3 bedroom, 2 bathroom finca offering total peace, yet close to all amenities

Peacefully located inside remote-controlled security gates,on the outer edge of a typical Spanish village, and overlooking almond orchards (blossom in late February), designated national parkland and the Tramuntana Mountains, designated a UNESCO World Heritage site. Ca'n Barraca was an 18th century farm building which has been lovingly restored and stylishly furnished to the highest standards. We have gone to considerable efforts to preserve the natural rustic charm of the building, meanwhile providing modern touches to enhance the level of comfort afforded across the seasons.

Outside, the property is situated in an elevated position, which affords a spectacular viewpoint across natural parkland, almond and carob orchards, to the Tramuntana mountains beyond. Our guests enjoy numerous sunny or shady spots around the gardens and pool area - everyone seems to find their own particular favourite.

The situation of the finca ensures peace and tranquility, whilst being within walking distance of the village, with its typically tiny local supermarket, post office, bank, pharmacy and several bars. Five minutes' drive away is the neighbouring village of Calvia, with a 12th century church, several good cafe/restaurants, and a Monday street market. From here it is another 5 minute drive to the highway, and easy access to Palma and the rest of this wonderful island.

We are now lucky enough to have a 5* Spa and Wellness resort, with Michelin starred Restaurant Zaranda at Castell Son Claret, within a kilometre of the finca.

Inside the property, there is spacious accommodation for 6 people. Upstairs accommodation comprises: 3 bedrooms, each accommodating two people, with extensive wardrobe space, orthopaedic mattresses on the beds, and fans and/or air-conditioning. Duvets, electric heating and heated mattress covers are provided in the winter months. Our Master bedroom (with king-size bed) has satellite TV, and a private terrace overlooking the mountains. The second king-size/twin bedroom has a Juliet balcony overlooking the pool and surrounding countryside, and full en-suite bathroom. The family bathroom has a large glass shower cubicle and whirlpool bath. The third, rather smaller bedroom, is ideal for children, having full-length twin beds. Mains water to the property passes through a water softener, which serves the supply to the kitchen (with the exception of the filtered drinking water supply) and utility room, and all the bathrooms.

The TV gallery has a large flat screen TV, and satellite reception for English, French, Dutch, and German channels (amongst many other languages); guests are invited to bring their own satellite cards to receive additional favourite channels. There is a DVD player and library of films. The TV gallery is also equipped with complimentary WiFi, and a printer/fax/scanning machine, for guest use in conjunction with their own laptop computer or tablet.

Downstairs: The living area is spacious, with terracotta floor tiles and wooden ceiling beams, and a spectacular oval window which looks through to the outside dining area and the pool and mountains beyond. The 18 inch thick walls keep the room wonderfully cool in the summer months, and help to insulate during the colder months. The large living room is split-level, with separate sitting and dining areas, and is comfortably furnished, having focal points of 2 working fireplaces.

The modern, fully equipped luxury kitchen has granite work-surfaces, filtered drinking water and a comprehensive range of appliances. A Utility room with washing machine and dryer, bread-maker, ice-maker, and drinks fridge, adjoins the downstairs cloakroom, with WC and hand washbasin.

The private pool lies within secluded gardens, with vivid flowering plants, and fruit trees (lemons, apricots, figs and pomegranates) in season. There are several terraces for sun/shady aspects; outside dining areas in sun and shade, and a splendid Weber gas barbecue.

Ideal for peace and tranquility, but with easy access to beaches, cultural attractions, night-life and sporting venues, Ca'n Barraca is available for rental throughout the year, and provides an ideal base for careful guests to enjoy golf, painting, photography, cycling & hiking, or simply relaxing at the finca and exploring the rest that Mallorca has to offer.

We are happy to negotiate discounts for smaller parties, and for stays of 2 weeks+. Extra cleaning services are available at cost by arrangement with the property manager.

Winters in Mallorca provide an ideal opportunity for exploring the island during the quiet season. However, it should be noted that we do not typically enjoy the warm, dry conditions of Southern Spain. Indeed, for the past two or three years, we have seen falls of several inches of snow in February/March time! Although we generally have a large number of wonderful sunny days - ideal for golf, cycling, painting, hiking, or simply enjoying the local cafe culture under vivid blue skies and in very comfortable temperatures, it should be remembered that visitors who are troubled by arthritic or respiratory conditions may not be well-suited to the Balearic climate during the colder months.

Whilst treading the expatriate route for 26 years, and moving house 30+ times around the Middle East, Far East and Switzerland, it was wonderful, while our children were growing up, to be able to escape to our beloved finca during the school holidays, and to invite family and friends to join us there where we could instantly relax in our home-from-home, and were almost guaranteed perfect holiday weather conditions. Now based back in the UK, Ca'n Barraca continues to provide us with the perfect family holiday venue throughout the seasons - with something for everyone within easy reach, and all the comforts of a real home.

The stunning views from the terrace, across the almond orchards to the mountains beyond never fail to impress our guests, and the view changes throughout the day, as the sun moves across the landscape. Now both married, our children enjoy entertaining their own friends at the finca, and it has become a favourite with so many guests who return year after year. We now look forward to many more happy holidays there with our grandchildren.

The finca provides a supremely comfortable home throughout the year, with the promise of peace and quiet in which to relax, yet within easy reach of the rest of the island. Spectacular Views and Accommodation

We arrived at the end of January for a two month extended holiday to a fantastic array of almond blossom in the field below the property, blue skies and sunshine on the terrace facing Mount Galatzo and two lemon trees loaded with lemons. Can Barracca has several terraces so always somewhere to sit to enjoy the surrounding mountain scenery. The house is fully equipped with every imaginable household item so very much a home from home feeling. The local village which is a five minute walk has two tiny supermarkets, three restaurants two of which are really good, a pharmacy and a cash machine. A five minute drive away is Calvia with more restaurants and a market on Monday morning. Our holiday couldn't have been more perfect and should you need anything during your stay there is a manager on the end of the phone who responds very quickly to your needs. We are hoping to return to this beautiful location very soon.

Great place and gentle people!

Everything was perfect. Facilities very realy great. And such a nice place in nature nearby small towns and hiking places. It is not easy to find such a place! And we got really great support when there was electrical shut off. Thanks for the help to Mahel and Hugo! And to Alison for creating such a nice place.

Picture-book paradise

Ca’n Barraca is a perfect haven of beauty and calm. We stayed for the winter and were at home immediately. There are thoughtful and pretty touches everywhere in the house: a library of hiking books, a comprehensive house guide, a fantastically equipped kitchen, a working office, and (very importantly) outdoor seating nooks for BBQs and lounging in every kind of weather. The views are straight of a picture book. We picked flowers, pomegranates and lemons in the garden. We watched winter storms tear across the mountains in the distance and lambs gambol in the blossoming almond orchard. We started several beautiful hikes right from the house. The local bars are fantastic (Bar Nou is an institution). We drove to the nearest beaches within 15 minutes and to vibrant Palma within 20. Nadal the gardener kept the garden and pool impeccable and Mahel the house manager responded quickly to all our needs. Thank you Alison for a chance to stay in such a special place.

"This fantastic house is a private paradise. Lovely village location and extremely peaceful. The house and garden are well laid out and it is tastefully decorated inside. The garden is idyllic and well maintained with beautiful views and no vis-à-vis. We were hard pushed to drag ourselves away to enjoy the rest of what the beautiful island of Majorca has to offer."

"This is the most perfect Villa, a piece of heaven! Surrounded by stunning views the location is ideal, close to the airport and other towns but far enough away to experience traditional Mallorca. The pool is beautiful with more than enough sunbathing space for everyone (very important!) With two dining areas outside and a dining room inside you are spoilt for choice. There is a fully equipped kitchen, with two fridges so you can fit the whole weeks shop in. The bedrooms have ample space to unpack and loads of coat hangers... the attention to detail in this property is spot on! We had the most wonderful week here, it’s a very special place and I wish I was there now!"

"I have been here before and yet again I had the most perfect days away. Leaving an extremely stressful job, I disappeared to the most idyllic villa. Perfect rooms. Amazing pool. Stunning village and incredible view. I couldn't of asked for anything more. We cooked amazing meals. Drank rose on sun loungers. Read books. Went to random towns for drinks. Everything was stunning. The house was absolutely perfect. The bedrooms were great. Such cool decor and it just worked so well. I would recommend this villa to everyone and anyone."

The national parkland surrounding the village is renowned for birdwatching, walking and cycling. Ca'n Barraca was renovated from an ancient farm building about 20 years ago, and has been furnished and comprehensively equipped with great thought and care to maintain its rustic charm, whilst providing the advantages of modern living and comfort in all weathers. Nevertheless, if you enjoy sleek, contemporary, high-tech living, this property may not be for you! We are delighted to invite guests to enjoy the property when we are not 'in residence,' but do ask that this much-loved home is treated with the greatest care and respect. Our property manager is pleased to be on call for any problems during your stay, either in or outside the property. Our check in/out times are strictly 15.00 / 10.00 to accommodate 10 man-hours of cleaning inside and out between guests. Times can sometimes be relaxed off season. A full electronic handbook for the finca is provided on receipt of full payment, with arrival/departure instructions to meet the property manager for check-in/out.
