Overview

About the property

Private Lot On 3.7 Acres - 2,950 Sq. Ft. with nice lake views

You will love this very nice 5BR, 3BA lake front house on a peninsula with 3 coves on the property! Easy access to walk right down to the lake. One of the coves has a rock shelf perfect for sun bathing, watching the kids swim, catching up on your reading, etc. Private yard with mature trees sits on approx. 3.7 acres in a beautiful, relaxing setting. House is located extremely close to Rough River State Park and a marina so you can easily enjoy activities there. The house is 'America' themed on the inside. You'll enjoy the granite countertops in the kitchen and the open concept floor plan with spacious living room, dining room and sunroom. The natural stone outdoor fire pit circle is great for roasting hotdogs, making smores, telling campfire stories and singing, or enjoy relaxing on the nearby porch with ceiling fan. And of course, you can fire up the gas grill for the perfect dinner. Admire the beauty of the trees and the lake from the hammock in the back yard. Downstairs is set up for all the kids to enjoy their own space too with 4 sets of bunk beds (3 in one room and 1 in another bedroom) and a full bathroom with a shower. There is also a love seat, recliner, ottomans and a smart TV downstairs. Furnished with families in mind, a queen sized sleeper sofa upstairs also adds more flexibility for your group. In the 3 bedrooms upstairs there are queen sized beds. Also upstairs are two full bathrooms. If you can't quite get completely away from work, the house is set up with a desk and internet access. You'll also find plenty of TV's for your entertainment. The house is fully furnished with dishes, kitchen supplies, linens, towels, hair dryer, iron, ironing board and supplies of toilet paper, dish soap, laundry soap, paper towels, trash bags, etc. We are excited to share our lake house with you and are sure you will love the privacy and beauty of this place. It's a jewel on the lake in a very desired place! You can't get in a much better location for lake activities and privacy at the same time! The views of the lake are beautiful and the amount of lake frontage on our property is amazing. You can take a long walk along the shoreline, which all borders our property. We have fallen in love with this property, and we think you will too! Enjoy the outdoor dining set, lots of outdoor seating, an outdoor sofa down by the lake with a fire pit and a fire bowl on the back porch. We've even added some stone "creatures" by the rock fire pit on the side of the house for the little ones to enjoy. We've also added some outdoor games - a horse shoe pit, corn hole boards and ladder golf (or hillbilly golf as some call it)! If you do not see the days you want, please call me at 502-599-6790. We have some flexibility in scheduling and may be able to move dates around.

About Melanie Douglas

Tom and Melanie Douglas are both from Bardstown, KY and currently live in Shepherdsville, KY with their family. They both worked for others for 20 years and are now working for themselves in multiple businesses. They have been investing in real estate over the last several years to start working towards retirement. Maybe someday this will be the retirement home!

Melanie Douglas purchased this house in 2014

Why Melanie Douglas chose Kentucky

They chose this lake house because they loved the rock shelf in the first cove. It looked like the perfect place to relax, enjoy the lake, anchor a boat, or swim, all in the safety of the coves on this property. The land is a perfect combination of open area, to enjoy that family volleyball game or water balloon toss, or to wander into the shade trees and enjoy the breeze off of the lake. More than any property they looked at on the lake, this one had the perfect lake access with an easy walk down (and back up!). The inside of the home is clean, beautiful and updated. Visitors will enjoy this property and all it has to offer indoors and outdoors!

What makes this house unique

We looked at lots of properties on the lake and found this one to be the perfect combination of lake access, a beautiful back yard and a beautiful house. All in such a convenient location!

Spacious and Quiet

  • 5 of 5

This nicely appointed home near the end of a long quiet road was the perfect spot for our large group (11 adults, 2 children). Everyone had enough privacy and there are enough bathrooms so that no one ever had to wait to use the facilities, even during the morning rush hour. We never ran out of hot water, although maybe that's because some of us showered before bed, and some showered in the morning. The bedrooms are roomy and the closets were large enough for all of our clothes. The beds were just OK. I would have preferred a mattress with more support. We found ourselves rolling to the middle of the bed, where there seemed to be a well-defined depression in the mattress. I didn't ask the other adults in our group how their beds were, but the mattress in the nautical themed bedroom could stand to be replaced, in my opinion. Another note. It took me several minutes to figure out how to get the cable TV stations to display on the TV in our bedroom. I probably should have called Melanie for a how-to, but I got it eventually, just make sure that the Cable Box icon is in the second position on the input menu, not at the top of the menu, then wait for it to come on. OK, enough of the griping. This really is a nice home. There are plenty of different seating areas, from a bright, vaulted-ceiling, entry area, with a fun swinging chair in it, to a basement TV/bunk-bed area, which the kids loved. The huge family-style dining table is fantastic. We all gathered around the table and ate together every evening, as we talked about the day and planned our activities for the next day. There is also plenty of outdoor seating in various locations around the property, so if the weather is nice, you should be able to find at least one "favorite spot". The kitchen is well supplied with everything you need to cook, from a bowl of cereal, to a 3 course meal. Outside is a big, beautiful yard that slopes gently down to the reservoir. The water is cool, clean, and inviting. Just beware, it drops off immediately, and the shoreline is mostly rock outcroppings. Perfect for diving though, if you first test the depths for hidden hazards. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay, and would have stayed longer if it hadn't already been booked for the days immediately following our days. Melanie was prompt with her replies by text, and we experienced no problems.

Wonderful house with great amenities on a huge, well-kept lawn with easy, lakeside access.

  • 5 of 5

This is our fifth year staying at a lakehouse in Kentucky. This is also the fifth house we've tried, and it is by far the best! We plan to return to the same property again next year.

The owner was friendly and quick to reply. Their list of check out duties only had simple, basic items.

The house was clean and well-kept. The photos and descriptions are accurate. It certainly lived up to our expectations. It was the first house that had a table big enough to accommodate our group. It also has a second fridge, which we were pleasantly surprised to find. We mostly enjoyed the many outdoor amenities. The lawn is huge and well-kept. It has a wonderful secluded feel. It has easy water access, right on the property. Tons off comfortable outdoor seating. We really enjoyed being able to play in the yard with the kids, and being able to walk our kayaks right down to the lake without leaving the property. The beach and the marina are both mere minutes away.

My only recommendation to anyone renting the house would be to wear bug spray, even during the day, especially if you plan to play outdoors as we did. Those of us who did that didn't have any issues with ticks. Those who didn't found several ticks on themselves throughout the weekend.

Overall, it was a wonderful stay! I'd highly recommend it to anyone, and we certainly plan to return!

Excellent quiet get away. House is very nice and well stocked with all the necesarry emmenities.

  • 5 of 5

We would like to thank Melanie for our visit to this lake. We thoroughly enjoyed our stay and only wished we would have booked a full week. The open layout of the house is excellent, the parking was ample for our large group. This is a very quiet, well maintained neighborhood with friendly neighbors. The wildlife is everywhere, we were visited by deer nearly everyday in the back yard, squirrels running everywhere and birds galore. We did see a small black snake that appeared to like the grill cover on the back porch, he simply went away when we showed up. We spent the majority of our time around the fire pit and on the front porch telling our fishing stories as there always seemed to be just enough of a breeze to keep the bugs away. This was our group's first time to Rough River lake for an annual fishing trip that we have done for the last 30 years. This was by far the nicest house we have stayed at, truth be told, as the first half of our group arrived on Tuesday and unloaded our supplies, we all managed to catch a nap within an hour of being there because it was so relaxing. We managed to catch some nice fish everyday as the lake was still filling up to normal pool levels. This is a late blooming lake as we learned, several business's were just opening up for the season it seemed. Fortunately, the house really has everything you need to make things enjoyable. The bedrooms upstairs are very comfortable, the bunk beds downstairs are better for the kids but in a pinch, an adult can survive. I will highly recommend this house as an excellent get away to anyone. The landscape is beautiful all around, including one the coolest displays of the American Flag at the highest point on the peninsula. It is huge flag and an awesome sight that can be seen from several distant points on the lake. Thanks again Melanie and my apologies again for napping while the umbrella was opened up.

2nd time as good as the first

  • 5 of 5

This is the second time our group has stayed at this place in February. Great place and very quiet at this time of year. Kitchen is well stocked for our groups need, this year we used the grill and half way through cooking we ran out of propane but there was a backup tank there and ready for use, owners think of everything. Owners are good to work with. Having wood for the fireplace is a great perk especially this time of year. We hope to be able to visit again next year. Wonderful weekend catching up with good friends.
