About Troy & Tammy Reeves

My family owned the acreage next to this large parcel when I was growing up. We always wanted this unique property because of it's access to the forest service and the trail system. It finally became available after 30 years. We built our dream home here in 2006. Our 3 sons enjoy the many activities a rural mountain retreat provides. We love the short drive from the valley.

Troy & Tammy Reeves purchased this cabin in 2006

Why Troy & Tammy Reeves chose Arizona

Ok, Most Cabins you vacation rent are in an HOA area with rules & CC&R's(not to mention another cabin just 100 feet away) and you cant do anything more than just look at a few trees.....Not this property!! with an almost 7000' elevation, Huge tall Pines everywhere, Creek that runs in spring, Direct access to trails and Forrest service, Hunting, cliff climbing, Mountain directly behind home, Unbelievable Wild Life and the Views(what incredible views from the two large decks). You can not find a more relaxing, secluded enjoyable luxury cabin on the White mountain!

Just added WiFi in April 2016

What makes this cabin unique

Overlooks Praire and has direct access to Forrest service with trail system that you can either ride vehicles, horses and simple hike for hours. You can also hike to the cliffs with Indian ruins and hieroglyphics that are viewed from the huge back deck! In addition the Juniper ridge lookout tower(one of the highest elevation points in White Mountains..is located just a atv ride from trail system behind retreat. OH AND YOU cant miss the 'historical Ponderosa pine Tree'(one of the largest Pines trees in the white mountains) is also up a beautiful trail just a couple miles from our cabin

Perfect Getaway!

  • 5 of 5

My family and I spent the Easter weekend here and enjoyed every minute of it! The cabin is in the perfect location. Very private and up close to nature. We saw deer, wild turkey and Elk. The beds were super comfy and the cabin had everything we needed. We will be back soon that's for sure!

Outdoors was amazing, indoors could have been more accommodating

  • 3 of 5

I debated on 3 or 4 stars, and ultimately chose 3. While this cabin was fantastic for outdoors, the inside did not accommodate our large group well. The cabin says it sleeps 12, and technically, it does - 3 bedrooms (2 kings, 1 queen), 2 futons, and a decent air mattress - the cabin itself is not set up for 12. The table seats 6, and we had to bring in the 4 outdoor chairs and barely managed to squeeze us all at the table that way. There were no more chairs and certainly no more room even if there had been. The living space seats 4 (3 on couch, and one reclining chair), so it was impossible for our group of 10 to sit together comfortably.

Setting up sleeping arrangements the first night was a huge chore; extra blankets were scarce as we could only find "throw" blankets, we found pillows but not enough cases, we had to rearrange one of the bedrooms in order to fit the air mattress on the floor (not the end of the world), and the futons were very uncomfortable (our kids complained how lumpy they were). Collectively, the linens were underwhelming - towels were well used, one set of sheets had holes in them, and the lack of large blankets was frustrating. That said, we did end up finding an entire load of linens in the dryer with nicer towels and 2 sets of pillow cases our second night there. Better late than never?

The kitchen had random dining wear and silverware, one measuring cup, and just a pish posh of items. The plates didn't fit in the dishwasher, which, we ran out of dishwasher soap with our big group anyway, so. I realize that cabins have lots of guests stay which means things get put away in weird places, but it bothered us so much that we felt compelled to reorganize it ourselves. Having stayed at other cabins, I'd suggest the owners make picture guides and keep them in the cupboards and drawers. This helps people know where to put them as well as helping to find items that may be in the kitchen.

Now to the outside. There was so much to do here. Walks, hikes, trails, zip line & tire swing (owners advise to use at own risk), large fire pit with ample seating, a creek to get your feet wet, mill ruins to check out, large hammock in the back, single seat hammock in the front, shiny rocks to collect, etc, and we didn't even have horses or ATVs or snow to play in. One good thing about the inside being less accommodating for our sized group, we spent as much time outside as possible.

I'd recommend no more than 6 guests here.

Owner's Response: First of all, Thank you for your comments..and we will address the items that we can. When we originally built this in 2006...it was just our family cabin(not knowing its future).....But then family & friends always wanted to come to visit with us and it soon became a gathering place for all. This cabin has become a hit with 2 or 3 families at a time coming together and enjoying the surroundings! We will work on the other items....just an FYI; There is a card table and set of chairs(4) in Garage and new Picnic table on front deck. Ashley I believe you were our 100th review...thank you for making us better at this!!! Troy

Beautiful Secluded Cabin

  • 5 of 5

This was my first VRBO stay, and let me say this was a WOW factor. This cabin was in the middle of nowhere, My husband loves being outdoors, so this was for his birthday, we brought our 3 children and my In Laws, everyone loved it! We were fortunate, to get snow, there were sleds in the garage for the kids, they made a snowman, snowball fights, fun! And for the in laws, it was a nice quiet peaceful time for them, this one is worth every penny.
