Built in 1850, this spacious, newly renovated farmhouse has a state-of-the-art granite kitchen, 2.5 baths, four bedrooms (one king with en suite bath, one queen, one double, one single, plus a futon in the living area), large living room, dining room, mud room, porch and gazebo on two pastoral acres bordering the Kinderhook creek. Wood and tile floors throughout the home, some original and restored. Even with its classic charm, the home has all the modern conveniences, such as Dish Network satellite TV, wireless internet, washer/dryer and local phone service. The home is furnished comfortably, and decorated with Berkshire charm. The kitchen is nicely stocked, and a large lending library is yours to explore.
The 2-acre plot is nicely landscaped, with paths cut through the small meadow to Kinderhook creek, a lovely path for families with children to explore. The gazebo is a great place to have coffee or read, while gazing out on the meadow and mountains beyond, in rain or in sun. Use the fire pit on summer nights to extend your enjoyment of the day.
If you like nature, pastoral settings, art, culture or adventure, the Berkshires are ideal. Situated between Ioka Valley Farm (with its barnyard, fall festival or maple season pancake breakfasts) and Jiminy Peak (great family skiing in winter or mountain adventure park in summer and fall), this house is in the beautiful Jericho Valley of the Northern Berkshires, with views of mountains and meadows all around. Within a picturesque and relaxing drive to Mount Greylock wilderness area, Williamstown (home of the renowned Clark Museum and Williams College and its Summer Theater Festival), and Hancock Shaker Village, it is also an easy drive to apple picking in Richmond, summer concerts in Tanglewood, historic Stockbridge and all of the Berkshire attractions. Even many of the great attractions in Southern Vermont, such as historic Bennington, scenic route 7A, Shaftsbury, are less than an hour away. Manchester with its great shopping, restaurants, Lincoln home Hildene and Mount Equinox summit drive, is about an hour north. In all of these day trips, the drives are lovely, with barely a traffic light in sight. In the summer, local farms stands abound, allowing you to enjoy fresh and often organic produce, berries, corn and maple syrup.
There are many lovely parks in Williamstown and the surrounding towns with easy and moderate trails (and several Berkshire hiking guides are in the house for your use). Several lakes are also nearby - Cherry Plain in New York, Onota in Pittsfield - but it is often not hot enough to swim. This house is ideal in summer, winter and fall.
A local property manager helps with any issues and ensures property is clean and maintained. Special consideration will be given to a winter season rental - our goal is to rent the home for the entire winter. Please inquire.
We are a family of four, we live and work on Long Island, NY, our kids are teenagers and we do not get up as much as we'd like due to their schedules. I work as an administrator at Hofstra University.
Melissa Connolly purchased this farmhouse in 2010
I love the historic house (but renovated) and the big yard with views to the mountains. And I love adventures, so I go ziplining, kayaking, hiking in the summer, drive to Vermont and explore stuff, antiquing, go to Tanglewood and sit on the lawn for an evening concert, the museums are great. I walk at the Clark Museum grounds or field farm or Greylock almost every day. And I love the beautiful drives everywhere and NO TRAFFIC LIGHTS.
The house is really well-appointed and decorated, homey, roomy - lots of space. I especially love the gazebo in the summer and walking around the grounds. Each room has photos and maps from the area - posters from the Clark Art Institute, photos of the mountains and Vermont and the Shaker Village nearby, Rockwell reproductions. Lots of blankets and books and movies for you to use.
The house was great for our vacation. Melissa was super helpful in our planning, and the house was lovely. Spacious feeling, well set up for what we needed, super fun to have a fire pit, swing, and beautiful and peaceful creek on the property. Good location - we love Mass MoCA and Tanglewood. We may well be back!
The farmhouse was accurately presented and we had an excellent stay. The house was clean and well equipped. The owner sent us a very informative email about the activities available nearby and was very hospitable about the house. There is a spacious garden to sit in with plenty of room for children to play. My children particularly enjoyed the access to the creek. Jiminy Creek was a short walk up the road and was worthy of a visit. There were plenty of hikes nearby and journeys to Williamstown, Stockbridge, North Adams and Mount Greylock were all straightforward from the vicinity of the house.
If you want to stay in a home away from home, this place is it. We went skiing at Jiminy Peak for a week and this place was perfect. It is a 2 minute drive to the mountain. The house is beautifully decorated and renovated and has everything you need. The pellet stove keeps the house very warm if you like it that way. I would recommend this place to anyone!
This house was lovely, charming, clean, and nicely renovated. Our family of six stayed here for a weekend of skiing at Jiminy Peak. It was a perfect. The house was immaculately clean and very comfortable, and well decorated. There is a pellet stove, for cozy evenings in front of the fire. The kitchen is modern and well stocked. Our kids loved all the games and videos provided. The shelves are full of amazing books. The owner was helpful, organized, and easy to deal with. We loved being so close to the slopes. Thank you!
We stayed here for our son's graduation at Williams College, and it was the perfect home in every way! We had a rather large group, and there was plenty of space for everyone, not to mention plenty of activities at the house to keep everyone entertained when we weren't on campus. My mother-in-law spent most of her spare time birdwatching, the kids and my husband loved exploring the creek, and we all had a great time sitting around the fire eating Smores while our Yorkie chased her ball in the massive backyard. I've been responsible for planning our family vacations with the in-laws every summer in numerous places for over a decade, and this is the first time everyone said this was their favorite property we've stayed at so far. Thank you Melissa for sharing your wonderful home, and I'll be in touch next time we're up at Williams!
Awesome house "away from it all" but yet close enough to have some really great day trips. House is large yet cozy and well taken care of. It has a beautiful backyard with a wonderful fire pit. It has all the modern conveniences yet beautifully historic. Our family had a great time there, and we loved the ski resort being right down the street. This resort is great in the winter or summer! I can't wait to go back this summer!
The Berkshires are a rural area of great beauty, trails, outdoor activities with a wide variety of historic and arts and culture activities. Best times to visit are fall and summer, with great skiing in the winter.
