About the property

3 Bedroom, 2 Full Baths, 1500 SqFt Very Private Wooded Setting On the River

NOTE>>>>>>NOTE: The site has eliminated all ways for you as a guest to call us and when you send us a request, they have eliminated all ways for us as owners to communicate with you as well, UNTIL, we accept your reservation. So, what does this mean to you??? It means that as home owners, we want to make sure that whomever is renting our place is the right fit for our property. The ONLY way for us to do this is via a phone conversation. The ONLY way for us to get your phone number is for us to accept your reservation. HOWEVER, just because we "accept" your reservation does not necessarily mean that we will truly "ACCEPT" your reservation. We will make that final determination after we make phone contact with you. If all seems legit per our phone conversation, then the reservation stays accepted and end of story. IF, on the slim chance, that we determine that the fit isn't right for our property, we will go back in and CANCEL the reservation immediately and you will be refunded whatever was placed on your credit card through VRBO/HomeAway. We apologize for this note and having to explain ourselves like this. Unfortunately, the site has forced us to protect our investment in this manner. We are hoping they open their eyes and make it better for both owners and guests!

Also, please note that we have a pet fee if you are bringing a dog. We ask that you check that box on your reservation request because it saves a lot of hassle to correct it when we find out a dog is being brought with you.

Rainbow Reel was constructed (in 2013) 1,500 sq ft home that sits directly along the banks of the beautiful White River in Newaygo County.

The home offers three bedrooms, two full baths, main floor laundry, a large great room/kitchen/dining area combined with a 21 ft high ceiling. The interior of the home is decked out with Up North cabin décor throughout and the entire great room, loft and upstairs bedroom has knotty pine. The main floor has a beautiful dark walnut stained, rustic circle sawn oak flooring. The inside of the home has a very rustic feeling atmosphere yet, has all the modern conveniences of a modern home.

The 3 bedrooms are as follows:

The Bear Den has a queen cedar log bed.

The Mossy Moose has a full over full cedar log bunk bed.

The Loons Nest has a built in queen bed and also a built in twin bed.

The home will comfortably sleep nine individuals when doubled up in beds (except the twin)

Dogs (Max. 2) welcome for extra pet fee. Short, medium length hair dogs preferably. Long haired dogs such as German Shepherds, Huskies, Mastiff, etc. might not be allowed without prior permission due to large amounts of shedding and family allergy! Ask us about your pet.

If you are looking for a place where you can TRULY RELAX, unwind, recharge and accomplish all of this with the utmost privacy, then this is the place for you.

HOWEVER, if you are looking for a place to party, then PLEASE LOOK ELSEWHERE!

The home sits on 3.5 wooded acres with 229' of direct river frontage. You would be hard pressed to find a more private and relaxing vacation home. It is like you have the whole river to yourself.

The river is great for kayaking, canoeing and tubing. It is also very well known for its trout fishing. (Tubes and Kayaks NOT provided. Please bring your own items for floating down the river)

The home has a large deck and a fire pit that overlooks the river. We will even provide the firewood.

All bedding (for the 5 beds) is provided, dinner service (plates, silverware, etc) provided as well. Pots, pans, blender, crock pot, electric griddle, coffee maker and various other small kitchen appliances provided. The only things that you have to provide would be your own food and drinks.

Outside we have provided a 6 place patio table/chair set under the pergola on the deck (early spring through late fall). We also have a beautiful 3 season porch with a 5 piece, cushioned conversation set which is absolutely amazing to relax and watch nature.

On the deck you will also find 2 lounge chairs for your enjoyment (early spring through late fall).

There is a 6 ft picnic table, a 2 person wooden swing and various other chairs for sitting around the camp fire at the rivers edge.

We have also provided a GAS GRILL.

There is NOT any WiFi or Internet Service provided at the cabin! There is excellent 4G LTE service at the cabin if you choose to use your smartphones or tablets.

Holidays require a 3 night minimum.

The cabin remains available on a first come first serve basis until we have a paid reservation deposit.

Cabin availability changes quickly. Certain times of the year, our cabin books months in advance and our best advice is that if we have the dates open that you are looking for, we urge you to reserve the dates quickly.

Our cabin sleeps 9 and is designed for 9 or less, (5 beds, so read above what beds we have) but we are willing to allow up to 12 individuals to occupy the cabin but we prefer not to have more than 9 adults.

Our cabin is strictly meant for relaxation, family gatherings, family vacations or a romantic get-a-way. Again, this is NOT a party cabin and we don't rent out for large family reunions...meant for small family gatherings. Every situation is looked at individually so please contact us with your request and we will do our very best to accommodate your needs.

NON-SMOKING Cabin.

Peak Summer weeks are in VERY high demand and are from Saturday-Saturday only (unless otherwise specified) and require a 7 Night Stay! Shorter stays are granted, however, the same rate will apply (again, this only applies to PEAK SUMMER WEEKS)

We welcome your inquiry. Contacting us allows us to give you the best service and answer any and all your questions with ease but the new site restrictions have taken off our phone number unless you do a search for Rainbow Reel online.

Today is the day to reserve your spot at one of Michigan's best kept cabins. Thank you and happy vacationing!

About Rod and Beth Pentoney

Hardworking family of 4. We love being able to share our property with other responsible families who will treat our cabin with the care that we would.

Rod and Beth Pentoney purchased this cabin in 2013

Why Rod and Beth Pentoney chose White Cloud

We have always wanted a vacation home with that 'Up North' cabin décor/feeling on a river and after many years of searching for a nice buildable piece of property to build on, we finally found this property.

We then spent most of 2013 building the home/cabin ourselves and we made it a point to make sure that it meet all of our 'Up North' feelings and a place that was completely different than a standard home. We know that our cabin will leave you as breathless as it does us.

What makes this cabin unique

From the outside, the home looks like any modern chalet (with some unique siding features), but upon entering the cabin, you will find yourself in a rustic, yet modern, 'Up North' cabin feeling.

As soon as you walk in the front door, you will step into the Great Room which is decked out with knotty pine walls and ceiling and a rustic circle sawn oak hardwood flooring stained with a dark walnut stain.

You will also notice a full sized 1930's cedar strip canoe hanging in the rafters. The canoe is also wired with lighting for those romantic evenings. The great room has a really neat trout fishing theme to it with some really neat lantern style lights in the dining and kitchen areas.

The bedrooms are themed to add a unique, yet fun touch to the property. We have, The Bear Den, The Mossy Moose and The Loons Nest for bedrooms. The Loons Nest bedroom has some very cool and unique built in bed options.

Another unique feature is the built on wall shelf over the slider door and windows that face the river. We have several cabin related decorative items on this shelf.

Absolutely wonderful!

  • 5 of 5

A big thank you to Rod and Beth for lending their cabin to us over the Christmas Holiday. It was everything we wanted and more! A perfect amount of room for 9, a very peaceful setting, ample amount of supplies, and most importantly, snow! The last one isn't guaranteed to be supplied by the owners. :)

Again, thank you to Beth and Rod for this awesome experience!

Everything we expected and more!!!!

  • 5 of 5

Rod and Beth are wonderful to deal with! They have literally covered every single little detail. They made everything about our weekend stay easy and enjoyable. Their home is beautiful, cozy, and relaxing. We didn't want to leave! It is clear that a lot of love went into building and decorating their home and we are so glad that we got the opportunity to enjoy it for the weekend. We have rented cabins in Tennessee numerous times and this was by far our best rental experience. Thanks again Rod and Beth! We hope to be back real soon!

Definitely a place to relax and unwind.

  • 5 of 5

This was our 2nd visit to the Rainbow Reel property and we LOVED it like the last time. The location is great. The outdoor setting is amazing.

Sitting around the fire while over looking the river below, playing in the river, and card games at the outdoor table are a few of the things we enjoy. The inside is decorated beautifully and is very clean (& well maintained). This is definitely a place we love and will plan to return to again.

The owners have been wonderful with all communication.

During both visits we took time out to visit Lewis Farm and Petting Zoo. Our family had fun and enjoyed some delicious fresh desserts there. Other than Lewis Farms we just love to stay at the cabin.

Beyond Expectations

  • 5 of 5

We were very pleased with our stay. There were 7 of us, all adults, my husband and our grown children and their spouses. Plenty of places to gather together and also to relax alone and read a great book. The cabin has everything you need, beds and furniture are clean and comfortable. Washer and dryer, dishwasher, stove and ref. are all clean and work properly. It is obvious that the owners care about their property and their guest. We have been renting vacation getaways for nearly 20 years and we have been happy at many locations but this is by far the best in every area. This cabin goes above and beyond in so many ways. Of course nothing is perfect so I will share the one thing I wish was different. The cabin has a small electric hot water heater. I was surprised because to me everything else goes beyond the needs of the normal vacationer but for a cabin that sleeps from 9 - 12 people I would expect a larger and maybe even gas hot water heater. We had a schedule for showers that worked most days except the one where we spent the entire day on the water and when we returned all 4 girls wanted the shower and it took a couple of hours to make that happen. We will definitely stay again and most certainly recommend this cabin to all those reading this and all our friends who also rent vacation homes. In my experience you will have a hard time finding a cabin this nice or owners more caring.

Owner's Response: Thank you so much for all the kind comments about our home! We truly appreciate every one of them. We are so sorry that you experienced less than stellar hot water expectations. Unfortunately, due to only being able to have a fully conditioned crawl space vs. a standard full basement, (due to high water tables on the land) we were limited to the size of hot water heater we could install. We went with the largest that would fit our space. We are so happy that even despite this small issue, you still have a desire to return! We look forward to serving you and your family again!! Rod & Beth

We highly recommend a day trip to Silver Lake Sand Dunes, ride the Dunes with Mac Woods Dune Rides, rent a wave runner and enjoy some of the biggest dunes in the Mid-West, over 2000 acres of dunes and the only dunes east of the Mississippi where you can ride on the dunes. There is horseback riding, the Lake Michigan Shoreline, Orchard Tours all within about 30-35 minutes to the west of the cabin. Michigan's Adventure Amusement/Water Park is just a short drive away. We are also centrally located in beautiful Newaygo County, MI for many water related activities, hiking and fall colors.

4 miles east of the cabin is The North Country National Scenic Trail. This is a famous trail system for hiking and some biking that extends over 4,600 miles starting in North Dakota and ending in New York. Be sure to bring your cross country ski's or snow shoes and enjoy a Michigan winter.
