That means you never run out of hot water. There's eight nice beaches within 30 minutes of us.

Angie and I are both retired USAF. We got to sample lodging across the U.S. and in several countries. When we started the Acorn Cottage we wanted to provide travelers with something more like a home instead of a furnished box. In other words, somewhere that WE would want to stay! We clean and maintain the Acorn Cottage ourselves so we KNOW what condition it is in before you arrive. We live in a separate building on the property and will be your neighbors if you come visit! That means any problems or questions come directly to us, the owners.

About Richard Knowles

Angie and I were both career USAF and are now self-employed and semi-retired. Our daughter is active duty US Army. Angie lived less than a mile from here during high school and college before she entered the USAF. She knows the area very well and gives great directions!. She does fabric art, slipcovers for furniture, screen printing and other activities that are enjoyable and sometimes profitable.

We both have a variety of interests and there is normally one or more on-going projects around our house. It's normal to see us covered with things like thread, sawdust or paint. After the USAF we both did some work in the Home Décor industry as custom fabricators, so we have some interesting skill sets.

Richard Knowles purchased this apartment in 1995

Why Richard Knowles chose Kenwood

We bought a 3-car garage with an attached apartment and a bungalow! The garage was a big factor in our decision. We are self employed and the garage has become our studio. We live in the bungalow and our daughter used to live in the apartment.

What makes this apartment unique

The Acorn Cottage is more like a home than a vacation rental. It is very private even though we're near downtown. All of our guests love the amenities like a well equipped kitchen, cooler, beach towels, a small DVD library, tourist pamphlets, off-street parking, etc. Guests also appreciate being near downtown and the nearby interstate access. Everyone loves the quaint decor and furnishings.

Great Location and Great Hosts!

  • 5 of 5

Absolutely loved this place! Checking our daughter into Eckerd, and it turned out to be the perfect location. Only a ten minute drive to campus with lots of places to get school supplies in between. Very close to St. Pete - only a five minute drive. Discovered the Grand Central district, literally blocks down the road with lots of art and unique restaurants.

Adorable cottage convenient to everything

  • 5 of 5

We very much enjoyed staying at the Acorn Cottage. It was immaculate. The owners were so friendly & helpful. One of the best things about staying at this cozy apartment was the convenient location. The cottage sits in the Kenwood Historic District- a beautiful area of St. Petersburg with many cobblestone streets. Central Avenue is just a few blocks over & downtown is a few more. The beaches are 12-20 minutes, depending on which you choose & traffic.

Owner's Response: Tammy and her party were great guests. They were no problem to have around and the Acorn Cottage barely looked like anyone had been in it even though they stayed for a week. We'd be happy to have them come back for another visit!

Absolutely charming cottage!

  • 5 of 5

We loved this charming cottage. Rick and Angie are the most incredible hosts . It is truly like being a guest in their own home! The cottage is beautifully furnished with antiques and Angie's own lovely creations ( she is a very talented seamstress and designer). So comfortable. We didn't want to leave. Great location in a wonderful historic neighborhood . We highly recommend it and easily give it five stars !

Very nice

  • 5 of 5

Very nice, peaceful accommodations. Easy to get to many different points of interest, very close to major highways. Allowed us to save money over local hotels and allowed us to cook meals, saving us even more money. Highly recommend

Owner's Response: Cheryl and her husband were great guests. They came down to watch their son play college baseball and tour the area. They had a good time and were friendly and responsive guests. They left the Acorn Cottage in great shape, you could barely tell that they had been up there for a week. We'd be happy to see them come back for another visit!

Car: recommended

You'll be just west of downtown St Petersburg in a residential area bordering the business district. The apartment is above a 3-car garage (Angie's studio) like a little penthouse. It has a great view of the area. You can see your car in our driveway from the living room and bedroom windows too. It's also very private and makes a perfect little get-away place.

The neighborhood is full of the old Craftsman Style homes and is pleasant to stroll in. There's a small park, art galleries and food within walking distance.

Downtown has been recognized by Southern Living and Forbes Travel Magazines as 'A New Destination!' They praised the wide pedestrian-friendly sidewalks and availability of bistros & restaurants. There's also art galleries, music, plays, museums... and don't forget the new & improved Salvador Dali Museum! Our downtown is known for it's wide choice of the arts.

We are not on the downtown beaches, but you probably won't want to swim in the downtown beaches anyway! We ARE within thirty minutes of six or more popular SWIMMING beaches. The interstate is just down the street and provides access to all the regional attractions, theme parks, etc.
