About Steinunn Sigurdardottir and Thorsteinn Hauksson

We are both natives of Iceland. Thorsteinn Hauksson (www.hauksson.com) is composer of modern/classical music and also specialist in electro acoustic music, studied at Stanford University. Steinunn Sigurðardóttir (www.steinunn.net) graduated from University College Dublin. She has a long standing career as novelist and is frequently translated. She is also a journalist, who has worked mainly for radio and TV.

We are back in France, Strasbourg after 7 years in Berlin. Thoristun remains a favourite place of ours, and we love to stay if the villa is vacant during the low season. It is an ideal place for northern light watching, from late august onward.

Steinunn Sigurdardottir and Thorsteinn Hauksson purchased this villa in 1997

Why Steinunn Sigurdardottir and Thorsteinn Hauksson chose Iceland

We bought the architectural pearl of Thoristun 19 in1997. Every year we make improvements and renovations. For instance, all the sleeping rooms are recently renovated, with new luxury beds.

What makes this villa unique

Space, privacy, elegant proportions, comfort, good taste, the original art on the walls. Proximity to best known tourist attractions in Iceland, such as Geysir, spectacular ancient Parliament site Thingvellir, the black sand of the Northern Atlantic, and short walking distance to gourmet restaurants and all services.

Please do not hesitate to contact us, by email or telephone, in a variety of languages.

Pleasant stay

  • 4 of 5

The two of us enjoyed our stay, helped a lot by neighbor and house manager Halla, who found an acupuncturist for my sore back and even took us to visit her nearby horse farm and family brewery. The house is a short walk to very good restaurants, and day trips to fantastic scenery and hikes were easy. The house is as advertised, and it is to be noted that it has no microwave. But the kitchen is otherwise amazingly well equipped. Just provide your own paper towels. The washer and dryer work fine, but only if you read the English language operating manual. The entry is a bit dark, but once you get up to the main floor it has plenty of windows. The master bedroom bed could use a new mattress, but overall the house was comfortable and we're glad we stayed there for five nights at the end of over two weeks in Iceland.

"Nice house, well located in a nice town. We uncovered, in a week, a small part of this beautiful country. We were dazzled by the beautiful landscapes. We keep an excellent memory. The choice of the house has much done."

Selfoss offers unique possibilities for spectacular excursions. You only have a 10 minute drive to the black sand seashores of the North Atlantic, 1 hour drive to the famous and very active volcano Mount Hekla and the uninhabited, wild interior. Selfoss is half an hours drive from Thingvellir, a place of incomparable beauty - the historic Parliament site from the times of the Sagas. Only 70 kilometers away are some of the most renowned sightseeing spots in the country, The Golden Waterfall (Gullfoss) and the geothermal area with the one and only Geysir. Half an hour’s drive away is Hvolsvöllur and Fljotshlid, where Njal’s Saga takes place. In little more than an hour you can reach the spectacular attractions of the south coast, with glaciers, waterfalls and very impressive and varied cliffs. You can make a one day excursion to the national park of Skaftafell, surrounded by Europe´s largest glacier, and the famous iceberg lagoon, Breidamerkurlon, where you can sail amidst the icebergs.

Other Activities: Half an hour drive from Thingvellir, the historic Parliament site from the time of the Sagas
