Unplug and Reconnect. This private 3 bedroom, 1 full bath cottage is located on one acre of lake front property on Lake Monomonac in Southern NH in the Monadnock area.
This cottage boasts 200 feet of waterfront property. Enjoy swimming (to a floating raft) and kayaking (no charge 4 single kayaks, 1 tandem kayak). Two islands, Blueberry Island and Paradise Island offer plenty of places to explore by kayak. In fact, Monomonac means 'islands' and 'place' to the Nipmuc Indians who originally settled the area. There is a pedal boat for your use as well. One can fish on the large dock or 2 smaller docks. Fish on the lake include: Largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, chain pickerel, bluegill, pumpkinseed, yellow perch and white perch.
Outside games include: badminton, volleyball, croquet or play one of the many board games and puzzles at your disposal. Or read a book in the hammock, chaise lounges, rockers, sling back chairs....
At night, enjoy the stars, or fireworks depending on the night, as you sit around the campfire.
Within a mile or two there are numerous bike paths as well as Walmart, KFC, Taco Bell, Subway, Dunkin Donuts, grocery stores, restaurants, church, library, pottery, farm stands, Cathedral of the Pines, Annette State Park, marina, golf course, etc.
Lake Monomonac is 711 acre lake and a favorite with boaters, sailors and water-skiers. There is a marina to launch your boat or jet ski. It is also fun for birders. Many varieties of birds and most noteworthy my daughter and I spotted a bald eagle above our heads as we were resting on the floating dock after a swim. We often see a blue heron on one of the docks especially in the morning.
In winter there are lake activities: snow mobiling, ice skating, cross country skiing, ice fishing, snow shoeing, etc. on the lake and a cross country ski resort, Windblown, in the next town, New Ipswich. Down hill skiing 30 minutes away at Mount Crotched. The cottage also has a hill that is great for sledding! And you can warm up by the wood stove when you come in or make a fire outside by the campfire.
Lake Monomonac covers part of the Monadnock region in New Hampshire and the Central region of Massachusetts, straddling the border between the states. It is a beautiful blending of countryside, small towns and forests with enough water for serious recreation.
Lake Monomonac is an hour and a quarter from Boston. Keene is 30 minutes away and Peterborough 20 minutes from the cottage for movies, plays, museums, live music, etc.
The cottage has 3 bedrooms 1 full bath, and washer and dryer. This 1100 square foot cottage fits 4-6 people comfortably. Maximum 4-6 occupants on premises at all times. It is very clean to enhance your get away. Not suitable for large gatherings. Thus, renters who have similar expectations need only inquire.
Unplug and reconnect with family and friends because there is no TV or phone! We do however have a DVD library. There is no internet.
We thank you for viewing our property. We attempt to provide every renter with a memorable experience. All rent goes directly to an education fund for the children.
victoria Proulx purchased this cottage in 2006
When we first looked at this place, my blood pressure immediately lowered and continues to do so with each visit. Nature and privacy go hand in hand at this cottage. Ideal for birders, kayaks, fishermen, sailors, star gazers, readers, day dreamers....
This was our first time at this property and the lake. It was such a gorgeous location! The cottage was in a great condition, and the owner was very quick and prompt with her responses. We woke up to the beautiful views each morning. The kayaks and paddle boat was so much fun. We also enjoyed the camp fire in the evening by the lake. There is a walmart, Market Basket and dollar store like 10 mins away in case you forget something. The owner was nice enough to leave some supplies in case we needed it. She also had a folder of all activities that we could do nearby which was really helpful. I will definitely go back here next year for a longer stay. Totally recommend it!
Spent a fantastic 5 days here with my 2 young boys. We played on the beach, we swam, we took the pedalboat out on the lake, we toasted marshmallows in the firepit, we grilled and ate, we played games and read books, we watched some DVDs but otherwise enjoyed the lack of TV and internet, and when things got a bit restless we got out and hit some of the local parks and playgrounds. And after they went to bed, I got some quiet time to clean up and then relax: sit and read (an actual book!) or go out and look at the stars. It was exactly what I wanted and the kids loved exploring new places, sleeping in the bunk beds and playing in the water at every opportunity. The house was well appointed and felt homey and it was great to have all the water toys, rafts, noodles, life jackets and other things provided. Eventually we'll graduate to activities like fishing, kayaking and badminton - which mean, yes, we would definitely come back!
This was our fifth year visiting the cottage. This visit was the best so far. Clean and cozy as usual, all amenities listed and then some were available. There were baskets of extras for the items we had forgotten, you just had to leave a note and/or replace or leave $. The peace and tranquility of the lake made each day peaceful and calm. The boys were able to swim, fish and kayak. I was able to read and cook our meals w/o interruption. We will continue our visits to Lake Monomonac for years to come.
The property was in excellent condition it had everything we could have possibly need except for a few kitchen utensils and grilling spatulas. Low ceilings were a bit tricky to get used to, but I am 6'5" so a smaller person should have no issue. Had boats and activities. Bring your own bedding unless you want to pay $10 extra. Views to the lake are great. Swimming was nice but did have a murky bottom once you were out 10 feet.
Over all a lovely place and nice people to rent from.
I stayed at this property for a week and I have to say, it was one of the most relaxing and invigorating weeks I have had. Not only was the house immaculate, but it was exactly like the pictures, inside and out. There were stunning views from every angle and the care that has been put into making the property a home is great - you feel welcome right from walking in the door. Whether it was sitting out on the dock, hanging around the fire pit, laying in the hammock, kayaking, swimming, or anything else you can imagine, it was all there. Thank you so much for opening your home and all of the hospitality. This place is truly amazing, no matter what you are looking for. Everything surpassed expectations and I am already looking to book for next year!
Must sees include: cathedral of the pines, Annette State Park in town. The lake also has sailing competitions, etc.
Sailboat rental available.
Jaffrey/Keene/Peterborough has museums, restaurants, plays, live music, festivals etc. etc.
