This restored general store is a luxurious oasis. The sky-high ceiling, bronze detailing and brand new kitchen, dining, and living space is sure to help you relax and rejuvenate!

With 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths, this home is perfect for 6-8 adults plus children, with its 2000 square foot downstairs apartment.

(Add the Upstairs Apartment, and comfortably fit 22-23 guests in 6 bedrooms with 4 full baths.)

It's like renting two whole houses, with an adjoining (lockable) door at the base of the stairs! Perfect for groups who want to share, but still have privacy.

(Upstairs remains unoccupied and locked, unless also rented by the downstairs guests.)

Rate: $225 per night (main floor) ($250 Memorial weekend to Labor Day) Sleeps 10-11

Rent the whole building for $380/night ($405/night during high season) Sleeps 22-23. *Simply book the downstairs online, and include a note that you want the Upstairs as well. Or request a quote...)

Take a step into this once thriving General Store and be amazed by the original elevator that once brought goods from the basement storage up to the store level. Though not functioning anymore, this historic architectural element has been frozen in time during the latest remodel.

About Deborah

Originally from the St. Louis area, I lived in Petersburg from 1998 to 2013. The first time I drove into town looking for a home to buy, the 'Old Petersburg Operahouse' was for sale. Having majored in music many years ago, the old building sent out a siren call for me to buy it! I've been buying and rehabbing in town ever since. In 2011 I opened The Cottage for vacationers. It was a very slow start, and I wondered if it had been the right decision. But soon the Creation Museum guests started arriving--I love my guests! What a joy to interact with these Christian families (many with lots of children :), who are kind and thoughtful...and take care of my home! It was obvious right away that a vacation home offers a much-needed alternative to hotel rooms...most of which cannot accommodate the larger families. Also, the ability to cook your own meals instead of eating out can save money. (And doing a little laundry during vacation can rescue you from a mountain of clothes when you get home...;-) I hope you enjoy the adventure of staying in this historic general store...

My youth group loved it!!!

Very clean, beautifully decorated, spacious, and welcoming. We stayed here while visiting the Creation Museum and the Ark Encounter. When I asked some of the kids what was one of the things they like best about our trip- they said staying in the house (store). Would highly recommend. :)

We loved it and had a great time!

We visited for 2 nights with our church group and had an excellent stay. There were 17 of us and we had plenty space and everything we needed. The kids loved getting out in the evenings and walking to the river or the playground just down the road.

Beautifully decorated

The house was much more than we ever even dreamed. It was a good place for a jumping off point for our other excursions in the area. It was so nice to come in at night and cook a meal and have the space to sit and talk about the day. We would definitely recommend this property to anyone going to visit in the area.

Big Family Getaway

Our stay at the General Store was part of celebrating my mother's 70th birthday. There were 16 in our party, and with ages ranging from 14 months to 75 years, including six young children. We were looking for a place that was close to the Ark Encounter yet would have space to for us all to meet, relax and enjoy one another's company. We found that and more at Deborah's General Store. The kitchen and living room areas were so open that there was plenty of space for us all to share a meal, play games or just sit and talk. Petersburg is so quiet and quaint that the children could play right out front with skateboards and squirt guns. The short walk to the community center playground was ideal. We also enjoyed quiet walks down to the riverside. With a group this size having a kitchen that was stocked for cooking and serving big meals plus nice laundry facilities was a tremendous blessing.

The linens, rooms and bathrooms were very clean and comfortable. I never got that uneasy feeling you get in a hotel when little ones crawl around on the floor. It didn't feel like a rented room. It felt like home.

Thanks Deborah, Wanda and whole staff. We will come again!!
