About Steinunn Sigurdardottir and Thorsteinn Hauksson
We are both natives of Iceland. Thorsteinn Hauksson (www.hauksson.com) is composer of modern/classical music and also specialist in electro acoustic music, studied at Stanford University. Steinunn Sigurðardóttir (www.steinunn.net) graduated from University College Dublin. She has a long standing career as novelist and is frequently translated. She is also a journalist, who has worked mainly for radio and TV. We are back in France, Strasbourg after 7 years in Berlin. Thoristun remains a favourite place of ours, and we love to stay if the villa is vacant during the low season. It is an ideal place for northern light watching, from late august onward.
Steinunn Sigurdardottir and Thorsteinn Hauksson purchased this Villa in 1997
Why Steinunn Sigurdardottir and Thorsteinn Hauksson chose Selfoss
We bought the architectural pearl of Thoristun 19 in 1997. Every year we make improvements and renovations. For instance, all the sleeping rooms are recently renovated, with new luxury beds.

Very inviting. The main room is spacious, and kitchen well equipped. The Villa is located near the Golden circle and Thingvellir park, in a tranquil quite neighborhood.
Amazing Positive Experience
We had a wonderful time and the Villa made our trip that much much more enjoyable. Great communication from the owner, they also provided local information which was helpful. The Villa was clean, organized and it was a pleasure to stay there.
House was perfect for our stay in Iceland. We were 2 couples so we had plenty of room in the house. Washer and dryer are helpful after we figured out how to use them. A bit of a challenge, directions for this these would be helpful. Otherwise the owners were very accommodating for our stay sending great directions on how to find the house as well as contact information for them and local care takers. They provided area maps and restaurant and shopping directions as well. I felt Very confident about our stay and we're pleased with the very comfortable accomadations!
The two of us enjoyed our stay, helped a lot by neighbor and house manager Halla, who found an acupuncturist for my sore back and even took us to visit her nearby horse farm and family brewery. The house is a short walk to very good restaurants, and day trips to fantastic scenery and hikes were easy. The house is as advertised, and it is to be noted that it has no microwave. But the kitchen is otherwise amazingly well equipped. Just provide your own paper towels. The washer and dryer work fine, but only if you read the English language operating manual. The entry is a bit dark, but once you get up to the main floor it has plenty of windows. The master bedroom bed could use a new mattress, but overall the house was comfortable and we're glad we stayed there for five nights at the end of over two weeks in Iceland.
