Adequate but shabby
Pros: great neighborhood, full kitchen, spacious
Cons: refrigerator needs replacing, futon needs replacing, manager charges for cleaning then asks for us to wash and dry the sheets, landscaping uncared for, poor ventilation, no temperature control, dark, light from exterior light shines thru window at night
My granddaughter, who is a high school science teacher, came down from Seattle where it is still grey and rainy to stay for spring break in this lovely cottage. She enjoyed the views, walking in the neighborhood, and the sun and blossoms most of all. The only qualification she had was that you can hear the people in the main house, and know what TV they are watching! Otherwise, near-perfect.
Amazing view from the front door
This apartment is in the hills above Berkeley, and has an amazing view of San Francisco Bay from the area in front of the entrance. The owner has provided chairs there so you can drink in the view while drinking your morning or evening libation.
The apartment was well-equipped and spacious for the 2 of us. Check-in / check-out was super simple.
Parking is in a space you may find on the street; we had to park about a block away after we unloaded our bags.
This is a basement apartment with very little light. At night the neighbors bright light shines in your face in the bed. It was cold some of the time, but they had an electric heater in the corner that helped a lot. The internet went down while I was working and the property manager worked diligently to get it back on. It is way up the hill and far from most things. Not good for biking, but it is hilling and provides for vigorous walking. The little town had some restaurants, just down the street, but I did not try them. I had an extended stay and felt very isolated because of the hilly terrain and low speed limits it is not easy to access. I liked that they had laundry available and the kitchen was well equipped. Furniture is not super comfortable, but functional. It is all pretty average and nothing special. I enjoyed hiking in Tilden Nature Area and Grizzly Peak blvd is beautiful at sunset.
We are minutes away from Tilden park which has miles of hiking, Lake Anza, the Tilden Municipal golf course, Berkeley Botanical Gardens, Strawberry Canyon Pool, UC Berkeley, Solano Ave Shops, Beauty, Restaurants and more.
