Guestbook comments from the manager

Cheri, thank you so much for arranging our stay at this cabin. It was everything we were looking for and we loved the cabin very much! We are a couple of old Camp Nelson guys who wanted to come back and just enjoy the peace and tranquility (and fishing!) of the forest. The only recommendation we would have would be having directions for the CD player. Other than that, it was perfect! We will definitely come back!

Quiet Cabin

  • 3 of 5

Nice clean cabin but no wifi , no Television . No way to get ahold of anyone if needed . Luckily other family members , who rented other cabins had all of the above . Other than that , we had a pleasant stay . Thank you

Quaint cabin in the middle of a national forest.

  • 5 of 5

We had a great time! Camp Nelson is beautiful, tiny place in the Sequoia National Forest; there's no cellphone signal of any carrier, there's no wifi anywhere (that we could find), but frankly that doesn't matter at all. It's an excellent place to unwind, forget about the hurries and stress of everyday life. It's quiet, cold, easy to move around, the sights are wonderful. We wholeheartedly recommend it.

Advise: No signal means no google maps (or Apple Maps if you're into that); so if you want to find your way around, use a completely offline mapping app, or an "old-school" gps device, untethered from online services.

The Bark Cottage

  • 5 of 5

Our family get-a-way to Camp Nelson over Easter weekend exceeded our expectations. The cozy cottage was so welcoming. The kids enjoyed the days hiking and evening playing board games. Wonderful family time, DVDs and s'mores! Thank you Cheri.

Located in the Sequoia National Forest, 3 hours from the National Park, we have hiking, mountain biking, fishing, camping, several Giant Sequoia Groves to view, as well as Trail of 100 Giants 40 minutes away. 20 minutes up to the Ponderosa area at 7200 foot elevation, Dome Rock is an amazing spot to have a picnic and view the entire Sierra Nevada Mountain Range and offers world class rockclimbing. During the winter months, enjoy cross country skiing and snowmobiling at 7200 foot elevations.

Camp Nelson is a small historical logging town located at approximately 5,000 foot elevation and has amazing hiking in the summer and fall months. The Nelson Trail is a very popular hike that meanders along the Tule River, Boulder Creek and a Giant Sequoia Grove. It travels approximately 4 miles to Ponderosa at 7200 foot elevation. The Redwood Grove Trail begins out of Belknap Campground and is a beautiful hike through the Redwood Grove of Giant Sequoias, joins the Bear Creek Trail and ends up in the Coy Flat area. It is also a popular mountain bike trail.

Take a 1.5 mile walk down to the Belknap Campground and stroll along the Tule River, enjoying several Giant Sequoias along the way. Fishing is very popular and the campground is small but very lovely.
