Our stay here was more than perfect. While we were aware of all the amenities provided, we were still surprised and impressed by the quality. Debbie King, the owner, was very easy to communicate with and very helpful. The deck was gorgeous, and the walk down to the lake was very short. This is definitely someplace we would love to visit again! We could not have asked for a better stay!
Overall our stay was great. The inside of the cabin is spacious and updated. We have two small children so the lack of a bath tub (we had no idea and just assumed a full bathroom meant one with a bath tub) made things a bit challenging- if you have small children I wouldn't totally recommend this cabin (especially since it is a good hour from any type of activities or entertainment). The big couch was plenty comfy and easy to move around to create new playing areas and to watch the TV (our oldest absolutely loved Toy Story 3!) The new kitchen and appliances were super nice- we made breakfast every day which I would recommend since you really have to drive at least 30 to get anywhere to eat. If you do drive into town we highly recommend the Farmer's Feed Mill Restaurant- we ate there every night for dinner and not only was the home cooking amazing but the people there are incredibly nice. The beds were a bit firm for us but that is a preference thing- also pretty sure they are both Fulls, they look the exact same size and neither one is as big as a Queen. We decided to leave a day earlier than we rented because with two little ones there just really wasn't any more to explore than we already had and driving an hour every time got to be a bit much but that is our own poor planning. Would highly recommend this for couples and those with older kids. It is the right place to go for if you are looking to truly be out and secluded from any towns!
We spent several nights at this lovely cottage by the lake and enjoyed our stay very much. The quiet property has many new updates, a fully equipped kitchen, and a huge deck to enjoy the surrounding woods. We spent hours each day in the lake and were grateful to have the kayak at the property. The warm Kentucky climate keeps the lake hidden from view behind heavy foliage in the summer, but the property dock is a short walk away.
The cabin was exquisite!!! Debbie King, owner was very accommodating, we spoke a couple of times. I was worried about finding it in unfamiliar area, but the directions were on target.
PRO: There were 4 adults and we didn't want to be separated in individual hotel rooms. This cabin was the perfect answer to that. Every thing we needed was there, right down to shampoo and shower gel. The kitchen was well stocked; and coffee in the early morning on the porch was awesome. The fireplace would be phenominal in the winter. We were close enough to the water to walk down to the shore, not a swimming beach though.
CON: We never did get the TV to work.(would not take the code and shut off after 30 minutes). No Plug in in the bathroom made curling my hair a challenge. These were very minor and did not lessen the great travel experience.
We would definitely do it again. And I will recommend Debbie's cabin for others in the future.
We had a great stay. The house was very nice on the inside and outside. The stair case to the lake is beautiful little trip to the lake. We had a great stay and plan on going back again soon.
Our experience with this cabin was very positive. We stayed for 10 days in July, 2016 and unfortunately there was a heat wave of 100 degrees for a few days. Not to worry, though, as the air conditioning worked perfectly. The cabin's octagonal shape is unusual and kind of cool and our son loved it. The cabin has a deck that goes about half way around it with an overhang that keeps you out of the sun and rain - we sat on it together during a couple of rain showers and enjoyed ourselves. The fire pit is at the bottom of the stairs from the deck and close to the cabin. The cabin next door is owned by the same people and it has a large set of wooden stairs that lead down to the dock on Nolin Lake. It is a very short walk to the stairs. We brought 2 kayaks and they have one at the dock that can be used by guests also. The dock area allows for easy kayak access into the Lake and also for nice swimming around the dock. The lake was pretty warm (maybe 84 degrees or so) when we were there. The cabin is in a gated development that is pretty wooded. The other cabins are not too close to one another so there is a feeling of privacy. Lake traffic does pick up on Friday through the weekend with very little during the rest of the week which was the bulk of our time there.
The interior decorating was nice, the beds were comfortable, but the sectional couch in the living room was pretty uncomfortable and the chairs at the island in the kitchen were too tall for it and wouldn't allow us to sit there to eat. We usually make almost all of our morning and evening meals at the cabin and a downside that we found was a sparse offering of cooking utensils, spoons, etc. and most of the silverware was small in size for some reason. It lacked a cutting board and even a can opener. We have gotten used to well-stocked cabins on our vacations and we stopped bringing some of the things that we needed. Luckily, there is a Super Wal-Mart about 20 minutes away. Also annoying was the total lack of outlets in the bathroom. The bathroom does have a double sink/vanity though. All of the appliances were pretty new and worked well.
Other than these few minor gripes which can be easily remedied, we loved it here and wish we could have stayed longer. It was very quiet and relaxing. I would recommend this cabin and the owners. They were both very nice.
Mammoth Cave is about 35 min away and I would recommend the Corvette Plant/Museum and the Patton Museum at Ft. Knox for day trips.
Close to Mammoth Cave National Park. Cabin located in gated subdivision. Closest larger city is Bowling Green, Kentucky, approximately 40 miles away
