Overview

About the property

3 Bedrooms, 3 Bathrooms, Sleeps 6 on almost acres of secluded beachfront

The Beach House is a private retreat literally on the beach with a private dock. Located within an historic gated community, the property boasts almost 3 acres of natural wooded grounds naturally and organically maintained with over a thousand feet of natural beachfront to explore and enjoy with friends and family.

Your vacation is very important to us as hosts, we care about the details. In addition to speaking with every guest before arrival, we meet every guest on check-in to make certain everything is prepared for your stay. Please read our reviews and feel free to call us to talk about your stay and any special needs/requests. Nothing is perfect but we are a call or text away to help make your stay everything it can be!

Outside you will relax in the hammock, the screened porch, down at the beach, on the dock (renovated spring 2017) or out on the terrace all where you see the water and feel the freedom of open space. Listen to music on the outdoor sound system or simply listen to the many birds, duck and swan who make their home here.

Inside the house, you have the option to enjoy central air conditioning, which is critical to waterfront living. Relax, watch TV on the huge “smart tv” with surround sound, cook meals in the cook’s kitchen, out on the BBQ, play some of the many board games available or practice your yoga in the great room as the sun rises before your eyes.

Our process is detailed; we speak with every guest before arrival and are always available to assist. We meet every guest on arrival with a beautiful gift basket and some snacks so that you have something to enjoy after your trip. We are available to help with ideas and reservations and share a detailed list of restaurants and attractions.

We use “Amazon Fresh” for grocery deliveries (inexpensive) so you have everything you need already delivered and put away before you even arrive!

This beach house is special; you feel it when you walk through the door. From your welcome basket to the warmth of real artwork, quality furniture, great lighting in this well appointed, carefully prepared rustic yet luxurious home. Fresh linens, towels, shampoo, body wash and all the other basics are here for you and your guests. There are 2 sets of linens for each bed and many bath and beach towels. There are plenty of dishes, glasses and flatware ready to use.

Not a High End Rental

  • 2 of 5

Marc was very kind and considerate throughout the process of renting his beach house. He allowed early check-in and made us feel very welcome.

When we arrived we learned that we were the first renters for the 2017 summer season and that the central air conditioning was broken.  Marc purchased 4 window units to cool the house for the week but the master bedroom did not have a window that would accommodate the a/c unit so there was no a/c in the master.

The house has great potential but as other reviewers mentioned in 2016, the house had issues that are not consistent with a high end rental. My husband and I have rented about 10 vacation homes and condos over the years and have never experienced a rental like this. We arrived on June 30 and were scheduled to stay until July 7 but instead left on July 4 knowing that we were leaving a considerable amount of “money on the table.”

The kitchen was full of clutter; the closets were full of old food which was left by others and some was rotten and expired. The kitchen faucet, counters and oven looked as though they had not been cleaned before the season started. Some of the dishes taken out of the cabinet were dirty and so I cleaned everything before using it.

The front door was very difficult to open and my husband had to use his shoulder to push it open to get in after unlocking it – each time we came home was painful.  When you come into the house with the key you walk through the full bedroom – the windows and French doors that lead to this room do not have curtains and there is no feeling of privacy.

Going into the bathroom with toiletries caused the challenge to find a place to put them. The bathtubs were unclean and the jets in the master bathtub showed signs of cleaning neglect. The queen bedroom sheets were very old and very stained and the towels were old and faded.

After we arrived home on July 4, I let Marc know that we left and why. Marc expressed disappointment that we did not allow him the opportunity to fix the issues and I explained that the issues were too big for a quick fix. I am VERY disappointed that Marc never said he was sorry for the poor condition of the house or offered to give us a partial refund even after I showed him photos of the issues. I am writing this review so that others have the opportunity to make their own personal decision about renting and also to push Marc into making the house the vacation rental it has the potential to become.

Wonderful Trip

  • 4 of 5

Our family of 7, ranging in age from 4 to 60+, spent a wonderful week at this home. The house is laid out in a way that gives everyone privacy, but also plenty of opportunities to gather. We had everything we needed. The setting is so peaceful and secluded, but also conveniently located. Marc, the homeowner was always available and considered everything. When there was an issue with the fridge, it was taken care of the same day. He left out sand toys for our children, two doggie bowls for our weimaraner, and a bottle of sancerre for the grownups. The morning we left, the 60+ member of our family looked out at the lovely view and said "This was a wonderful vacation."

Over priced with water view, but no "beach"

  • 3 of 5

Our family rented this property in peak summer season and expected to swim everyday outside the house, according to the property description. It is described as a "beachfront retreat", which it is not. There are lovely views of the water (an inlet), but the "beach" is non-swimmable with rocks, weeds, murky water and NO dock. I feel as though the owner misrepresented the beach description and I told him so at check out. I also wrote a private email (to avoid writing this public comment) requesting some compensation, to which he disappointingly never responded.

We appreciate the fact that the owners allow pets and assumed that we would pay a bit of a premium for that, but the screens on the front porch were torn and our dog got loose several times. We had to put furniture up against the screens so that he could not escape and mosquitoes did not eat us alive.

I think that the price for this rental does not meet the standard of luxury that our family is used to, having used Homeway and VRBO for many years at various other properties. I would not rent this property again and for this price, I would not recommend it to others.

Owner's Response: We really do wish that "Joe" said something on checkout (as we meet every guest on arrival and departure). We also would have appreciated a "private note" which we have yet to receive. This property is a beachfront cottage which is clearly indicated throughout the profile and in the pictures. There is a reason that VRBO has a separate category for Ocean Front (with limited availability and prices to match from $1,000 to $15,000 per night). An ocean beach is very different and would probably have been what these guests really wanted. The house has 900 feet of natural beach and in this natural setting there is beach grass, rocks as well as sand. When dogs stay at the house, they frequently damage the screened porch by running through the screens. We are always happy to address this during the stay, all it takes is a text. On arrival we make it very clear that we want to know immediately about any issue impacting the visit. The accuracy of the pictures and quality of service are not in question. Because of the almost constant breeze, a mosquito issue is extremely unusual. This is the first such mention in 2 years. The house and natural surroundings are beautiful and our attention to guests during their stay is unmatched as we have a sincere and caring approach to sharing this property. We strongly urge ongoing communication with the host and recommend asking questions and for things you need at the time you need them. If looking for a pristine white beach on the ocean and hotel level service, this is something easily found at a much higher price point.

Great location, spacious and well equipped house. Cleanliness and order could be better.

  • 4 of 5

Overall, we spent a great 5 day long weekend at the house. We were a family of 5 adults and the 3 bedrooms, living and family room and kitchen were completely adequate. The listing was accurate. The location is superb, both the gated estate as well as the location near the water front. There are lots of windows and the sunset and sunrise are wonderful. The owner was extremely friendly, helpful and responsive.

Our only concern was the cleanliness and the order in the house, which was not good. The bathrooms were not clean enough. The (otherwise lovely) closed porch ( that has a large dining table) was not cleaned at all. The owner sent someone to clean it after we brought this to his attention.

The drawers and cupboards in the kitchen were full with all kinds of old items that were apparently left by previous occupants. The storage room was also full with old and apparently useless items. The spa outside was not clean at all.

The maintenance was reasonable, but not more than that. For instance, the bath tub in one of the bathrooms was disintegrating under the rubber mat.

Suggest some serious cleaning and throwing out of old items and a bit of fixing and this will be a superb place.

Owner's Response: As we check-in every guest, we are there to address any possible issue on the spot. Once we received the complaint, we called our cleaner and had her come in within 20 minutes and clean as directed until our guests were satisfied. This house is a beach house. The screened porch and terrace are outside spaces. When it rains as it did on check-in day, sand gets kicked up as one would naturally expect. In this particular case, we allowed for a check-in a full 3 1/2 hours early and certainly could not address these areas until after the rain stopped. It is true that the kitchen and storage areas have many things put away that may or may not be used for cooking as our guests desire. The counters are spotless and clear of unnecessary items matching the pictures exactly. The vast majority of our guests have been happy to see a variety of things in the kitchen cabinets for them to use. We could certainly take a look at the garage/laundry where there are extra materials that could be better organized. In the bathroom, a guest added a suction matt which pulled up the glaze on the tub. The re-glaze is pending but outside of this, the bathrooms are sanitized just before guest arrival and spotless clean white. We have an excellent track record with this being our only negative review. We realize that we cannot make everyone completely happy. We felt we did everything we could under the circumstance to address the concern immediately.

Magnificent

  • 5 of 5

This cottage is an amazing place to be at! The comfort, the setting, all of the amenities, the beauty of Marc's property could not be overrated. The cottage has this mixture of shick and rustic which creates a feeling of luxury without the presence. We could not have asked for a better or kinder host. Marc went above and beyond in making our stay memorable, relaxing, and rejuvenating!
