Set on a beautiful seven acres of wooded hillside, Homestead Hideaway offers you a unique opportunity to rest and relax within a peaceful setting. Located just 15 Miles from Galena, Illinois, our cabins in the woods can be your home away from home while you enjoy Galena, Chestnut Mountain, hiking, wineries, and all the other amenities Jo Daviess County has to offer.
When you stay at Homestead Hideaway, you can simply relax in our cozy rustic cabins, or get out and enjoy everything the area has to offer. At Homestead Hideaway you can expect a tranquil feel and a stress free retreat. The cabins are located in a beautiful rural area where it is perfect to have a cup of coffee or tea in the mornings and enjoy the wildlife. Let our cabins be a rare chance to unplug from the world and help ensure you have a relaxed and secluded stay. We are not able to provide Internet or cable TV due to the location of the cabins. However, do not let that steer you away from the beautiful setting. There are numerous locations in Galena as well as E-Town Coffee in Elizabeth, IL with Internet access.
We have two historic cottages located on the property and three separate rentals. The cabins are located on opposite ends of the property. You can enjoy the seven acres of wooded area by hiking or taking your dog for a walk. Whether you are planning a romantic trip to Galena, a golfing trip, a couple’s getaway, a wine lovers weekend, or skiing at Chestnut Mountain during the winter months, Homestead Hideaway will accommodate to your needs.
We have been renting the cabins for about 2 years now. We have decided to go beyond the brochure advertising and word of mouth and work with VRBO for our rentals. Do not hesitate to ask any questions.
This specific rental is the Seven Sisters Suite which is located on the top two levels of our main cabin. The lower level of this cabin is our Gleneagle Suite which is also listed on VRBO Listing #624157 & our other cabin on the property is listed as the Brimeyer Cabin VRBO Listing #624141
We now have a landline at the cabin. It is for local and emergency(911) calling only. If you wish to call long distance you will need to bring a calling card. However, long distance inbound calling is free.

I purchased this property as a hobby aside from being a member of our US Navy. I have been a member of the US Military for 20+ years. I enjoy nature and being outdoors. I believe this property gives you a feel for what its like to truly relax and get away from the rest of the world.
Dena Boehm purchased this cabin in 2011
I wanted others to experience the beautiful, relaxing, rustic feel these cottages give you. Renting the cabins out would give others the opportunity to enjoy it like I have.
We stayed for a weekend with some extended family. While they are correct that there is limited cell service, we thoroughly enjoyed truly "getting away from it all." The cabin is not fancy, but is well-stocked and has everything you may need. It is tucked into a hollow of sorts, away from the busy roads and overlooks a pasture. The hiking trails by the cabin are not long, but provide a nice walk and beautiful scenery. We'll definitely be back! Cabin owner was very helpful and gave good directions and insights to make our stay as comfortable and simple as possible.
The 7 Sisters Cabin was the perfect unplugged location for us. Dena has wonderfully furnished accomodations that are perfect for anyone who wants to still be close enough to the world but able to detach from it. We would definitely stay here again and recommend it to anyone looking for a similar experience.
We had a wonderful stay at the cabin. Very nice. 2 separate bedrooms and bathrooms which was very nice to have. Plus a pull out sleeper if needed. The cabin is 20-25 minutes from Galena down some very nice, scenic, twisty, hilly, 35 mph roads. It is definitely a little challenging at night to get to but my Google Maps worked all the way to the cabin. Cell service was iffy at the cabin. Cell service all around Galena is iffy. Honestly, for me, I wish it didn't work at all. The cabin is very nice. Well decorated and stocked. I really have no complaints except the wood for the fire place. I have never seen anything like it. It would not burn at all. I could get kindling to burn just fine but not one of the provided logs. That was disappointing for sure. I could see where the people who stayed before us tried to get a fire to go and had the same problem. Other than that it was a great stay. Definitely the peace and quiet I was looking for.
Truly a great place to stay. Tucked away in a rustic and scenic setting with plenty of open acreage around, the Homestead Hideaway is a true gem. The cabin successfully marries modern conveniences and amenities with the charm of cabin living. The owner's attention to detail and care for the property are self-evident the moment you walk inside.
Complete with a gravel road that leads up to the cabin, this spot is ideal for anyone who is looking to literally disconnect from the outside world. There is no WiFi or cable/satellite TV - this is a good thing (if you crave entertainment, browse the DVD library or board game collection). While you may have no cell phone reception inside the cabin, the signal tends to return around the driveway.
If you stay in the Seven Sisters Suite, the main floor's outdoor deck is the perfect space for enjoying a sunrise or sunset, and generally just great for quiet reflection. Pros: solitude, a pitch black horizon at night, and a warm/inviting atmosphere. Cons: completely depends on you.
We agree with the other reviews that everything is just as shown in the pictures (#nofilter). We can't say enough good things about the owner who is gracious and understanding. Although our group of three only stayed for just one night, we will definitely be returning. Thanks.
Very nice cabin in a secluded location. Easy access to Galena and surrounding area. Nice to wake up to cows in the pasture. Please note that there is another rented cottage attached to this one. They do have separate entrances and are fairly private.

The property is in a secluded wooded area. Depending on your cell phone service provider, service can be easily accessed or not so easily accessed. We have found that if you have a provider that is not strong in the area usually it will work outside the cabins. We do have a landline at the cabin.
