About Shari Allen

We enjoy snowmobiling during the winter on the various trails. Mountain biking during the summer is a favorite past time. There are quite a few lakes in the area that we were able to kayak 4 different lakes in one day. Our favorite meal all year round is something barbecued on our covered deck.

Shari Allen purchased this cabin in 2005

Why Shari Allen chose Gold Country / High Sierra

Our log cabin is situated so guest can enjoy private time or relax in front of the fire reading a book.

Enjoy the view of Bloods Ridge off deck, in evening you can see lights of the Mountain's groomer. Very quiet street.

What makes this cabin unique

2 master suites allow for multiple families and children. Close walk to Bear Lake or Bear Valley Village. Easy access into the cabin in the snow.

Notes:
Bear Valley Lodge has dining at Creekside, Sky High Pizza, and Grizzly bar. Check for hours. The Village grocery store has limited supplies. They stock Orvis Grass Fed beef in there freezer. It is best to plan your food so trips to Arnold would not be necessary. The market in Arnold is supplied with great groceries. Snowmobile taxi is guest obligation. Snowmobile Rentals available with Bear Valley Snowmobile. www.bvsnowmobile.com Apartment below cabin may have an overnight occupant on occasion, usually not likely. Apartment is separate with it's own door entrance. Be aware of snow shedding from roof on sides of cabin.

Pictures do not so it justice

  • 4 of 5

We had a great stay. Had over 10' of snow, and it is not normal - took 2 hrs to dig into front door - some power outages and lots of shedding, but it is a snowmobile community and it was just a great stay...make a big fire, easy mud room for snow clothes and pretty wood cabin - we will stay again. :)

Great rental house in beautiful location

  • 5 of 5

The house is charming, has everything you need for a Summer getaway in the Sierras, is close to the small neighborhood lake, and is easy to get to from the highway - a perfect choice for our family, including 2 young boys. Our older boy actually said that one of his favorite parts of the vacation was this house. I would recommend this property to others. And the owner was very gracious and responsive with advice.

Great house for 2 families

  • 5 of 5

We had a great long weekend at the house. It was very comfortable for 2 families. Shari answered all of our questions and took good care of us. We had a very fun weekend downhill and crosscountry skiing, and the kids loved playing in the snow outside the house.

Great cabin! All the luxuries of home and more!

  • 5 of 5

Our stay at the cabin was great. Very clean and had everything we needed for our stay including all kitchen accessories (i.e. crockpot, waffle maker, etc) . The wood burning stove was great to stay warm throughout the snowstorm and cold nights. Really enjoyed BBQ on the deck and the kids had a great time sleighing down the hill produced from all of the snow falling off the roof! If I had to make one suggestion it would be to notify people that not only is the house only accessible by snow mobile during the winter if snow is there (which we knew) but that the snow mobile taxi service closes at 4p.m. and if you arrive after that the only way there is by walking, which is a long walk in the middle of a storm or snow. Also some sort of map would be helpful if you do have to walk it after 4p.m. as I wasn't familiar with the area. Unless you're lucky enough to meet a local in the Bear Valley Lodge who has a snow mobile and is willing to give you a ride to the house along with your bags you are in for a long walk. Good thing the locals are real nice and were willing to do that for us. Other than that, everything was perfect. Always a pleasure when it's better than you expect!

Owner's Response: Thanks for your review. Its a beautiful accommadating cabin. All cabins in the Bear Valley area during the winter are accessable by a snow mobile taxi. There are at least 2 services and one will go after 4:00 p.m. We do not recommend anyone walking there luggage to any of the cabins. For people with smaller groups and arriving late at night Bear Valley Lodge has condos that are a great fit for those small groups. We do discuss all arrangements prior to people booking so they are aware of transportation during the winter snow time. Bear Valley has a shuttle that will then take people up to the ski lift for those that ski. Thanks for taking great care of our cabin! Shari

Great house for families

  • 4 of 5

We enjoyed a wonderful weekend in Bear Valley at this home. It's well equipped and has great space for our families to enjoy. The home is comfortable and spacious. It's a bit from the village so snowmobiles are essential during the winter for access to/from this home.

Mt. Reba

We enjoy snowmobiling, kayaking at the local lake, beautiful meadow to cross country ski and love Mt. Reba to snow ski. It is a nice ride to Spicer Lake when snow has melted. Along the way is Utica Lake & Union Lake. Less than 20 minutes from cabin. Great area to kayak or have a picnic & fish. Bear Lake, a 10 min. walk is fabulous to kayak.

There are numerous bike trails with a booklet at cabin for directions. We also enjoy sitting on the deck with a glass of wine.

During winter, have snow play in front of cabin, sides of cabin are subject to roof shedding snow chunks.

There is an apartment below cabin & on occasion may have someone in it. That would be owners or property manager's family. It is a separate entrance and would not hinder your enjoyment.
