About Kauai Vacation Rentals

It all began with a vision. A desire to share the magical island of Kauai with the world. And, founder, Lucy Kawaihalau, has dedicated her life to that goal through Kauai Vacation Rentals. "In a vacation rental home or condo, you really feel like you're living here," reflects Lucy, "so bringing together home owners and guests to achieve the 'best fit' is only a part of our distinguished reputation. Our responsibilities are twofold. For our owners, we provide the best management and maintenance services so they can rest easy, knowing their homes are meticulously cared for, since they may be thousands of miles away from their investment. For our guests, we believe they should be treated like royalty." And, it is the respect for the guest that gained Kauai Vacation Rentals recognition throughout the world. A friendly team dedicated to serving the needs of guests, with attention to all the details, makes it all possible. "A vacation to Kauai is so meaningful," adds Lucy. "For some, it may be the trip of a lifetime. For others, it may be a yearly event. This is a splendid place to relax. Our guests are 'energized' when they go home. That's what we mean when we say, 'magical Kauai.' " This genuine business model embodies the Hawaiian word, 'Aloha,' and it has gained much recognition within the industry and business venues, including numerous awards. Many glowing articles have been written, from Kauai Business & Real Estate Magazine, Hawaii Business, and internationally distributed Travel & Leisure Magazine to famed Fortune Magazine. In fact, Lucy Kawaihalau was personally honored with coveted awards from the Small Business Administration and Kauai Chamber of Commerce for her successful business achievements. Lucy concludes, "I am deeply grateful for our recognition and awards. Yet, it is the phone call, with heartfelt and glowing remarks about a visit to Kauai from a satisfied guest that brings us great joy. Therein lies our greatest achievement."

Great ocean views, very clean, but needs updating and more privacy

  • 3 of 5

The property was immaculately clean, had pretty much everything we needed in the kitchen, and plenty of indoor and beach towels for us to use. 6 of us stayed for 7 days in the home. Overall it felt pretty secure with an alarm system and door/window locks, and an available locking cabinet for valuables.

As others have noted, while it’s clean, it’s in need of updating. The house is a late 80s/90s style, has various styles of area rugs throughout the living area, does not have any AC, and relies on the ocean breeze. The house did cool down pretty fast when we opened all the windows but it’d be nice to have had some AC in the bedrooms.

The house is on the ocean with access to a beach, though the area immediately out the back of the house drops to rocks in an ocean pool. The pool is surrounded by rocks which keeps the area pretty calm so it’d be great for kids to play in. The view from the lanai was amazing each morning with the sunrise!

The central location made it easy for us to get around the island.

The only drawback is that immediately next to the property is a beach with direct road access. Locals use this area to set up camp and can be seen and heard, as this area is no more than 20 feet away from the house. If they had been respectful of this distance it would have been fine, however we were woken up on multiple occasions to adults screaming at each other at the top of their lungs at 6am. This really took away from any serene moments and any attempt to wake up leisurely. While it never escalated to us needing to call the police, I emailed the property owners to ask about this through the app to see if it was expected, and I never received any response. The property should be updated with better privacy between the house and the beach area, perhaps with more trees and brush. Since closing the windows was not an option as it’d be too hot, we had to deal with this throughout the trip. When one family left, another came, and we probably had 3 sets of campers setting up tents, grills, and parties throughout the week.

Not too shabby

  • 4 of 5

So we recently stayed in the house for 7 nights. My toddlers, 2 and 3, shared one room, husband and i bunked in the queensized bed downstairs, next to the kids and my parents took the master upstairs. A few things i wish i had known. The lot Nextdoor is a public beach, if you get out there early, you can get your spot locked in for the day. It can get a lot of traffic, especially at night. While we did meet some very nice locals we did have a few partiers come down and blast music and smoke ‘something’ that wasn’t cigarettes. We left the porch lights on at night to deter anyone from ‘exploring’ our property. The house itself needs a couple of small repairs. The screens were loose or falling out in some places. The rungs on the lanai need to be checked and hammered in better, as an unattended child could easily push them out. The furniture is not the coziest, could be updated. With all that being said, the location is lovely. I went for a sunrise jog every morning. When it is low tide there is plenty of beach for playing and exploring for hours. My kids both would always ask to go back to ‘our beach’ if we ventured somewhere else on the island. The rocks in front of the house gave the right amount of protection for the kids to enjoy the water and still have waves. We literally spent hours each day climbing through the tide pools, looking for shells, checking out fish, etc. when it is high tide, there really isn’t any beach in front of the house and you have to go to the lot nextdoor. The management company was great making sure our needs were met while we were there too. Kitchen was well stocked with enough stuff to get by. Garage had a ton of fun beach stuff, we left a couple beach toys for kids too. All in all, I’d def stay there again, but would hope they could make a few updates as mentioned above.

Lovely building and location

  • 5 of 5

My family, four adults and two 9-yr-olds, really enjoyed our stay. Accommodations and supplies were perfect. The waterfront is so cool with the natural lava rock tide pool, lots of wildlife to see, coral to collect. Saw a whale breach right by a rainbow on the horizon! The mid east shore is a great spot to travel from for day trips.

There is a park next door that has a fair amount of traffic but we met a lot of interesting locals, cute kids to play with, fun to watch them snorkel and fish. One family showed us an octopus they caught (and released). This is my second visit to this house, I will come back again some day.

this property is older and has not been updated

While it is right on the water, the interior of the house, furnishing, and accessories are dated and of poor quality. Needs a renovation to be worth the rent.

Amazing- just that simple!

  • 5 of 5

The property is lovely- fantastic location, amazing you can be in the water in your backyard, the windows show beautiful sunrises and sunsets & the kitchen has everything you’d ever need. They even have boogie boards, chairs & water shoes! Having the washer and dryer was critical. Just can’t say enough about how awesome this vacation was and this house was integral to everyone- adults and kids- having a great time.
