Why Margaret Bonicelli chose Nemo

The Black Hills area is nick-named "God's Country" for a reason…there is nowhere as beautiful and pristine! There is so much to do winter, spring, summer and fall! Located on 40 acres, Custer Camp 1874 is perfectly designed to be quiet and relaxing, while providing the perfect base location for enjoying the Black Hills. Just 25 miles west of Rapid City and only 12.5 miles south of Interstate 90, it is easily accessible by air or by car/vehicle. Mount Rushmore, Crazy Horse and Custer State Park are not-to-be-missed stops. Deadwood and Lead with their rich history, skiing, snowmobiling and gambling are just minutes away. Fishing in our spring-fed trout pond and stargazing from the hot tub are always highlights for our visitors!

What makes this cabin unique

Our spring-fed pond is filled with gorgeous rainbow trout. Because it is spring-fed, it never freezes over and is enjoyable year 'round. Our property is just 1.6 miles from Wonderland Cave and just 4 miles from Dalton Lake. There is so much to do nearby! We are located just 12.5 miles south of Sturgis, making this an ideal location to experience the Sturgis Motorcycle Rally. We are located just off Vanocker Canyon Road and have direct access to the 3500 miles of Forest Service trails. Area ATV rentals (seasonal) and access to NFS trails. The eight person hot tub is the perfect place to relax and stargaze. It has a USB connection for you to connect your own iPod/cell phone and listen to music while soaking. Local wildlife is plentiful - deer, turkey, elk, bald eagles, golden eagles and much more frequent our property.

The best hidden gem in Black Hills

  • 5 of 5

I want to start off by saying that I have never taken the time to write a review for a property in my life. I travel for work and have stayed in some of the nicest resorts and properties in the world and I left feeling so compelled I had to put this on the website.

My family stayed here for 5 days. Our kids, 11, 9, and 6 were in heaven the whole time. Its location to everything you would want to do in the Black Hills is perfect. The property itself was immaculate both in and out of the cabin. The only place you'll find bigger trout is at the hatchery in Spearfish.

Margaret and Derito are the most amazing hosts. You feel like part of their family when you arrive and they will feel a part of yours by the time you leave.

Some of our favorite moments were the ATV's in the hills all around the cabin. The stars at night in the hot tub. Kids fishing in the clearest water pond you'll ever see.

My recommendation is this. Book this while you can. I know in a few years unless you book in a year advance you will not have the opportunity once the word gets around. I know you will be happy and there is no way you'll find a better property or people in the Black Hills. We cannot wait to return...

Owner's Response: Aaron, thank you SO much for your wonderful review of Custer Camp! Your family is absolutely a delight and we enjoyed getting to know you. Your kids were such fun and so polite. We'll always remember young Brady's words of wisdom. LOL! Such a cutie!!! We sincerely hope that you will come and visit Custer Camp again. You would love it in the winter, just as much as in the summer. Skiing is just 30 minutes away! Thank you again! Warmest wishes, Margaret & Derito

Fabulous family Fun in the South Dakota Spring!

  • 5 of 5

Our Stay was simply fantastic! The location is simply amazing as we were less than 30 minutes away from everywhere we wanted to see in South Dakota including Mt Rushmore, Deadwood, Terry Peak Ski area, Sturgis, & Rapid City. The stay was amazing, the views were breath taking and this cabin is the gem in South Dakota as our family was able to ski, fish, hike, enjoy the spring weather. The last day were were there we even got 6 inches a snow which allowed us to sled and enjoy snow with sunshine the following day. I can't wait to get back to South Dakota and am looking forward to this Cabin next time I go!

Relaxing! Home away from home!

  • 5 of 5

Our extended family had a fantastic week at Camp Custer! We were greeted by Margaret and given a tour of the place, which is absolutely gorgeous. The kids enjoyed being able to feed the fish and also being able to enjoy s'mores and a campfire next to the pond. The adults spent a lot of the time on the patio with the most gorgeous view! It was worth every second of the longer drives it took to get to the main tourist attractions in Keystone/Rapid City etc. We definitely plan to visit again!!
