Beautiful retreat in the jungle...

  • 5 of 5

This is such a wonderful place to spend a few days - very private, relaxing and with everything you need. It is about a 10-15 minute leisurely walk up from the main road where there are a number of restaurants close by plus the small Super Cocles market. Panaderia Frances is great for coffee and pastries in the morning unless you want to just make your own at the villa and enjoy it laying by the small pool. Tania and Henri were so friendly and hospitable but completely respectful of privacy. It doesn’t get better than this.

This place was exactly what we were looking for. We couldn't have picked a better home to stay in during our first visit to Costa Rica. Tania and Henri are extremely nice, attentive, and very accommodating, yet very respectful of your privacy. Their own home is on the same property, but the layout of the rental provides an atmosphere leaving you feeling like you're the only people in a beautiful place in the jungle.

The place is simple, almost minimal, but feels like home the moment you settle in. Opening all the doors in the mornings was one of our favorite things to do, allowing you to stay in bed and look out over the patio where we had breakfast every morning, and into the jungle where we could see and hear all the wonderful animal-life that exists in this amazing part of the world. Again, for us this home was perfect - it's not a luxury rental (some of the criticisms of other reviews in my opinion are just petty), but you feel like you're somewhere very special. It's a perfect place for a romantic getaway.

Also, the location is ideal. You're close enough to Puerto Viejo to get there in car and even on bikes in a matter of minutes. You're also only minutes away from some of the most beautiful beaches you'll find anywhere. During the week, huge expanses of beach can be almost your own.

We are already planning our next trip to Puerto Viejo to experience the most friendly people I've ever met anywhere, eat delicious local food, and experience our new found Caribbean paradise. We will definitely be staying here again when we do. Can't wait to be living the Pura Vida again and see our new friends Tania and Herni. I highly recommend this home to any couple looking for the perfect Caribbean getaway.

Quiet and private villa conveniently located

  • 5 of 5

We enjoyed our stay at Villaskasha. Tania welcomed us with fruits and coffee, and she was very accessible to communicate with. The house was very clean, the kitchen was equipped with basic amenities, and the pool was very refreshing. The property is on a quiet residential road, and is a good location to access the beaches, restaurants and markets. I recommend staying here!

Peaceful and Private

  • 4 of 5

I would highly recommend this place if you're looking for a place away from (but not too far from) the crowds and noise of the main street. Hearing only the wildlife of the surrounding jungle is delightful. Love the open air feel of the house and the plunge pool is perfect for cooling off. Even though the owners are on the property, they're very discreet about allowing your complete privacy. Walking to the beach and nearby shops is easy if you don't mind a little uphill climb on the way back. Really not bad, though.

A Must Stay in this beautiful well appointed jungle villa

  • 5 of 5

Waking up to the sounds of parrots and howler monkeys has reset my spirit. This villa has everything you need for a relaxing stay. It's very private but close to everything. Our host we're very accomadating and will suggest beaches, tours and restaurants. This is our 6 trip to Costa Rica and 3rd trip to Puerto Viejo. I would definitely come back to Villa Kasha and definitely recommend to others. 2 weeks was not enough. Pura Vida!!

A Nice View, But a Stressful Stay...

  • 3 of 5

Things that are nice:

We recently stayed in this property for 10 days on our trip to Costa Rica. This little house is situated right next to the owners home and a fifteen minute walk away from the Beach and the Supermarket, a twenty minute walk away from bars and restaurants, making it a great place if you want to have access to the Caribbean lifestyle without needing a car or a taxi when you want to go somewhere. The house is also surrounded by beautiful trees and animals (birds, monkeys, etc.) can often be seen from the balcony.

Things to improve:

There were no food basics in the home, meaning no salt, pepper, flour, oil, etc. This meant that on our first night we had to buy all of these things in order to actually be able to cook, these items rarely come in travel size so it was a bit expensive to buy these things for the 10 days we were there. We stay on many trips like these and they are usually included.

There are no washers or dryers on site, they were in the owners home and it was actually a service you had to pay for at the cost of 10$ US per wash cycle. We felt this was very expensive so we only washed our sheets, towels and a bit of clothes once after a few days and it cost us 30$...

Expect bugs, because there are no screens on any of the windows and the bugs are attracted to light.

The Real Issue:

The home is just a few years old but not everything works perfectly. The shower barely spouts water, because all of the holes are blocked by mineral deposits. Same thing with the the kitchen faucet.

On our third day we tried washing some of our own things in the bathroom sink and the sink stopper got stuck in the pipe when we pressed on it to stop the water, we didn't use force or anything, we used it quite normally. By the scuff marks on the stopper, we could tell this was a recurring issue and many people had tried unblocking it with knives to get it unstuck before. When we told the owners, they got angry and said this had happened before, but they wanted us to pay to change it...

We are nice people, we would never break anything in someone's home, we just used something normally and it got stuck. We refused to pay for something that was poorly designed. They eventually said they wouldn't charge us and the plumber told them they needed to change it anyways. But, this made the stay tense as we were afraid to use anything after that. We feel this issue was handled poorly by the owners and it made us feel stress during our vacation.

Owner's Response: Dear Stefany thank you for take a time to leave a review; you have been unpleasant and have looked for problems shortly after you arrive. In the house there is always salt of pepper and sugar. We also welcomed you with a basket of fruits, coffee, mineral water and orange juice. The full refrigerator is not in our charge! The first day you complained about the texture of a kitchen towel!?, which was new and that I kindly change you, the second day, what a surprise!when you appeared on the threshold of my door with all the sheets and towels wrapped in a ball! ,saying That you were allergic to the laundry product, while it was antiallergic, besides you had kept the beach towels that were washed with the same product. Each day you came to us to derange us for nothing.I remind you that you rent a house, not a hotel with a concierge service at your disposal 24 hours a day.I helped you for everythink you asked me:call taxi day or night, recommendation restaurant and beaches, organise a snorkeling tour ...etc.Know it's a pleasure for me to help my guests and i do always my best. Everything works perfectly in the house, everything is checked before each arrival, and you did not say anything, it is only after damaging the sink, you tried to fix it by yourself instead to call me, that you have begun to complain about the tap. the sink you have force on the cork (which your friend confessed to me during a conversation) which was pressed and which required the instantaneous arrival of a plumber to repair. We took the repair to our charge to avoid any discussion. Sometimes there are bugs but you are in the jungle and you had a mosquito net and a products for the far away at your disposal. I was patient and poli with you all the time.. We receive many people during the year, and everything goes very well , People go away happy.Sorry that this was not the case with you To conclude, for us also your stay has not been pleasant, fortunately that your friend tried to appease your tension a little for me and know that as a host I do not recommend you. regards:Tania
