Feel free to use the canoes or kayaks or rent the 22' Bennington pontoon to enjoy the lake with your family. We stayed at Ollie's Landing for the 1st time last week. My husband, myself and our 2 small children (ages 2 and 3) had a wonderful week! The cabin is beautifully done with an open floor plan. The kids could easily play while we prepared meals, did dishes, etc. The house is stocked with everything you need. I'll list the items as it might be helpful for future travelers: Tide pod detergent, dryer sheets, tin foil, saran wrap, ziplock bags of many sizes, Keurig with pods, trash bags, paper towels, toilet paper, salt and pepper, and so much more! The dishwasher was quiet and helpful! We loved that there was wi-fi along with a wireless blue tooth speaker. We brought that out on the deck many afternoons and evenings for music. There is a nice washer/dryer set that we used daily! The garage is fully stocked as well! It had life jackets of many different sizes, lawn games, floaties and pool noodles, etc.
Enough about the inside, the outside was just as nice. The deck has a large table that seats at least 6 and the grill comes with a full propane tank. The view is fantastic! The deck gets shade almost all day except lunchtime. There is a large grassy area to run around along with a great fire pit area. It was too hot for a fire on the days we were there. The beach has small rocks and sea shells. We did get a few leeches. We also heard the lake was known for swimmer's itch. However, we showered after each swim and didn't have any problems. The dock is great with a ladder on each side. I highly recommend taking the pontoon out. We rented it on our last day and I wish we would have done it another day as well. The kayaks were great!
It was our first time to the town of Litchfield. It is a cute little town. It was very windy one morning so we wanted to take the kids to a park. There are several great parks nearby! Within a mile, we found 3 parks! I ran around the lake and it was a gorgeous run (exactly 4 miles). Many people recommended Peter's, which is nearby. We did not like it very much and it didn't seem kid friendly. We heard great things about Sanora's (Mexican food) and wish we would have tried it. We also went to Jimmy's pizza where we met friends who also have kids. It was good (3 out of 5 stars) with fast service and pizza. There is also a grocery store (Econofoods) and Walmart in town. There's also a golf course right across the street. It was a great location (just an hour and 15 minutes away from our house in the Twin Cities).
We had a wonderful 2nd visit to Ollie's Landing!! First visit was Aug, 2015 - second visit was July, 2016. The property was just as nice the second time around. It has been very well-kept and we appreciated Dave's attentiveness and flexibility while we were there. We are 5 ladies who reconnect once a year. We found that we had everything we could want in a lovely lakeside home. All modern appliances and conveniences, and we got to take the pontoon boat out for a picture-perfect day on Lake Ripley. Really terrific to be off the grid for a few days, but to still have all the modern conveniences available. Thanks so much, Dave, for keeping the place up and for making our stay just great! Anyone considering Ollie's Landing will need to reserve early, as it will book up fast.
We just returned from Ollie's Landing and had such a relaxing, fun time. The owner is very responsive and a joy to work with. The house is very clean and updated and stocked with everything you could need. The layout is much more open than the pictures make it look. The beds and pillows are extremely comfortable. Even the pullout couch in the living room had an air mattress pillowtop! The restaurant down the street (Peter's on Lake Ripley) has amazing ribs and popovers. We enjoyed sitting on the deck with a cocktail looking at the water, cooking in the amazing kitchen, board games at the dining room table and just relaxing! I will definitely return with my husband and two young kids and would recommend this property to anyone looking for a relaxing getaway that's not far at all from the Twin Cities. Thanks, Dave!
Great owners, Great Lake house, Great place to have a small getaway. I definitely recommend renting this place. I will come back for sure during the summer.
Stayed here on my own for 4 nights at the end of the year because I needed some serious peace and quiet to finish a big project with a looming deadline. Ollie's Landing was absolutely perfect for me. I agree with all of the comments in the previous reviews--the house is beautiful (even nicer than the photos), exceedingly comfortable (very thoughtfully/lovingly furnished), and in an ideal location (a short drive from Minneapolis, right on the lake). The owner was very congenial and responsive, and--an unexpected bonus for me (a woman traveling alone)--he and his wife live right across the street. The home felt completely private, but not at all remote. I've stayed at VRBOs around the country and this is one of the very best in terms of comfort, location, and value. I will definitely be back--next time I hope in the summer, for fun, and with my husband!
