About William Harty

One of our other passions is music. I was involved with the Guardsmen Drum and Bugle Corps for 26 years, as a marching member for 10 years and 16 as a choreographer and director. My whole family was involved in one way or another. My sister Celeste and Paul were members while sisters Claudia and Regina, followed and helped with management. My father was very active as director and my mother sewed flags and followed us every where.

My son has followed in music and was a member of the Green Thunder Percussion Ensemble and has been taking piano lessons for 15 years.

I am currently president of Ray's Hvac, a heating and air conditioning company that my father Ray started in 1956. My mother and brother Paul work for the company as well.

My son and I have 3 dogs: Minnie Pearl, a Jack Russell/Pomeranian, Magnolia, a Fox Terrier, and Mr. Conrad, a Border Collie. Both Minnie Pearl and Mr. Conrad were rescued from visits to Ireland.

We are involved along with my sister Claudia with Young at Hearts, a senior pet rescue and adoption organization. My son also volunteers at the Animal Care League of Oak Park.

My son and I are parishioners at St. John the Baptist in Winfield, and I am also a member of the Human Rights Campaign.

About Us

William Harty, owner

Being from Chicago, I always had a vision of owning a grand 4 flat in Rogers Park, Residence on the Avenue. The architecture was very different from other areas in the city.

As a young man, and even now, I love the drive north from the city up Lake Shore Drive and continuing on to the historic Sheridan Road.

The building was purchased in 2003, and in 2006 we did a major rehab. After doing full time rentals, we decided to do vacation rentals in two of the condos. We felt some thing this great should be shared.

What makes this condo unique

This condo because it is on the top floor is amazing on a sunny day. The grand open floor plan is great for gatherings. Even if you are working away in this great kitchen you can enjoy the rest of you family or friends at the granite breakfast bar. The master bath is also a great feature of this condo with the whirlpool and separate shower.

We had a wonderful time in the condo. It was clean and well maintained. We were able to entertain a mid-sized group. Glad we made the choice.

Lovely, quiet, spacious North Shore home

  • 5 of 5

We stayed in this home for seven days recently while we were visiting nearby family in Chicago, and loved it. The condo is very spacious, with great street views from the living room and master bedroom. It was well-maintained and very comfortable for our family of four.

We had initially planned to rent a car while visiting Chicago, but decided not to and did not regret the decision. Grocery stores, parks, and restaurants were all reachable by walking within ten minutes or so, and the El and lake were just a bit farther (15 minutes of leisurely walking away). We walked during the day and in the evenings and found the neighborhood to be friendly, easy to navigate and well-lit. Buses run regularly as well, and are closer than the El.

The manager, Ross, was responsive, clear and welcoming. He answered all of our questions and we had an efficient and pleasant check-in. The unit was very clean when we arrived and we had almost everything we needed. (We are tea drinkers and would recommend adding a teakettle to the kitchen). The kitchen was well-stocked and we hosted several family dinners while visiting, quite comfortably.

We'd recommend this property and location for people visiting the North Shore / Evanston area who are looking for a comfortable, tastefully appointed home environment during their stay in Chicago. Should we return to the city, we'll definitely be staying here again.

Can't get worse than what we experienced. For real. Terrible.

  • 1 of 5

Not pleasant - the worst VRBO I have stayed in Chicago and it's not even close. Ross, the "caretaker" was rude, demanding, and acted like a jerk. He apologized in writing but the owner and I had to prompt Ross to do so. Ridiculous. Ross lives in the complex and so any extra work, noise, or anything that bothers Ross infringes on Ross' White privilege of living there. Ross' service was sub par, even after he stopped acting rudely. He actually yelled at me and told me, "get out of my way." I put him in his place, calmly and assertively but really? I paid for this kind of treatment? No thank you Ross. Go live somewhere else where you can be retired in peace.

The TV didn't initially work. It took Ross an hour and a half to fix it and he initially blamed it on me.

Are you kidding me?!

My kids were told to slide across the floor, not walk, to not make ANY noise.

Are you kidding me?!

The garage is so small it's not worth the rent.

It's on the third floor. Not handicap accessible.

The neighborhood is shady. The first few nights there were random drunk people out on the street in front of the unit. One tried entering the property and was yelling for some lady. I had to shut and lock the door on him as he was inside the gate😳. People on the street were checking out our belongings as we were checking in. It felt like Fes in Morocco. My wife and children did not care for that unsafe vibe. I wouldn't stay here again simply for that reason. It's not a family friendly neighborhood.

The roof leaked water and that forced us to leave early. The water damage in the unit was evident when we arrived, I multiple places like the bathroom, the washer and dryer area, and then when it rained the water leaked in about four different spots. The owner was cavalier about it though and basically said he was handling it. What a joke.

There is likely mold growing😳.

We were reimbursed our deposit, one nights stay and the garage fee, all of which I had to ask for and remind the owner to pay me after he promised to pay by a date certain which he ignored.

Do as you wish, but my wife and kids hated this place and we have NEVER been treated the way Ross treated us. I will not stay here ever again and I recommend you don't either.

For those that are regulars, it's likely because it's close to Northwestern which is true. Other than that, the place sucks and Ross is an unsavory "dude" who treats you like you are a dog.

See for yourself.

Beautifully renovated condos

  • 5 of 5

This is the perfect condo! Plenty of little touches to make it feel homey, yet not cluttered. Everything kitchen pot, spatula and platter we needed for cooking several meals was easily located in the kitchen. Our only wish would be a sharper pair of scissors, but we were thrilled that there were scissors! The on-site manager is a charming fellow, he answered our many questions prior to our stay, and was very helpful during our stay, all with a smile and genuine good cheer.

We rented both the second floor and the top floor condos. They are both wonderful! Our group of 11 had plenty of room to spread out when quiet time was needed, plenty of beds and linens, and the second floor condo has a sofa large enough that we could relax without being cramped. Nor did we feel cramped at meal time between the large dining room table plus bar seating.

Take them up on the offer to use the garage for a small extra fee. We were so very happy we had reserved spots waiting for us at the end of a fun day exploring Chicago.

Would definitely stay here again!
