Downtown Newport is completely walkable with dining and shopping available. Sometimes, because we are on an isthmus which separates the north and south bays of Lake Memphremagog, one can hear the loons calling as they fly overhead.
The mountains and the lake are very close and offer opportunities for kayaking/canoeing, swimming, hiking and biking. There are 30+ km of groomed cross country ski trails within 5 minute's drive. Craftsbury outdoor center is 35 minutes away with over 100km of trails. Craftsbury also offers sculling in the summertime. Jay peak is 25 minutes away.
The border with Quebec is only six miles offering a whole different culture in their eastern townships. Montreal is two hours away. Quebec City 3.5h.
This apartment is also available at a monthly rate of $1200.
I grew up in the Midwest but chose Newport because of it's proximity to the natural beauty of the outdoors. Downtown Newport is on an isthmus which separates the north and south bays of Lake Memphremagog, an international lake which extends into Canada for 27 miles. Even from this downtown location, one can often hear loons calling as they fly from bay to bay. There are several good restaurants and other basic shopping which can be reached from this location.
Ruth Sproull purchased this apartment in 2014
Vita Huset is under a 200-year-old red oak tree which towers over the property. The carriage house was originally used as a stable and when we restored it, we discovered hay in the upper level! The house has been completely restored and updated for modern use.
Walk to everything like dining and shopping. Hospital is just a five-minute drive or 10-minute bike ride along the bike path. Quebec, Canada is just 6 miles away and can be reached by bike path or car (of course.)
The property is very well taken care of. Ruth was pleasant and helpful in every way. Flower gardens were extraordinary and made the place inspirational. A close walk to downtown Newport. Quaint and very comfortable, just like home. We would highly recommend this to all our traveling friends.
We are close to the lake and the mountains. Biking and skiing are close by. In fact, there are over 30km of trails just five minutes from Vita Huset!
