Wonderfully central to all that Santa Marguerite has to offer. Charming apartment (or flat). It was one floor up from ground level. There is a tiny elevator but you can't use it (not sure why). Therefore, not good if you have mobility issues. There are indeed 2 bedrooms. The air conditioning unit is in the one bedroom that has a double bed. In order to cool off the rest of the apartment you must leave all doors open. It was August and very hot. The a/c unit was not powerful enough to cool the whole place. I don't think that someone sleeping in the other bedroom would be comfortable. So I kept the bedroom door closed and it kept my room at a comfortable temperature. The flat is above a restaurant and very early in the morning there was very loud noises coming from below. I don't know what they were doing. If you like to sleep in then good luck to you. Eventually it seemed like a good idea to just get up at sunrise and go out. Some nights around 10 pm were noisy in street below with kids etc. But not every night. When I arrived Marina greeted me at train station and it was an easy walk to the apt. The clothes washer was broken and Marina pointed this out. Later that day I tried the shower but it was broken. The shower was promptly fixed after a phone call to Marina. Be very careful with the stove. It is gas. Not being really familiar with gas stoves that don't self start (but familiar with starting propane BBQ's) it was a learning experience and if you aren't used to these please ask Marina to show you how. The tv is. Small and a bit tricky to get started. There are no English language stations and most other stations are shopping channels. I found one music station. The best surprise was free wifi!!! I was able to play my radio station ap on my phone. A few days there was awful sewer smells in the apt and I was thinking that scented candles would be nice. Bring a yoga mat to the beach and you can lie on the pebbles no problem. There is a free bus that takes you back and forth along the sea shore but not as far as Portofino. There is a bus to there that cost very little but can be very packed especially on the return. I walked to Rappallo one morning and it was very nice. Also took train to Rappallo and it's a 3 minute trip! Wonderful cafes and restaurants everywhere. Walk a few hundred metres away from sea and you will get better prices. A wonderful pizzeria Dal Baffo is only a 10 minute walk away; Corso Matteotti, 56,.
The apartment was exactly what I was looking for. Simple yet complete.
This is a great basic place to stay for people who are want to 'actively' explore the region. Host and hostess were both great. I was met at the train station and brought to apartment. I'll be back.
We spent a wonderful week in this charming small apartment in Santa Margherita L. We were three travelers, all over 70, and it accommodated us perfectly! The location couldn't be beat . .. steps from transportation, so no car was necessary, and the sea was so close! SML is a charming and friendly small town. The apartment has comfortable beds, a nicely-equipped kitchen, and all we could have asked. A nearby supermarket met all our needs, and the town is full of wonderful restaurants. The owner, who was more a hostess and friend, met us at the train and welcomed us so warmly. When we had decided to stay 7 nights, we had wondered if it might be too long, but in fact it was not long enough. We hope to return! Thanks to the owners for this wonderful stay in a part of Italy we had not visited previously!
My family and I stayed 5 nights at this great apartment. It was clean and had a/c which was important to us. Owner was very attentive and the location was perfect!
A characterful, comfortable and convenient delight
Our hosts met us on our arrival at the railway station. As they accompanied us on our short walk to the apartment they provided much useful information to enhance our stay. They pointed out to us the facilities of the flat. It is simply but more than adequately furnished, the heating was efficient and made our out of season stay a cosy one. The universal general grocery store, the bread shop and the quiet bar in the street below gave the immediate vicinity a village-like feel. The apartment was quiet and spotlessly clean and the beds comfortable. Advice and help during the week was promptly forthcoming and only a text message away. The stops for buses to local destinations were close-by on the seafront.
The pleasantly busy pedestrianized centre of Santa Margherita and the harbour frontage, just a short walk away, were well provided with cafes, shops and places to eat.
I would very happily return - In fact, just try stopping me!
Charming, Comfortable, and Centrally Located
The Fisherman's House is a compact and comfortable apartment located in the center of Santa Margherita -- a very beautiful coastal Ligurian town. The apartment is literally a few minutes walk to the waterfront as well as the train station. All shopping and restaurants are easily reached by foot. It is located on the first floor (what would be called the 2nd floor in the U.S.) on a pedestrian side-street. Consequently, it is pretty quiet at night. The beds are very comfortable, and the apartment is well-equipped. Additionally, the on-line payment system through HomeAway.com worked great.
The owners are wonderful. They met us at the train station, showed us around, and were only a phone call away if we needed anything.
We stayed for two delightful weeks and definitely will stay again if circumstances allow.
