We enjoy hiking in the Catskills natural beauty with a camera and a hiking stick. The recently opened Romer Mountain Trail was part of the volunteer efforts contributed through this home which housed weekly teams of volunteer trail builders over the past 2 years as part of our contribution to preserving access to these beautiful mountains. Frank, who helped on the trail building crew, still serves as the Romer Mountin Trail Maintainer.
Nina Marra purchased this house in 2012
Property extends to the Esopus Creek. Mountain views and dead-end country roads. The home is warm and comfortable, clean and light-filled.
Easy access to NY city (Approx. 2 hours) Close to the cool town of Phoenicia. From the house, a 2.5 mile 40 minute walk to town on country roads, or a 5 min. drive. House is situated on a quiet deadend country lane with mountain views and nearby Esopus Creek.
We rented Nina and Frank's house for a weekend of scrapbooking for 5 ladies. Was great for each of us to have our own bed. Very comfortable beds too. Excellent accommodations and very spacious. Home had everything you need and then some! We went at the end of October and the ride there was gorgeous! Excellent directions too! I love that they included landmarks. Nina and Frank were very quick to respond to all of our questions prior to arrival. We are already planning on coming back for another weekend!
My family (7adults 2children)and I enjoyed every minute in this lovely home. The inside was very clean and comfortable as well as the outdoors. Ms nina was very accomodating and quick to respond to all my question prior to arrival. Fire pit is awesome, esopus creek was literally across the home but to get access (to take a dip in water) we had to drive down the road just 2min/ def walkable (about 1 mile down road) -I Highly recommend it for hot summer days...pack your towels and snacks...we also enjoyed driving to Mt overlook (30min from house)-safe but steep hike-i saw children hikng it (i did not take mine it was too much) we made the hike up in an 1hr 20 up and 1hr 15min down -none stop walking...The view at the top was heavenly!....Thanks again Ms Nina for opening the doors to your lovely home and your attentive service.
We enjoyed our visit to Phoenicia and the house was lovely, with the exception of the two master bedrooms being upstairs and sharing a bath. The small twin bed room is downstairs with it's own bath, where one couple stayed, but it is cramped. Otherwise, we had everything we needed and there are several spaces to escape to read, etc. We love to hike and did go on the trail Nina suggested and thought it was great. We also went to a little theater production in Phoenicia which we thoroughly enjoyed. We would recommend this rental for large families.
The house was great! Clean, newly updated, well maintained and very welcoming. Nina and Frank were very responsive to all the questions we had and got back to us within hours. It was the coldest Valentines weekend in over 50 years (-2 degrees F, before the windchill), and the passcode lock on the door was frozen. Called Nina and she got us right into the house and was great!
About 20 minutes for skiing and Belleayre and 30 minutes from Hunter. Phoenicia, just down the road, was a nice little town with a couple of decent restaurants and a little market. The house is within walking distance to Esopus Creek.
Even though it was cold outside the house was very warm and we had a fantastic stay. Look forward to staying at the house again in the spring! I would definitely recommend this property.
The house was very nice, just as described, and very clean. Would stay there again if the opportunity arose.
My family and I - a total of 7 people - spent a very relaxing and fun Labor Day weekend here. The host was very proactive in providing all the necessary information and tips for getting the most out of our stay and was responsive when we had any questions. The house was perfect for us and offered something for everyone. There is ample space for 7 adults not to feel crowded and abundant natural beauty and serenity for everyone to enjoy. For those who can't live without it, there is modern entertainment (e.g. wifi and netflix on living room TV), though I am pretty sure most won't need it once here. We did a lot of cooking in the spacious kitchen and outdoors on the grill and fire pit and truly relaxed and enjoyed the fresh air and beautiful scenery. There are many activities in the surrounding area. The closet is Esopus Creek, which is right next to the house and good for fishing and white water tubing. We didn't get a chance to tube on the creek this time but definitely want to come back soon to try it next time. There are also many little towns nearby you can check out. We drove to Woodstock to take a dip in a nice swimming hole at Millcreek and do some antiquing. For people who want to hike, there are guides for nearby hiking trails provided in the house. We didn't do that this time around as I had just hurt my ankle recently on another hike, but we hope to come back and try the hiking soon.
