This restored general store is a luxurious oasis. The sky-high ceiling, bronze detailing and brand new kitchen, dining, and living space is sure to help you relax and rejuvenate!

With 3 bedrooms and 2 full baths, this home is perfect for 6-8 adults plus children, with its 2000 square foot downstairs apartment.

(Add the Upstairs Apartment, and comfortably fit 22-23 guests in 6 bedrooms with 4 full baths.)

It's like renting two whole houses, with an adjoining (lockable) door at the base of the stairs! Perfect for groups who want to share, but still have privacy.

(Upstairs remains unoccupied and locked, unless also rented by the downstairs guests.)

Rate: $195 per night (main floor) ($250 Memorial weekend to Labor Day) Sleeps 10-11

Rent the whole building for $350/night ($369/night during high season) (Upstairs AND Downstairs $350-$369/night, 4000 sq. ft. Sleeps 22-23. *Simply book the downstairs online, and include a note that you want the Upstairs as well. Or request a quote...)

Take a step into this once thriving General Store and be amazed by the original elevator that once brought goods from the basement storage up to the store level. Though not functioning anymore, this historic architectural element has been frozen in time during the latest remodel.

About Deborah

Originally from the St. Louis area, I lived in Petersburg from 1998 to 2013. The first time I drove into town looking for a home to buy, the 'Old Petersburg Operahouse' was for sale. Having majored in music many years ago, the old building sent out a siren call for me to buy it! I've been buying and rehabbing in town ever since. In 2011 I opened The Cottage for vacationers. It was a very slow start, and I wondered if it had been the right decision. But soon the Creation Museum guests started arriving--I love my guests! What a joy to interact with these Christian families (many with lots of children :), who are kind and thoughtful...and take care of my home! It was obvious right away that a vacation home offers a much-needed alternative to hotel rooms...most of which cannot accommodate the larger families. Also, the ability to cook your own meals instead of eating out can save money. (And doing a little laundry during vacation can rescue you from a mountain of clothes when you get home...;-) I hope you enjoy the adventure of staying in this historic general store...

Perfect!

This place was so perfect for our family. Bigger than the pictures show with all the amenities we needed. We would definitely come back and stay here again.

4 Adults/7 kids/3 nights - Creation Museum & Ark Visit

  • 5 of 5

I have rented multiple times from VRBO and this was by far the smoothest and easiest I have encountered. Deborah provided detailed descriptions of what was available and even provided video footage of grocery stores to make planning easier. The General Store was very clean and well maintained. One of the things that our group loved is that the location is one block from the Ohio river so the kids were able to skip stones into the river for hours. We also enjoyed the quiet little town and the playground that was 2 blocks away. We are already talking about a future visit and recommending this to friends. Pick this one your wont be disappointed!!

Another Great Weekend!

  • 5 of 5

We had an awesome time staying at the General Store again this year! We had 18 people stay there in the upstairs and downstairs. Accommodations were great again! Plenty of space for all our needs. Also, large kitchen with plenty of extras. Our teens loved it! Thanks Deborah!

Pretty, comfortable, great location

  • 5 of 5

The rooms are bigger than they appeared on the web site. So pretty. So comfortable. Our three grandchildren had room to play after traveling and touring the Creation museum and the ark, much better for all of us than motel rooms. The kitchen was well supplied. We had a little time to check out the river and the park. We had a great time!

Our favorite home away from home for our annual friends/family ski trip.

  • 5 of 5

We couldn't be happier with the General Store. It's a perfect home away from home for our friends and family who come together every year for an annual ski trip at Perfect North slopes. It's very clean, beautifully decorated, and the open floor plan is ideal for entertaining and enjoying time together as a family. We absolutely loved our stay and will plan to return again next year!!

Great for a few nights away

  • 5 of 5

It was a great place to get away from the family, kids and just disconnect (Girls weekend). Neighborhood is quite and just perfect for disconnecting and relating. Very spacious, tall ceilings, and 7 beds total. We will definitely be coming back.

Note... if you have not been to Petersburg, I would recommend pre-planning your meals and bring everything you need as the closest store is a bit out of the way.
