yard. It was so good to have this lovely calm quiet space to return to at the end of the day. Marna and Stephanie are great; thoughtful hosts. We look forward to coming back. I cannot recommend this place highly enough!!

Owner's Response: And we look forward to you coming back, as well! There is SO much to this city--someday maybe a second look? We're always happy when guests discover that a car isn't really necessary to get from the Cottage to anywhere in town you want to go. I'll thank you on behalf of the neighborhood, too. There are so many cool places locally--and when our guests support them, we all thrive. Come again!!

Quiet, relaxing, perfect location

  • 5 of 5

The Caribbean Cottage was perfect for our 2 nights in New Orleans. Since we had a short time, we focused on the French Quarter and Frenchman Street - Frenchman St is about 0.5 miles away, a quick walk through a neighborhood full of fun and colorful New Orleans houses. The yard was great and the small deck felt private and was great for coffee. (There's also a good breakfast place a few blocks away - Who Dat Cafe). Considering it was relatively close to the "party zone", it was very quiet at the cottage. Inside, the bed was very comfortable (like sleeping on a cloud) and all the amenities we needed were there. Stephanie and Marna were super nice and didn't intrude at all, just chatted as we came and went. All in all, a great place to stay!

Owner's Response: You certainly made the most of your brief stay! Thanks for mentioning all the great places (both in the neighborhood and just a close walk away) to the Cottage. And that bed is a dream come true! We definitely hope to see you again for a longer visit.

this is a wonderful cottage

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay here. The cottage is clean and bright inside. Marna & Stephanie are there on the property if needed, but not intrusive. The dogs are wonderful & sweet as can be. We really missed our dog Sherman, so it was nice to have them there. We did not have a car. We walked and took the trolly everywhere. It was a 10 minute walk to the French Market. About 5 blocks to the trolly. The co-op is directly one block to the left. It was nice to have a washer & dryer. Thank you both for having us. Lot's of hugs & kisses to your pups.

Owner's Response: Thanks for the thorough and kind review! You folks really made the city yours and definitely demonstrated that a car is NOT an essential when one stays at the Cottage. We really appreciate that you mentioned the local amenities--they are so convenient. We loved having you--and Beaux and Lisa Jane send kisses right back! Marna and Stephanie

Location

Car: not necessary

Coffee shops abound! The local Fresh Food Co-op is one block away and groceries can be 'made' at the Mardi Gras Zone just a few more blocks away. Funky dive-bars and craft cocktail watering holes are plentiful and within walking distance. Restaurants from fine dining (The Country Club, Feelings), BBQ (The Joint), to the uniquely quirky (Lost Love Lounge), Middle Eastern (Cafe Istanbul)...you name it. It's all here. Night life litters St Claude Av and the local gold standard of Frenchman Street is plentifully at hand. Art galleries. Even two theatres (offering small presentations, slam poetry and The Goodnight show) are up the block.
