Beautiful house with swimmingpool

Bedrooms 4
Property type house
Minimum Stay 3 nights

About the property

Casa Blanca

At a short walk from central park, you will enjoy this finca-style house built in 1974 by an American writer in love with Guatemala.

We kept the house in its original style and furniture.

The part of the building situated by the street is from colonial era, with 80 cm-thick walls.

A first room is fitted with a king size bed (made of two single beds that can be separated if needed).

The second room is twice bigger and equipped with 3 single beds.

These rooms share a bathroom with hot tub and shower.

Another building hosts a laundry with washing machine and dryer, as well as a fridge, and an door leads directly to a large equipped kitchen with modern oven, dishwasher, microwave and all kind of accessories for cooking.

When you go out out the kitchen, you will enjoy the colonial pila (fountain) before arriving in the main two-storey building.

At the first floor, the comedor with view to the pool, then the living room with danish and guatemalan furniture, around a chimney, and in in between, a tropical wood stairs lead to the second floor.

When you are up the stairs, the guest room is on your right, and the master bedroom on your left, while right in front of you is the access to the terrace, with astonishing view to the church, Antigua roofs and volcanoes.

Both of the rooms are made of wood, with large bookcases facing the beds (queen size in the guest room and king size in the master bedroom).

A chimney reflecting in a mirror lets you enjoy the fire from your bed in the master bedroom.

Each room has its own toilets and shower.

When you go down again to the first floor, the door opens on the garden at the back of the house, with a piece of lawn surrounded by tropical lush, and a few acapulco chairs to relax.

On the western side of the main building, the space is filled by a 6.5 by 3.5 meters solar heated pool.

Beautiful house with swimmingpool

This place has the potential to be nice - but unfortunately for us was not.

  • 3 of 5

Philippe, the owner of the home, is a pleasure to correspond with and were he not an absentee landlord I am sure the house would live up to its potential more fully. As this was our fifth trip to Antigua we have experienced enough of the city and its lodgings to know this home is in need of a bit of attention to bring it up to par with other similarly priced offerings.

On the plus side:

- The home is large with plenty of areas for people to spread out.

- It is in an area of the city that is close enough to the center but still feels residential.

- The kitchen is well stocked and the fireplace is a nice amenity.

On the negative side:

- While the caretaker seems like a nice person she is obviously not focused on the upkeep of this rental or the comfort of guests. Interactions were rushed or forgotten completely until follow up emails / calls were made to her.

- Two of the four bedrooms are on the road and of much lower quality than the two in the main house. This may work for some groups but did not work well for ours.

- The woodwork in the house is being eaten away by mites. Be prepared to sweep up the dust daily.

- The dryer does not actually dry clothing although it does spin.

- Inadequate bedding initially - took 2 days to get caretaker back to pull out extra blankets from locked linen closet.

- Some of the aesthetics highlighted in the listing do not quite live up to reality (Bougainvillea was chopped back to a stump & fountain was non-functional.)

Overall we would not stay here again or recommend this listing to others.

Wonderful space for two families. We woke up each morning to fresh air, and sunshine.

  • 5 of 5

The ping pong table was a great surprise. Especially loved the house layout - built around an open courtyard, with separate private spaces, and common spaces open to the Eternal Springtime. We could walk to restaurants and cafes, massage, markets, cooking lessons at La Tortilla, churches (especially loved the Myseo de Santo Hermano Pedro and Nuestra Senira Dr Merced). Very easy to arrange outings - coffee farm tour, Earth Lodge, bird watching, volcano hikes. Ended each day on the rooftop to watch the slow, colorful sunset and the belching Volcano Fuego. Will return again to take Spanish lessons.

A beautiful home in a wondeful part of the world.

  • 5 of 5

A group of us just returned from Antigua, Guatemala following a close friend's wedding. There were ten people total and none of us had ever had the pleasure of visiting Antigua before. The photographs of the home do not capture its size. The property was very clean and comfortable. The kitchen had everything necessary to cook a full meal if necessary.

The location of the home was about 7 short blocks south of the central plaza - never took more than 10 minutes walking. The check in and check out process was very simple. I recommend this property if visiting this great part of the world. We will be back again.

Well earned respite that cannot be beat

  • 5 of 5

We came from the ocean and fishing and completely relaxed in the cooler mountain air and wonderful home. We were a family with adult children and spouses and were able to spread throughout the home comfortably meeting outside by the pool and courtyard and In the evening lots of cards around the dining table. Eric and Suzanne were so accommodating making sure we were comfortable and a must stop at their restaurant, Como Como.

A wonderful place to stay and explore Antigua!

  • 5 of 5

Staying at Casa Blanca was a great experience for our group of nine, which included four teenagers. The property itself is delightful. The accommodations were well-appointed, clean and comfortable. The kitchen was fully equipped and spacious. The dining room table accommodated all of us. There was a comfortable lounge for people to relax. There is a well-maintained swimming pool but we were there in December and our group decided not to use it.

The property is within walking distance of the center of Antigua and in four days everyone enjoyed exploring this wonderful town. For those who wanted to ride, inexpensive tuk-tuk taxis were available.

The owner, Phillipe, was easy to contact and responsive to our questions.

Our stay was a great success and everyone wants to return in the future and stay at Casa Blanca again. We highly recommend this remarkable property. It is a real find!

Excellent house with all the amenities.

  • 5 of 5

6 of us stayed in this cozy home for 4 nights while in Antigua. The house easily slept all of us and we could have included a few more! The beds were comfortable, the showers hot, the pool delightful, and the fireplace was very enjoyable in the evenings (wood is provided). The Wifi worked great. The kitchen and bar had all the amenities needed. Ample parking for 2 cars. It was the perfect colonial villa to stay in for a trip to Antigua.
