About Deborah

Originally from the St. Louis area, I lived in Petersburg from 1998 to 2013. The first time I drove into town looking for a home to buy, the 'Old Petersburg Operahouse' was for sale. Having majored in music many years ago, the old building sent out a siren call for me to buy it! I've been buying and rehabbing in town ever since. In 2011 I opened The Cottage for vacationers. It was a very slow start, and I wondered if it had been the right decision. But soon the Creation Museum guests started arriving--I love my guests! What a joy to interact with these Christian families (many with lots of children :), who are kind and thoughtful...and take care of my home! It was obvious right away that a vacation home offers a much-needed alternative to hotel rooms...most of which cannot accommodate the larger families. Also, the ability to cook your own meals instead of eating out can save money. (And doing a little laundry during vacation can rescue you from a mountain of clothes when you get home...;-) I hope you enjoy the adventure of staying in this historic general store...

FABULOUS

  • 5 of 5

This was our 3rd trip to the General Store. My grandsons love it there. They didn't want to leave. Deb was more than gracious to modify my travel dates when I realized we had a conflict with Easter Plans. It's a quiet and peaceful little town. The kids enjoy riding bikes without worry of traffic. I rent often on VRBO, much better than hotel rooms. The General Store is a great find for a vacation destination.

The General Store

  • 5 of 5

Great place to stay with family. Close to The Ark and The Creation Museum. The General Store was spacious, clean, and just great to stay at. We had snow which was an added plus from me ( we do not get enough in Texas to play in). Would recommend this hose very highly!

Impressive!

Our family was really "wowed" upon entering this building. It is so well kept and comfortable for several people. My daughter is already looking into renting another one of these guest houses for a future trip. Just very, very nice :0)

The "General Store" was a true gem! Our group rented the upstairs and downstairs and it allowed for privacy, fellowship, and fun the entire weekend. We loved it and will be back!!

Beautiful space with plenty of room for our 5 families.

  • 5 of 5

We had a wonderful stay here. The separate upstairs was a fabulous space for the kids and adults. Great layout for everybody to have enough space and not be crowded on top of each other. This house is decorated with comfortable Furniture, beds and lounging areas. Felt like home away from home. Had plenty of plates , glasses, utensils and cookware for large families. I can't say enough about this wonderful house. It was close to the Creation Museum and the Ark encounter. I would recommend this place a hundred times over.
