About the property

Beautiful, modern, secluded home in a quiet area of Leilani Estates.

The home is on one acre of lush lawn with well-manicured gardens, surrounded by ohia forest.

Our home and furnishings are new and extremely clean with an open floor-plan and a lovely lanai. Situated on a grassy acre in the ohia forest, the lot is open and airy, yet private and secluded. Although close to Pahoa town, Leilani Estates is a quiet neighborhood with large lots, giving it a remote and pastoral feeling.

We are usually on the mainland when we our guests visit. However, our property manager and close friend Mathew lives less than a mile away and is always willing to answer questions.

Amazing!

This place is just perfect. The house, the surroundings, the garden, the lanai, everything was fabulous. It was clean and comfortable with all necessary amenities. We had a wonderful time at Hale Mikana. Hopefully we will have the opportunity to come back one day :) Mahalo Chris, Chad and Matt.

A remarkable hideaway

This was our first time travelling to The Big Island and the first experience with VRBO. We loved every minute of our family escape, especially the house. It had all the ingredients for our family of six. Two well-appointed bathrooms, a master bedroom and additional rooms for grandparents and our boys. We walked in the back for morning relaxation and drove to several of the great excursions we'd only imagined. We saw the volcanoes, the National Botanical Gardens, rode a boat and tried snorkeling. The boys enjoyed a zip-lining journey over waterfalls. In many ways, coming back to Leilani Estates proved ideal. Most of what we needed for our Thanksgiving we found at the weekly Pahoa market and at local shops. We wish we could return soon.

Beautiful, comfortable, private home!

We really enjoyed our stay at Hale Mīkana. This spacious, upscale home was spotless, yet still warm and welcoming. Great layout with three bedrooms, two baths, and an amazing yard. The owner, as well as island caretaker, were responsible, friendly, and clearly cared about their home. We went to sleep with the wonderful soothing sounds of the frogs and woke to the birds....very relaxing and well worth the reasonable rate. We will most certainly come again!

FANTASTIC

The house and yard are amazing! The yard looks like it belongs in an issue of Sunset Magazine--absolutely beautiful! These pictures do not do it justice. We had breakfast on the lanai every morning, the house has everything you need to cook meals, take a shower, go snorkeling-EVERYTHING! For us it was close to family and everything we needed-just perfect.

For the price of a hotel room, you get a one acre lot and beautiful house. Hope to stay there again some day.

I was very impressed with this charming home, and its ornamental landscaping. The home was in excellent condition and meticulously clean, which was very important to me. It stocked every thing that one would hope to find in a home. I had a great experience and look forward to returning here some day!

I travel a lot. Hale Mīkana is an extra fine example of what every traveler hopes their accommodation will be like when they book it. It feels like a small estate; private, beautiful, spectacularly well kept. Every amenity the average family group needs is provided in a well-built, nicely appointed space. A complete value for the money in a safe, lovely neighborhood close to the warm ponds and an easy distance from the quaint and quirky town of Pahoa. The hosts are wonderful and allow you your privacy while insuring you are well taken care of. The caretaker is genial, quick to respond when needed and genuinely cares about your comfort. Truly, Hale Mīkana makes one feel instantly at home in paradise! We were a party of 6, 4 adults, 2 children. We stayed for the better part of a month. We weren't just grateful to discover we had made an excellent choice in vacation housing, we left feeling sentimental about our time there and deeply appreciative that Chad, Chris and Matt would share this lovely space with us at such a reasonable price. Mahalo nui loa (A long & lasting Thank You)! We would definitely enjoy staying here again!

We hope our guests enjoy themselves completely while respecting the home and grounds. Of course doing so requires rules that are mandatory during your visit.
1) CHECK IN/OUT: Check in after 3pm; out before 11am.
2) NON-SMOKING and DRUG FREE house. Any evidence of drugs or smoking indoors will mean the immediate departure of guests with no refund.
3) No PETS are allowed unless approved in the contract.
4) MAXIMUM OCCUPANCY limited to 6 persons including children.
5) FALSIFIED RESERVATIONS. Any reservation obtained under false pretense is subject to forfeiture of advance payment and party will not be permitted to check in.
6) LAVA POLICY. In the event of mandatory or owner requested evacuation due to lava flow or related air quality issues, guest will be refunded unused portion of stay. Cleaning fee is not refunded after check in.
7) STORM AND FLOOD POLICY. Refund provided for unused portion of stay, only with mandatory National Weather Service or local authorities order, or owner requested evacuation. No cleaning fee refunds after check in.
8) NOISE must be kept to a minimum in consideration of our neighbors.
9) GARBAGE to be placed in cans outside behind the carport.
10) SATELLITE TELEVISION is provided but pay-for-view is not permitted.
11) All PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES at own risk.
12) Reimbursable LAWYER FEES limited to $500.
13) INTERNET access has a download maximum and may not be used for high data usage such as games, movies, or music.
14) FRUIT harvested from garden must be prewashed outdoors. Consume at own risk.
15) Most important, CHILDREN must be supervised at all times. Natural curiosity places them at greater risk to the many outdoor hazards hidden in the Hawaiian paradise: sharp lava boulders, dangerous surf, thorny plants, stinging ants and other bugs, and disease-carrying mosquitoes, slugs and snails. To keep them safe, please do not allow them in the gardens, on the rocks, in the surrounding jungle, on the street, or out of sight at any time.
